I thought about a standard room but hubby and 6yr old plan swimming late at night then running back to the room...I will be most likely in the room with the baby so I wanted a room near the pool if possible..thank you for the information, im pleased to know there are no disney brick walls!!! (although knowing disney the wall would have lit up and played small world or something similar. Im not going to bother checking in online..Im like you, I prefer to speak to someone in person and as long as there are no bad preffered rooms Im ok with that.
Just one other crazy question...incase our room is on the third floor, are there elevators? I dont fancy hauling the stroller up and down stairs??

Keep in mind that the rooms near the computer pool and the bowling pin pool are not preferred.

:goodvibes Yes, there are elevators.

There's only one way to get a song like that out of your head ... replace it with another song!! Alright, everybody join in!!

It's a small world after all!! It's a small world after all! It's a small world after all!! It's a small world after all! It's a small world after all!! It's a small world after all! It's a small world after all!! It's a small world after all! It's a small world after all!! It's a small world after all! It's a small world after all!! It's a small world after all! LOL! :rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

:rotfl:

I'm not sure if the music is decade-specific or just a mix from all the decades played everywhere. Wish I paid more attention to things like that. I do remember lying at the Hippy Dippy and hearing lots of Elvis. Not long ago, someone on the DIS gave us this list:

POP Music
I Want You - Savage Garden
Don’t Speak - No Doubt
Fields of Gold - Sting
Jesses Girl - Rick Springfield
Walk like an Egyptian -The Bangles
How deep is your Love- Bee Gees
Baby Love - Supremes
Help- Beatles
Bille Jean - Michael Jackson
Hound Dog - Elvis
Mmmm Bop - Hansen
Soul Bossa Nova - Quincy Jones
Theme from Grease- Frankie Valley
Star Wars Theme - Meco
Cantina Band - Meco
YMCA - Village People
The Hustle - Van McCoy & the Soul City Symphony
Bette Davis Eyes - Kim Carnes
Hot Child in the City -Nick Gilder
Wishing - Flock of Seagulls
Dance Hall Days- Wang Chung
Hold Me Now - Thompson Twins
Video Killed the Radio Star -Buggles
Who can it be now - Men at Work
Everybody- Backstreet Boys
Drift Away- Dobie Grey
A 5th of Beethoven- Walter Murphy
Jump - Pointer Sisters
Don’t be Cruel - Elvis
Witchdoctor - David Seville

Boy George is not on this list so there's probably much more.

Oh, I really like most of those songs. Now I really want to stay at Pop. I have a loooong wait, though. We're looking at 2010.

:goodvibes Yes, there are elevators.

Hi actually the rooms that are in the closest section of the bowling pin pools are preffered. (the first half before the opening for the elevators) I have stayed in that section 2 or 3 times in a preffered room, it's close by and much quieter at night than the 60's rooms poolside. The CM you speak to can give you guidance as to what they consider preffered.

I'm thinking that with a baby and a 6 yr you'll be glad to have a room a bit closer to the food court/lobby/buses. There are some quieter preferred areas - in case you haven't seen the map with the pref areas highlighted in yellow here it is:
http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=17643531&postcount=2

Maybe have a look at the map, pool locations and decide if you'd like to add a request on your reservation or at least have an idea where you'd like to be at check-in. :) POP has 4 floors and elevators are behind the large icons in the center of each bldg you'll see on the map and in the photos (i.e. Lady, Tramp, Jukebox).

Also, here are some nice photos of POP by a DIS moderator when he worked there at the time it opened: http://www.fricknfrack.net/pop/pop1.html

Enjoy! :goodvibes

Thank you sooo much that photo link was awesome..Im so excited now..we were at the Movie resort last year and I was 7 months pregnant and it was ok but I couldnt ride much and was very tired with swollen feet...this year I will be soooo making up for it!!! Im so pleased at the map..it looks like I wont get any bad room so it dosnt matter where we get. Last year we payed for a preffered room at the Movie resort but we were right at the back of toy story looking at a parking lot...I know they were still considered preffered but the view stunk and we had a bit of a walk to the food court and pool . We were the last room on the corner near the stairs. I know now I could have asked to be moved but not at the time. So, Im sitting here trying to make a packing list now to see what I need to buy..I always forget something. OT.. Im trying to convince my 6yr old and hubby that they need to take me to Treasure Island for 2 days of the vacation!! I dont want to check out of POP just drive down to the beach and stay overnight and drive back up the next day...they are not keen at all. There is a little shop in Johns Pass I just have to visit..before I had the kids Hubby and I would dive alot..I am still interested in dives and sunken treasure stuff..well this little shop sells real gold dubloons from the wreck Atocia..they are mounted into jewellery and are quite expensive...around $500 - $800..I have been saving up the last 2 birthdays, christmases and mothers days for this and hubby said he might get me one if they are not in the thousands. Every year we go and I look in the shop then walk away as I cant justify spending that much out of our budget , I then get home and kick myself for not getting one...this could be the year!!! Im determined before there are none left. Sooo this is my mission, that and having a great vacation with my family. I will let you know if I manage to get one.:goodvibes

Oh, I'm so glad the map and photos helped ease your concerns!!

