Very busy! I do believe Easter is one of the busiest days of the year. If you are going to a park, go early! They usually hit capacity on Easter (so I have read)

That's what we are afraid of. I was debating switching MK to Sat. and doing AK on Sunday to hopefully alleviate some of the crowds.

It's going be very crowded all week since Easter week is one of the most crowded all year (similar Christmas and 4th of July).

Just go early, as Jen suggested and leave when it gets too crowded. DO NOT go to any park for EMH, but rather to the park that had EMH the previous day.

Just jump in and have a fabulous time!! :thumbsup2

I am so excited! We have decided to stay a Pop again on our 11/29/09-12/05/09 tip to Disney!

We were going to do a local summer vacation this year but DH suggested that we take the cash and put it towards a Disney Trip. Heck, he didn't have to ask me twice! :woohoo:

We just got back yesterday from POP... I am going to admit it right now, so if you think there is absolutlely nothing wrong with POP then stop reading this right now.. This was our first stay at a value resort and I knew what to expect by reading these boards. There were people smoking all over the place! I read a little sign in the room saying if caught smoking on the balcony you will be fined 200-300$, well, the management did not follow that rule! I am a previous smoker so I feel I can say this.. YOU STINK!!! If they are not going to inforce the rules then why have them??? another rule they did not inforce was the using old mugs.. people were even using their own mugs from home!!! Did anyone say anything to them about the mugs??? NOOOOOOOOOO. Can you tell I am not happy with POP? I have stayed at the mods and I do not remember this much blatent disreguard for the rules! I have to believe it is the type of people that are staying at POP century. It is not everyone that stays there, I know there are good people who stay there that can only stay at a value resort to enjoy WDW. I feel sorry for them because they have to deal with these ignorant people! They deserve better!!If you buy a mug each time you stay at WDW resorts and you do not smoke, none of this applies to you. So now I have to stand and admit... I am now a resort snob...

Was the management made aware of the smokers or are you just assuming that they wouldn't do anything about it?

Also as for the mugs that happens everywhere, there are tons of posts about it.

I personally don't see how any of this makes Pop less of a resort. This was simply stupid people.

I don't understand how the dumb people there really reflects on the hotel. I encountered a lot of dumb/rude people when I stayed at a moderate last year. I saw plenty of people smoking where they shouldn't have and people using the wrong mugs. Did it bother me? No - because they weren't smoking in my room or in my face. And what mugs they use doesn't effect me at all. I have a feeling you went to the resort looking for something wrong with it. And if that's what you found, that makes me even more confident about staying at POP on our next trip. So thanks for that. Have fun spending insane amounts of money on your deluxe resort next time. And I'll have fun saving money and NOT having someone like you looking down your nose at me. Haha. :)

I wondered the same thing. Management isn't the smoke/mug police. They aren't always going to see people doing things wrong.

I'm kind of wondering if that person is a troll trying to make people mad by mentioning "hot button" things like mugs and whatnot.

So sorry your stay did not turn out better:sad2:,I personaly do not smoke but never had a problem with smokers any where but we should always respect the people were around the enviroment we are In,If there designated smoking area you should stay In that area. As far as guest following the Mug rules, and rules In genreal,Its up to Disney to enforce them,If there not!,my feeling Is I am not going to lose sleep over It relax, did the rest of you stay go ok?

I agree with you 100%. this really has nothing to do with the resort itself.
There are zillions of threads posting about old mugs or non-disney mugs being used at ALL resorts. This this is not a Pop issue, but a Disney issue on the whole.
Same with smoking. If you have a problem with these issues, you need to go to management and complain. I doubt anything will come with the mug issue, but maybe on the smoking one. I know smoking all over the whole property of Disney is supposed to be in designated spots, but even at the parks I see people smoking in open areas, not a smoking area.
I know some resorts till let people smoke on balconies. I saw it a Pop last year too. But those people will do it at the deluxe as well.
Also not everyone knows the policies. I only do becuase I am on here alot. I've never seen a sign about a fine and I've been to Pop twice. Now it could be new, or just in a spot that I wouldn't normally look at, and most others wouldn't either.

