I wanted to say debate, but I didn't want this thread to get moved to the debate board. Anywho...

The Great Christmas Debate.....Multi-Colored or White lights?

Anyone who's ever spent 30 seconds watching a QVC christmas shopping show with David Venable (sp?) knows that he and Mary Beth Rowe (sp?) are constantly going back and forth about multi and clear. He likes multi...she likes clear. So, what do you prefer? Personally, I prefer all white. I add red bows for that little splash of color but white just screams classy to me. I was once a multi fan but have been converted...LOL. What about you?

clear lights .. they're so much classier than the multicolored lights. :)

I actually like all blue.

I do like the white and think it's classy, but I get tired of too much class. Every now and then it's nice to see a winterwonderland of color.

White all the way...

Colored is tacky for me. I do like the red bows, or even this, the real pine garland either around the doorway, fence with the white light interspersed with it... (I saw this yesterday, and thought it was so pretty)

I don't like the white icicle lights though.. they are overkill around here.

I like both! On our family tree it is multi all the way! Lots of lights. My tree in the dining room is all white with simple ornaments,
I personally love candles in all windows. (with white bulbs/clear) not orange!

Call me tacky because I just can't do Christmas without lots of color and that includes the lights. White lights can be pretty but they just don't seem as fun. Christmas is not about sophistication to me it is about being a kid and having a good time and colored lights do that for me! :)

I like both, too...for me it all depends on the entire theme of the decorating...whichever looks or goes better. :)

I also really love this time of year! :)

We're kind of mixed on this one. I prefer the white lights. It has nothing to do with class - I just think they set off all of the ornaments betters & are easier to see...and I like LOTS of lights! ;) By the time DH gets all of the white lights on that satisfy me, he may or may not feel like putting on the multi lights. I think it depends largely on how big the tree it & whether is seems saturated or not.

In addition to all my "ornaments" (Hallmark, etc) I use red balls, red candles - the kind where two are connected by the wick, small R&W candy canes, red raffia bows . . . lots of red accents.

We like both. We have the tree covered in multi colored, but the outside of the house is all white. White in the tree, on the roof and wrapped with live garland all over the porch.

I love the look of the all white lights and the classy look. But just call me tacky in Indy. Multi-colored bulbs, tacky decorations, and mismatched ornaments. I wouldn't want it any other way. :teeth:

I used to be a fan of color but seeing an all white tree looks really good to me :teeth:

I guess I am tacky, too.I love the coloured lights. My house outside is a splash of colour in a neighbourhood of white lights. My tree has 1500 coloured lights and mismatched ornaments.

We live in a pretty affluent area where everyone has white lights therefore I prefer COLOR

I have all white on the outside of my house. We have a red brick Georgian style house with 10 identical windows in the front. Each window has an identical wreath with a red velvet bow. The white lights just look really good with all the wreaths.

My main tree in the living room is all multi-color with the medium size C-7 bulbs. All the ornaments are red, blue, green, gold and purple.

My foyer tree is gold and white lights with gold and ivory ornaments.

My basement tree is green and white lights with all the mismatched family ornaments.

All the kids have a small (3-ft) tree is their bedrooms, and they all have multi-color lights.

So, I guess my answer is BOTH!!

DH grew up with a mom who loves white lights, so that is what he prefers. I grew up with colored lights, so I like them better. So we decorate our tree with BOTH. Okay, call us tacky, but that way we are both happy and the tree looks beautiful.

Outside we trade off, either white lights, blue and white lights or green and white lights.

i like clear for the outside and colored for the tree. :)

I like all lights! Color, clear, blinking, non-blinking, icicle, lace, big, small, candle shaped, frosted snowball shape, all of them, except TRACERS - the ones that trace the outline of a house and go round and round and round and round ... I just don't like those. I like any other color or decoration. Tacky or "classie", it doesn't matter to me. :p

WHITE!!

But I do like to see outside trees done up in color --- although I prefer solid of each particular color - not the mixmatched colored trees. And those BLINKING lights -- arent' they so very special!

Both!!

The only ones I don't like are where the *entire* house/yard/whatever is done in all red or all blue or all green (though I haven't seen all green often).

I love white, I also love colored. :) I even like those that have some parts of their yard/house in white and others in colored, as long as it's done well. But that's hard to pull off without looking horrible.

Our tree has the multi-colored lights, my parents' has all white.

I'm tempted this year to add a strand of white lights to our multi-colored ones, but since I have the garland up, that's not gonna happen. ;)
