What are some of the best non-preferred rooms to ask for, at POP? I was thinking a non-preferred one in the '70s building.

70's would be a good choice in my opinion. I haven't stayed there yet but those who have recommend the 70's buildings because of the proximity of the non-preferred rooms to Classic Hall.

My preference though for non-preferred is building 1 in the 50s, because I still find it convenient to Classic Hall plus the Bowling Pool.

Thanks jcarwash! I think I'll request '70s for sure now... especially since Mr/Mrs Potato Head are close by.

Is the 60's building all preferred though? I also thought the 60s building would be noisier because of the main pool...

Not all of the 60's is preferred now - they changed preferred locations a couple of yrs ago to include 50's and 70's rooms close to the Lobby/food court/bus.

All of the 60's pool side rooms are preferred at POP, and some on the opposite side of building 5. But that leaves a lot of 60's rooms where you'd not likely hear the noise from the pool. Some face the lake and are quite peaceful - especially 4th floor rooms. If you look at this link of 60's bldgs 4 & 5 you will see the non-preferred room locations. :thumbsup2

Nice... thanks!

I'm sure I will sound very wishy-washy on the phone... "I'd like the 70s... no, building 1... no, a non-preferred in the 60s... really, anything is good!" lol. :rotfl:

Thank you everyone... this thread is so helpful! The other day my DH had a WDW question and I automatically went to disboards. He said, "shouldn't you be looking at the offical site?" and I said, "Oh, they won't post it or even know. Disboards people will!" .... sure enough... the answer was here.
:cheer2:

In exactly 3 Weeks today, I'll be checking into POP!!!

We'll only be there for 2 days before we head over to Vistana, but, SOOO excited for those 2 days.

Have a good time at POP it's a great resort, The best my value resort in WDW.

Our last trip we stayed in building 4 lake side and it was a really nice walk to the buses and food court. :thumbsup2

 If you go to the first page of this thread, all your questions will be answered and you will find maps of the resort as well as each section (50's, 60's 70's etc). This will make it easier for you to see what the resort looks like and find an area that appeals most to your family.:thumbsup2

Make sure your reservations are linked as that will be the most help in getting assigned connecting rooms.

Preferred room locations are generally closer to the bus and food court (some more than others), but you could still request the 60's and still be very close as many of the non-pref rooms in the 60's used to be part of the preferred group so are still great location wise. 70's are good too. Hope that makes sense!
In a nutshell, no need to upgrade, request 60's or 70's, then ask again at check-in. Or you could make
1.connecting rooms your first request &
2.close to food court you second request

If you make your requests in that order, the room assigner will understand what you are requesting for in room location.

Do not do on line check-in, but wait to speak with the CM at the front desk and ask them to check if you have connecting rooms already assigned and if so where - if you are not happy with the location or if connecting room request was not met, ask if they might find you connecting rooms in an area close to the food court (which also puts you close to the bus).

Hope this helps and have a great trip!!:goodvibes

Thank you!
Now do you think I dhould do online check in, or should we just do regular check in when we get there. Are our chances of better/connecting room any greater with one over the other?
Our check in day is the start of FD after a week of blackout days if that makes any difference!

A mere 1 week & 2 days before check in! We are renting a car.. so what building would you suggest for the following priorities!

1) Proximity to parking lot
2) Food court
3) Quiet
4) View

The parking lot side of Bldg 1 is perfect for 1, 2, and 3. Not so much for 4.

Actually one more question...

On the phone I didn't specifically request transportation from the airport, although I did mention I would be flying in. Do I need to call/email back to let them know? Or is it assumed? When would I know/how would I find out, what times the Magic Transportation would be at the airport?

You need to call back and add the Magical Express. You will need to have your flight numbers handy.:)

We are booked at Pop for our 5th free dining trip(Jan. 14-21, 2012). It will our 4th time staying at Pop. My son mentioned to me last week that the best room we ever had was when we had a first floor room right in front of the Hippy Dippy pool. I was surprised when I called to book, and the CM told me that they had a Preferred Pool view room. So, needless to say that I jumped on it. The only bad thing is that I can't tell my ds because it is his 13th BDay surprise trip. I am also bringing my 14 year old nephew for his first trip to WDW. But, I can't tell him either, because he might tell my son. :sad1:

Maybe we will see you there! We are going to be there from 1/12-1/21/12 but just booked 2 preferred rooms, not preferred pool view room. This will be our first time at POP and first time with free dining. We had already bought our park hopper tickets this summer but decided to hold on to them and try the free dining.