Wow...I sure hope you get to the little shop in John's Pass! If you get your piece of jewelry, please promise to post a photo (and of course, your POP experience ;) ).

Hope you get the perfect room at POP! Fingers crossed, but it sounds like you are easy going guests and will enjoy any location. There are some rooms on the back side of the 50's pref that face very thick trees. I would not like that at all as it would be too dark for me - but it would be quiet and maybe with the baby that would be good.

I can't wait to hear all about your trip - are you driving from Texas? Oh and I just noticed your location - were you born in Scotland?

Happy packing!! (congrats on the new baby :lovestruc sounds like about the same age as my grand daughter :lovestruc).

When I booked my trip today, I was told that the 60's and 90's bldgs are the preferred rooms. I know that the 60's are preferred, but I had no idea about the 90's.

The 90s are not preferred. There is a link to the map in the first post.

Excellent! I'm glad it's current music playing! (heehee, the cds in my car are "the ultimate 80's collection"...... the cd in the kitchen player is Supertramp....the cd in the bedroom alarm player is Grease!)

Think I better switch the selection...hmm lemme see, Greatest Hits Partridge Family goes in this player.... Emotion Rescue Rolling Stones & Parachute Club in the car... and.... On the Radio Donna Summers for the bedroom alarm player!
As you can see I have a varied and well balance music collection!

ooo eee ooo ah ah ting tang walla walla.....

Over the years have learned not to trust anything a CM in reservations tells me and only half of what a CM at the resort tells me..lesson learned over 30 years!

Here's the link so you can see which bldgs are preferred (highlighted in yellow):

Thanks! I think I might call and request one of the preferred rooms in the 50's or 70's.

Don't forget that a preferred location is a higher nightly rate than non-preferred location. There are great rooms in the non-preferred areas of the 50's and 60's too. :thumbsup2

I got a pin code in the mail on Monday and the only rooms available at Pop for the dates I wanted were preferred. I called and got a quote the other day and it must have been for preferred because that was the total they told me today! So, it wasn't a shock to the system or anything.

:cool1: :cheer2: :yay: :dance3:

I just got a PIN CODE for dining, even though I already have it booked.... do you think that rate might be lower than what I got? Do they even do that? I booked direct through the site and somehow ended up w/the pin code!?! :confused3

We are not driving...we drove 7 years ago and hubby says never again!!! ?I moaned the whole way...it was too long for me...us brits dont like to drive at all let alone 16 hours!!! when we hit Florida I was so relieved only to find out we had the same drive again!!!! I hated every minute of it..so we are flying down, direct flight only 1hour 50 mins..perfect!
I have been in houston for 11 years now (i only came for 2 years!!) but we have 2 little Texans now so we are staying until they kick us out!! We do have our green cards now though so they might keep us.;)
The reason my quote says in Texas for my sins is its hotter than hell here!!! I think Im being primed for where Im going when I die..hehe You know us Brits dont take the heat well...it takes us a week in the sun to go from blue to white!! But I do love it here, its a nice place to raise a family. We are north of houston in a place called Spring...much quieter and woody, very pretty.
My youngest baby is 11 months (Ben) oldest 7yrs (Tommy), this will be Bens first trip and I know he will love it..hes such an easy going baby.
Your little grandaughter is just adorable!! they do look about the same age.
I will definitly let you know if I get my gold dubloon!!! fingers crossed!!:thumbsup2

One never knows with Disney, so it certainly would not hurt to call and see what price they give you for the same as you have now, only with your pin code. Some CM's will be hesitant to do this, but hang up and call back until you get one who will - you are entitled to know for sure.

Good luck!!! :goodvibes

Going to watch my son in their HS production of Grease in about 30 minutes! I'll sing along (under my breath) for you! ;)

The pin code I got was for kids (ages 3-9) stay, play and eat for free. It's for 4 nights/5 days. The price quoted in the mail I got was for a value resort, but I did call and check the price for a mod. The value was much better for us! With only 5 days, we won't be at the hotel much.
