The Growing up trip report June 10th-13th, completed

Another great day - gosh your DD looks sooo like you!

I'm guessing you were in Cali Grill for breakfast? We ate in there one morning, really liked it - very nicely decorated etc. I keep thinking about a meal in there for DH and I on our next trip but I'm not sure....

I'd love to do the guided tour and I'm sure DH would too but I just think it's too much for the girls at their age. One day! The pins are lovely she gave you and lucky you getting a preferred spot for MoP!

More please :coffee:.

actually, both times we've had breakfast at the DLH as non-guests we've been in that same part of the restaurant. I had previously thought it was Inventions, but its not is it - its California Grill (Inventions is to the left as you enter, Cali Grill is to the right? Its easy seeing I've never actually eaten any other meal at the DLH, isn't it :rotfl:)?

Nikki have you got a new ticker???? And have you grilled DS1 yet?

new ticker.... me???? :rolleyes1 lol yes... a sneaky trip which, u can imagine doing a day trip from where we r, is gonna b long and without sleep :rotfl: but worth it!!

spoke to ds1 and we ended up arguing, so it might not b hugely detailed re rides, but ill do my best..... still need to upload rest of pics to facebook!!

lovin ur report and interesting on the tour :) one day.... def be interesting!!

Day 3 Tuesday VIP day continued a bit more .......

The preferred viewing spot we got for the parade is brilliant :thumbsup2! Its right next to the castle stage, opposite the benches, and its where the Princesses used to arrive/depart from the stage when they used that venue for the Princess meet n greet in the past. A small area with 2 benches in, there was only us and one other family of 3 in the area, with a lovely CM who was expecting us. Definitely a VIP experience :goodvibes. We had a few minutes before the parade was due to begin, so we moved one of the benches next to the other family, had a chat, and my DD actually never moved from the bench for the whole parade, she took her photos from there :rotfl:!

After the parade had passed us, we walked up into the Castle from our lovely viewing area :), into the crystal shop, checked out the Dragon from that level too (she was in fine form :goodvibes) and went to visit one of our favourite shops -

Then we used our VIP fastpass on Peter Pan :).

Day 3 Tuesday VIP day last bit of the day I promise .....

After Peter Pan, we realised that, although the Meet Mickey venue in Fantasyland was on the park programme as closing at 7pm each evening, it was actually still open (at nearly 8pm) with only a 15-minute line. This is simply beautifully done, I got very camera-happy in here :rotfl2:. This is the waiting line and corridor -

We had great fun with Mickey in here, it was unhurried (I asked the official photographer to please use my camera, and he took about half a dozen shots for me) and Mickey spent ages with me showing off his dressing room lol. Best character interaction we've experienced in years I'd say, excellent stuff!

It was still only about 8.10pm when we came out, and the venue was still showing that it was open, so I've actually no idea what time it closes?

We grabbed something to eat (first time we've felt hungry since mega-breakfast/brunch at the DLH this morning) and again, no restaurants around us in Fantasyland open, so Hyperion again (at least its reliable!). We saw a new-for-us cartoon there this time, the little blue birds one? I had a good old chuckle at that one while we were eating. Buzz obviously was next, then I went off to City Hall. Our experience at the Cowboy Cookout tea party was still slightly niggling me, so I asked for a complaint form, and was given one to complete after telling the CM at City Hall what had happened. While I was filling out the form, she was phoning and having chats out the back, after asking DD who her favourite character was. Then, when I'd filled in the form, she asked us if we could come back to City Hall tomorrow at 1.15pm, so they could arrange a surprise for DD to make up a little for the experience we'd had today. We said yes, that would be lovely, we were very grateful, but hoped that my complaint would reach the relevant department. So we left it at that, and I decided after complaining that I'd just put it down to experience and just not do that particular meal again.

BTM followed, that always cheers us up and has us laughing and screaming, then POTC (where the CM asked our boat if we'd like to go again - well of course we would!) and time for BTM again before Dreams (crying again) for the last time of the trip. This time a lot of the guests stayed seated on the ground in the Plaza as it was a dry fairly warm evening. At one point just as the Dreams show was about to start, I looked around and saw hundreds of little camera/video screens, all trained on the castle, with everyone waiting with baited breath. It was a lovely moment, as if everyone knew they were about to see something spectacular.

