The Good Ole Freap Chat ~ Sequel Part III ~

Good luck with the clean up "We Love Disney" :grouphug: Since power went out Thursday night my brother got his back Sunday around 6PM and my sister is still out without an ETA on when it's coming back on today :guilty: She has lost all her fish in her fish tank (50 gallon tank) and her kitties are not happy. My brother nearly lost all his fish - salt water & fresh and several tanks ranging from 20-100 gallons but hopefully because he got a generator hooked up for heat only (no hot water) and a couple lights he spared them in time. My aunt & cousin both have no power and were told possibly up to 10 more days till it's restored  It really looks like a war zone but it's weird because it can be totally different from one street to the next, there was no rhyme or reason the way the storm hit us. We were one of the lucky ones and didn't lose power but my siblings are only between 2 to 5 miles away from us. Many people are displaced and living in hotels miles away from their homes due to this storm and we are expecting an ice/snow storm Wednesday evening :guilty:
Has everyone been having "fairly nice" weather until this sudden spell? I had been watching the weather back east, last week, because MSU Grizzlies out of Missoula went back east for college football playoffs. I had seen rain was to come through the eastern area, but not the demolition it has become! :sad2:

Thank you to all the warm wishes sent our way. As promised, some pictures from the last few days. Now the real work begins. The clean up will take months to complete. So many people have been affected by this storm. Many are far worse off than we are. More winter weather is expected later this week, which is going to be devastating those still without heat. These disasters can either bring out the best in people, or the worst.

Winter has its beauty, but it can be deadly.

The tops of the trees have come right off as seen in photos above and below

The big limb is laying on my house while the other is on the power line.

Telephone and giant tree limb across the road. These poor people still don't have their power on, while everyone else on our street is on. Fortunately they have a generator to heat the house and cook their food.

More pictures to follow soon.

Ill be praying for everyone effected. These kind of things go unnoticed a lot, but really pull on my heart strings!!

We_Love_Disney- Glad you have your heat back. Sorry you had to go through it- here in VT we missed the bulk of the storm, go figure :confused3 . It is amazing how those beautiful icy trees can make such tremendous damage.
Kellie- Glad you guys got your present early this year :thumbsup2 .

Wow.. sounds like what we go through when we get a hurricane nearby. :sad2: We lost power for a week after Hurricane Wilma in 2005, and everything in the house is run on electric including our well, so no water either. It's not fun. Has the area been declared a disaster? Hopefully for your sake it will be, once it is then you can get reimbursed from FEMA for things - even things like hotel rooms.

Maggi- I thought of you when I read this story that one of my Dis friends wrote for a website.

It is about her Dachshund Dolci- I wanted to pass it along to you! (isn't there another freap who also has a dachshund?)

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1269924/life_with_a_delightful_dachshund.html?cat=53

Thanks for the story!! I love my dachshunds too! I read that they are considered the MOST AGGRESSIVE BREED- who would have thunk? And to be such a small breed at that. We have never had issues with being aggressive except with my female. She cannot stand other female dogs. Other than that we are good to go.

And I completely agree with your friend about not expecting what she saw when she went to the breeder. I kept asking DH if they were really dachshunds. I couldnt believe their noses didnt look like dachshunds for the longest time.
Here they are about 3 years ago. They were so sweet (and still are)... but I admit I miss them as puppies!!

OMG- they are so ca-yute! I want to squooooosh them:love: In the 2nd pic, their faces kind of resemble a beagle.

I will let you know if she is writing more pup stories!

Please do!! My heart melts when I go through their old pictures. I just want to kiss on their big fat paws and oversided ears!!

You know- I just remember this. When I was small, my aunt had a dachshund, Mia! That little thing was so nasty! When I was at her house, I knew NEVER to get near her. I would get yelled at if I was within 5 ft of the dog:eek:

But, then again, my aunt was not the nicest person either:lmao: I think the dog does relfect it's owner!;)

At our local vet all the employees know our dogs by personality and name. They just hired a new Vet that i saw last time when I took Jethro in and she stood pretty far back and asked really loudly "is he aggressive"..lol... I considered saying yes to see how she would go about dealing with him just for kicks, but then i envisioned a mussel and harness and told her no. LOL... he might lick her to death- but that's about the extent of it!

Just doing a drive by post to say Hi to all my freaps friends and wish everyone a Merry Christmas. Thanks Mt. Bluejeans for the snowball fight, back at ya!

Yes! Thanks Susan for the snowball:hug:

:lmao: Mine had a rock in it and I almost lost an eye!:rotfl2:

Good to see you, MinnieVanMom! If I had know the snowball would get you to stop by, I would have thrown it sooner. ;)

:lmao: :rotfl2: I only heard about the shoe incident. :lmao: Who would have thought anyone would feel the need to study anything he does :lmao: :rolleyes1

I think it is :rotfl2: that the media is surprised at Mr. Prez's agility. Nobody thought he would be good at 'duck and cover'??? :rotfl:

How did I miss this post? I love the pictures you have on the walls. You're an antique shopper??

...I am not as traditional when it comes to xmas decorations and trees- I call these my Charlie Brown xmas trees:rotfl2: My decorations are little birds and apples so it looks like my trees are outside. I got all those little glass votive candle holders on my mantle at a yard sale! I got all of them for 3 bucks! They all have the little berry wreaths around the bottom of them. They look so pretty when you put candles in all of them. (Please excuse the stars hanging from the ceiling. I am still searching for the perfect light to go there. I have been looking for a few years. I am not a Home Depot person, so I need to wait until I find the perfect fit. )

This prez has a problem when it comes to his "speaking agility" however, the shoe would have probably *doinked* prez Ford in the head. He was not so agile:laughing:

The pics? I got the 2 over the mantle @ a yard sale in Lambertville NJ. I just wanted them for some reason. People think they are family pics. The one of the little girl, I bought that one new at this awesome store I shop at. I also got the red chair there too.

I refuse to pay a lot of $$ for "antiques" I am more of a picky yard saler. I find it funny when I do go into some antique stores and I see things that I paid a few bucks for at a yard sale:rotfl2: Most people have no idea what they are giving away. ;)

Your observation may be the whole premise for the Antiques Roadshow. :thumbsup2 And you certainly have good taste. :cloud9:

Thanks. :flower3:

One of my favorite finds was a framed print of the "Prayer at Valley Forge" I got it for $30 at a yard sale! It is #1322 of 1500 and came with the Cert of Authenticity.

I looked it up and they are selling for a couple hundred dollars. DH said to sell it, and I said no way. The couple hundred $$s will run through our fingers like water in a matter of no time- at least I have this pic forever.

BUT- I had it over my fireplace at our condo, before this house, and it FELL!:scared1: The glass is broken and it scratched up the pic. I need to get it fixed.:guilty: That will cost more than what I paid for the pic:sad2:
