So, we're getting off Kilimanjaro Safaris and my neighbors' daughter says, "Why is the Lion always sleep when we ride this?" (She's 5yrs old)

So my neighbor, who is a self-proclaimed Disney expert, says that the Loin in the Kilimanjaro Safaris is feed an extremely large breakfast and then is given an additional mid afternoon snack. Basically, they stuff the Lion with so much food that he/she becomes lethargic, almost incapable of moving, and simply sleeps the day away. During evenings, the Lion(s) is feed a very small meal which keeps the cat up all night, pretty much expanding energy and becoming exhausted. By the time morning comes, the cat is starving and just wants to eat and sleep. Thus you have the sleepy Lion

Now, the kicker is this... :rolleyes1

My neighbor said his theory (or whatever you want to call it) holds SO much truth that no one could ever produce a picture of the Lion beginning woke, standing up, or walking around. I told him he's full of cat *hit and would bet someone on this board could post a picture of the Lion doing something besides sleeping. So the bet is on! Someone help me prove this guess wrong or I'll never hear the end of it.

I got nothin'. But now that you mention it, that lion DOES seem to sleep a lot. I'm waiting to see some pics of a fully-awake Simba...popcorn::

We either snapped - or tried to snap - a pic of the lion up and awake on our last trip. I'll see if I can locate it.

As to why he sleeps? Uh, hello... lions are mainly nocturnal. Has nothing to do with Disney, in effect, drugging him.

I regret reading this thread....now I have "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" stuck in my head! :rotfl2:

No pics, but I can tell you the that lion was awaking and walking around on our trip. (June 24th approx. 12-1pm). We were very surprised b/c he does usually just sit. If my sister in law took any pics, I will get them and post. Good luck!

Thats what I told him but he claims at some point the Lion would get up. He basically says the morning feeding is so much that it causes the Lion to sleep all day.

One of the days we are going to AK there is EMH at 8 in the morning so we are gonna try to get him while he is still awake, i'll snap a shot of him for you!

I didn't get a picture, but we did the safari first thing this past Monday morning. EMH at 8am. The lion walked to the edge of the stone and then flopped himself down for a nap. We were laughing because it looked just like my cat does at home. :lmao:

A couple years ago, on an early-morning Safari, we rounded the bend and saw the male lion standing regally, looking into the distance. Just like the Lion King movie posters. The driver said, "Whoa! That's a real mantle-hanger!" Meaning, a rare photo shot.

I'm sure I took a picture of it but who knows where it is. You'll just have to take my word for it.

We've never seen him standing up since then. But I'm sure the PP's are correct - most cats sleep a lot, saving their energy for short bursts.

We didn't get a picture but one morning during EMH Mr. Lion was very much awake and going after Ms. Lion. The safari driver had to turn off her mike and every adult on the safari was laughing and kids were asking their parents what the lions were doing...

I do have a picture or video not sure, I remember the lion walking around and I said to my DD get a picture because my DH swear the lion is fake.:rotfl: I have to get the camera out and ck it. I'll try to post it soon. We were there in Nov early afternoon when he was up and about.

Here's a few I got, he was wide awake and beautiful!