A little choked up and teary-eyed, it was out of the park then and back to the hotel for our last night's sleep.

ooooo come on - tell us the treat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

interesting bout meet mickey - might be one to try n get the others in in september after the parade.... i heard stories of the pavillion being open still after the parade.....

lovin the pics - thats a good full vip fast pass day :goodvibes

Wow, what a great day, except for Cowboy Cookout ;)

I'd love to do the guided tour too, but Lewis isn't keen yet. Maybe Abbey and I will sneak off and do it ourselves next time. Good to know about the parade spot if you've done the tour - is that an actual perk of doing the tour or something extra?

BTM always cheers me up too, and I love it when pirates is quiet enough for another go :thumbsup2

Your dd is certainly growing up fast, I too think she looks very like you :)

Dreams with everyone sitting down should be mandatory :lmao: Sounds fantastic

Look forward to hearing what the surprise is tomorrow......

Loving your trip report.:yay:

It sounds as though you had a fantastic time.

The tour sounds really good fun and very interesting. Was there lots of walking. Want to do this but DH is not able to walk fast. Would that be a problem?

Do you have to book it before you go?

Looking forward to hearing what the surprise was!

Our tour guide didn't mention it, but I'd seen on another forum that guests had been offered the preferred viewing area after taking the tour, so when I asked our guide she said of course, no problem at all :).

Dreams with everyone sitting down was superb, it really is the answer to any restricted view issues, especially for children.

The tour was excellent, fascinating stuff. It does involve walking around all of the park for 2 hours, but our guide told us that if we needed a rest just say, if we needed to slow down, just say etc. You don't have to book it before you arrive at DLP, but I'd advise booking it at City Hall as soon as you arrive, because the first person to book it gets the choice of dates and times (1pm or 3pm) and the language the tour will be conducted in.

Hopefully I'll get our last day TR posted, and maybe the tour one too, over the weekend :).

Forgot to mention a big thank you for posting so many photos of Mickey's meet :thumbsup2

I was so disappointed that this wasn't open when we went as I really wanted to see it. Your photos really cheered me up :goodvibes

excuse for another trip??? ;)

Another great day. You really did get a wonderful view of the parade from that VIP spot. :goodvibes I would love to do the tour - I think Robyn would quite like it too as she really enjoys looking through the anniversary book. I think I might need to wait until the other two are a bit older though.

Elaine - yes, Cali Grill it to the right, Inventions to the left. Cali is more flowery whereas Inventions has lots of models etc of inventions hanging off the ceiling :).

Wow, your view of the parade was amazing - and your DD taking her fab pics again. She is very good you know. I love her photo of Mickey and that one of Tigger is just a classic! :wizard:

Sorry to hear about the CBCO tea party - I've heard quite a few bad reviews of the tea party now. I must admit I wasn't too pleased to wait so long to pay for the food but because it was quite quiet (eventhough it took so long?) I could see a fair bit of what was happening around, but not my girls as they were further back! As you say, it's a good job DH was there. I did quite like it as a character meal but can understand why people don't. I do remember I had to go and ask Daisy if she didn't mind popping to see my girls and then she came around 3 times :lmao:. The CMs with the characters were rude and very inattentive - the characters were just left to get on with it. Fortunately, most of the children were quite well behaved apart from one little boy who refused to leave our table eventhough DH was trying to take a photo of the girls with one of the characters :confused3.

More please.... oooh can't wait to hear about your DD's treat :hourglass.....

Day 4 Wednesday, our last day :sad1:

We were up, packed, checked out and on the shuttle bus to the parks by 9.15 this morning. Took our cases to the train station lockers for the day (5.50 euros) and then headed off to the Studios. I got a large coffee from a stall near the En Coulisse restaurant in Studio One as we entered because we'd missed breakfast and I needed to wake up ;).

We wanted to ride Tram Tours first (DD's choice) but it wasn't opening until after 10am, the nice but vague CMs at the ride told us (ie they didn't know exactly when it was going to open, just "later" :confused3). So we rode Slinky, then Cars, and when we'd done that, they were just letting the first guests onto the Tram Tour, so we were in the first tram of the day. My DD didn't remember any of this, as it had been at least 4 years ago we last did this ride. We both quite enjoyed it, a few of the props have been replaced, like now the Gargoyles from Hunchback of Notre Dame are there on the tour :goodvibes, RC racer is there, and although I miss the costume department drive-through bit, its not bad seeing where the new Ratatouille area will be as you drive past.

We left the Studios at around 11.15 and headed to the main park, where we picked up a FP for BTM at 2pm, and rode POTC.