Did you LIKE anything about POP? I really don't think smoking and mugs count as a downfall. Was there other dislikes?

You have all kinds of people in all kinds of resorts. The rule breakers and uncouth stay at the deluxe's too. That would really bother me after I'd spent a wad a cash.

Yes management was made aware of the smoking, a couple of times. Did you see the post about a fire at POP century last week from someone smoking?? And yes they are the smoking and mug police!!! It is a safety and a health concern! If you are going to have a rule, enforce it, if not then don't have the rule! Don't charge me 13$ for a mug and let everyone else and their brother use their own mugs and not pay for the drinks! Just because it happens everywhere else on the property does not make it right! I don't care what resort it is, it should not happen! WDW should be doing something about it! I would think you would be mad that you are paying for someone elses drinks so you are in fact paying more money than you should be to cover the cost.
Yes there were thing I did enjoy about POP century, the bus service, the food court , the beds, the pool and bar, the theme of the resort to name a few. The smoking and the mugs (and the thin walls) were my only downfall for POP. I did not lose sleep over it (not that you would care!) but it may give a better representation of the resort to someone instead of wearing rose colored glasses, and saying everything is wonderful. This is MY personal feelings about the resort, you may not like it and that is OK with me! You are also entitled to your opinion!

For those of you that have stayed at a moderate resort, do you find it alot quieter?
I do agree that the walls are paper thin.
Loved Pop, thinking of tryign a moderate next time though just to say I did.

Stayed at POR last stay. I would say it was no different. We stayed in the mansions. They were beautiful but not any quieter. We could still hear the toilets and showers of those around us. Also our room faced a quiet pool but there were still kids swimming and laughing and just being kids there too.

I loved the POR resort but really for the price difference...not sure yet if it is worth it. We stayed at the ASMovies and then POR but now going back to a value, so we will see if we change our minds and go back to a mod after this trip.

For the kids sake, the values are much more of a fun resort with lots of things for kids to look at and fun settings. The moderates are not so fun looking but beautiful in a different way. I just like to try different resorts to get a whole different experience.

Just wondering something, if you go on Google maps and do an aerial of POP there is the "bridge to nowhere" that people refer to but then if you look closely there is foundations and some building that are the same as POP, does anyone know if this is an old resort being torn down or a new resort going up, it looks deserted and kind of spooky to me. Just wondering what it was or is????

Google map link of Aerial of Pop

This should answer all of your questions.

And incidentally enough, a follow up:

....the "bridge to nowhere" that people refer to but then if you look closely there is foundations and some building that are the same as POP.....

To add to the references that WDWforLife mentioned, go to Post #1. Under the "Legendary Years" section, there are many links to threads, pictures, and even video of this unfinished portion of the resort.

I didn't say it was "right" for people to use old mugs or smoke in certain areas. I just said it doesn't effect me. I easily get more $13 worth of beverages in my mug while I'm there. So it's worth it to me. If other people want to be cheap and smuggle different mugs in just to save a few bucks, it's pathetic...but again, doesn't really effect me.

I don't equate having a good time and not focusing on the bad (or looking for the bad) to "wearing rose colored glasses." But that's just me. I understand there will be not so great things at all of the resorts but I don't focus on those. I just try to have a good time.

OMG, thank you so much. I was fasinated with the google maps picture just wondering what that was. Thanks for all the links. All the abandoned building look creepy. It must of been weird for Jeff Lange to go through there. I really can't believe that Disney just left it there. Now all the buildings must be ruined. I did take a look at the building permit that you can see on Jim Hill's website and looks like this is where the new Disney Animation Suites will be. It will sure beat looking at the abandoned buildings. I can't wait to see what happens next. I hope nothing happens to Pop before we get there in September, I really don't want to be in the middle of construction.

Thanks for Jim Hill's website too..it is awesome!
