Just thought I would share that my son (15) is a avid fisherman and the first question he asked when we announced our trip was could he bring along a fishing pole and where could he fish?
We thought it would be a complicated trip to visit Fort Wilderness with maybe a little fishing at the POP lake. Well he was so very excited when we got to POP and he saw all the fish in the lake, he fished every day and caught too many fish to count. This was the highlight of the trip for him and I am wondering why I even got him a park ticket:lmao:

So if you like to fish then pack a pole if your staying at POP!

Bev

There is a limit on the age that can fish though. I think it might be 14, but I could be wrong about that since I don't fish. I just remember reading it at one time. It may be in the 1st post.

I doubt there is a age limit at this time anyway, my son had plenty of company while fishing. Mostly other adults who shared their fishing experiences with DS, one guy gave him a loaf of white bread to 'prime' the fish since they are used to people feeding them bread leftovers. My DH also fished with him, they both talked to CM's before they started fishing and no one said anything about a age limit.

If your traveling with fishing poles we found a very nice pole tube a Cabelas for about $25, made carrying the poles onto the plane very easy and no problems with TSA with the tackle box either.

I'm heading to Pop Century in a few weeks and am thinking of bringing a small ice chest. Do the ice machines stay pretty full? If not, do they sell bagged ice at the resort? I want to have a few bottles of water and soft drinks on ice in my room and probably bring some sandwich fixings to cut down on spending.

we usually drive down, with a cooler.. filled with salami, baloney, cheese, mac salad, cottage cheese, beer, pop etc.
we have never had a problem getting ice from the cooler.

Thanks for the answers. The only time I've needed an ice chest at Disney was WAY back when my family stayed at FW. Other times I've had a fridge or DDP.

At the pool bar place what forms of payment are accepted? Can you charge to your room? Can you use a gift card? Thanks so much.

Yes, the easiest way is to charge to your room with your room key or KTTWC. If you have an AP, you will just have a room key, not a KTTWC, but you certainly can charge on it if you set it up that way at check-in. That holds true for all the Disney resorts. Don't risk bringing credit cards, especially to the pool. You can use the gift card too. The Pop pool doesn't have food like the pool bars at the DVC and Deluxe resorts do, but they have the same exact drink menu. I guess because the food court is so close they don't feel the need to have outside food service. However, I must say, the tuna salad on wheat that is sold at the Deluxe and DVC pool bars is DELICIOUS!!

Well...I did it! And I am sooooo excited.:banana::banana:
Just booked our next trip! The pressure of not having a ticker for the past 4 months got to me!
Heading back to POP for the 4th time this May! The twist...we are not telling the kiddo's this time. We are going to their school and get them out they day we leave...DH and I will be wearing our Mouse Ears (yes, we are dorks)...and they will be totally shocked to be going to the airport! Our kids are 7 & 9 and they are going to FLIP! Can I keep this secret for the next 6 months???!!!!
Off to officially add my ticker!

Thank you very much! (Also, thank you to the others who posted a response! I haven't been on in a few days to thank you.)

What is an AP? I'm not so good at all the acronyms sometimes. :)

I don't actually drink but my partner does. I was thinking of handing over a gift card so it would control the penchant for overspending at night after the kids and I go to bed!..... :)

Two months from today we'll be heading down for our first Disney trip!! Yay!!! (I've actually been there many times but I'm the only one and it's been over a decade since I last went.) It'll be the first time at Pop for any of us. I'm super excited and can't wait to tell the kids on Christmas morning! (Though it will probably be underwhelming when surrounded by new toys.) Thanks so much again!

I LOVE that idea! Especially the mouse ears....Wish I had the will power to do it myself, but I just couldn't help telling the kids. I'm paying for it big time now though. My 3yr old asks me every single day if we can go to Disney right now.....:headache:

when my DD was that age, she was happy to visit the disney store in between trips, I just told her we were just visiting and not buying or it could of gotten really expensive!

Another question - does anyone know if they sell those styrofoam coolers at the resort? Since we're flying we can't bring a cooler, and not sure if we'll have room to pack a soft sided one to keep in the room.

I've never been to pop, but I have heard that if not, you can get one delivered from the garden grocer. I believe I saw it on the first page of this thread.

I may have missed a discussion of this issue earlier, but do all of the refurbished rooms have the privacy curtains for the sink area? If not, do certain buildings have those?
We're taking my 17 year old grandson, so a little privacy would be nice.

Yes, they do! This is possibly the best thing about the new rooms--the added privacy!