Although I like most of the gold theming and bunting thats around the entrance and Main St area, I'm not keen on these at all -

136.jpg

they look like they're wrapped in rubbishy plastic bags somehow :rotfl:.

We decided to have a proper lunch today, as we wouldn't have a chance to have much for dinner, so we went to the Plaza Gardens at just after 12noon. Oh my goodness everything was delicious and there was so much choice (including escargot ;)). Real food!!!! I had a little selection of starters, then a bowl of lovely vegetable soup with croutons, then my main was grilled beefsteak with onions and peppers, green beans and dauphinoise potatoes (I love those ). I couldn't force any more food down me after all that, but there was loads of fresh fruit so I snaffled a banana and a little stalk of grapes for later.

We were in the Plaza Gardens for an hour, so when we left it was time to go to City Hall for DD's surprise. When we got there it was very busy, but when we got to the desk I explained what had been discussed the evening before with their colleague, the CM there went off to make her phone call, then asked us to accompany her up to the hub opposite the castle. We were just in front of the character train as it came up Main St, and when it stopped and the characters got off, the CM with Donald called to my DD by name, cleared the way for her, and she got a big fuss made of her by the Duck Dude himself -

323.jpg

322.jpg

324.jpg

She was over the moon, especially since seconds later every character was being completely mobbed :scared1:.

We left the madness of the character train, and did the Fort Comstock walkthrough for the first time, then BTM with our FP from earlier (picking one up for later too).

223.jpg

Then we did Phantom Manor again, this time (as all over the park today) it was busier than we'd experienced before, and when we went into the stretching room the place was pretty packed, I felt quite claustrophobic (and crowds normally don't bother me at all). We had time for Tarzan again, and 3rd time lucky, no columns blocking my view at all today :woohoo:!

POTC next, then explored Skull Rock and the floating bridge, then it was BTM time but the FP line was long and we didn't really have a lot of time left, so we window-shopped our way down Main St and went into the Market House deli to eavesdrop on the telephones for a while ;). I took a final pic from the bottom of Main St -

321.jpg

then it was time to go.

Now - I have a confession to make.

Before we went on this trip, I was seriously gearing myself up for it possibly being our last together for quite a long time :sad1:. My DD is growing up, she starts secondary school in September, and if she would rather not come again, if she would rather try going elsewhere on holiday, I knew I would have to accept that. So I spent a lot of time this trip getting quite teary-eyed at the possibility that we wouldn't be doing this together anymore. I asked her, on our last day (while at lunch) if she thought she'd want to come to DLP again soon. Her face lit up and she gave a resounding YES :dance3:. Since we've been home, she's been telling her friends about her VIP day, meeting Donald etc. So I guess DLP is still working its Magic :wizard:.

Final thoughts

So we did loads of different stuff this trip, no character meals to speak of (I really can't count the character tea party ;)), no character hunting, no spending loads of time in Fantasyland or the Studios.
We took breaks in the middle of the day, it was the wettest trip weather-wise we've ever had in 11 trips so far, and it was more of a chore than ever finding anything decent to eat in the parks, (although I wish I'd remembered about the express lunch menus in Walts and Blue Lagoon).

Apart from Tuesday our VIP day, we really didn't plan anything except seeing Dreams every night, and my DD took the lead in the decision-making day to day a lot more than on previous trips.

It all worked out really well, Dreams and the park tour were real highlights , and both are definitely on the schedule for our next trip (hopefully in October).

You don't know how happy I am to be able to say we're both looking forward to another trip (well, you probably do, you're DIS'ers after all :rotfl2::rotfl2:).

Awwww, fantastic :goodvibes

Great for your lovely dd to get special attention from Donald. DLP CM's get such a bad press from WDW lovers, but we've been hearing more and more recently how the CM's really are doing all they can to spread the magic :wizard: Well done DLP :thumbsup2

Really enjoyed reading your trip report and hope you'll have another ticker soon....as if any of us are going to disagree with you :rotfl:

I really enjoyed reading that. :) Lots of lovely photos :thumbsup2 and such wonderful news that you'll be going back very soon. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

We did both guided tours a few years ago. Although we all enjoyed the Disneyland park one, we loved the Studios tour even more so I'd definitely recommend it for next time. :goodvibes

Hear hear ::yes::

Thank you for sharing a great trip report.

So pleased that you had a great time and that you had such a magical experience. DLP is a special place in my opinion and you and your daughter deserved to have a special time. I know this might be the last trip I have with my DD.

Hope you have a new ticker again soon.
