The games people play

We are "turned off" by TV and now spend our evenings together as a family (me, DH and DS 11). We have a lot of fun playing games. Lately our favorites are Yatzee and Uno Attack.

What others can you recommend? A co-worker was telling me about Break the Safe. Has anyone played this game? I am considering buying a few new games for our Adoption Day celebration this weekend and can use some suggestions. Thanks!

Our current favorites are LOTR monopoly and LOTR risk.

Ive heard decent things about Break the Safe but it might be rather young for your family (its with the younger kid set in my store- I dont remember the age group)

Are you looking for more classics or "newer" games? They have some fun versions of classic games (Lord of the Rings Risk/Monopoly-Simpsons Clue- Disney Sorry- Disney Monopoly etc) other popular ones are any of the Cranium games (Cranium, Hullabaloo,Cadoo, etc- ages vary)

Your at akward age group as your son is prob getting to old for kids games but not old enough to get into the trivia/adult games like Battle of the Sexes, Fact or Crap, Trivia Pursuit etc

One of my favorites is Rummykub (a tile numbers game)

My son, also 11, likes Life. You might also try Scrabble or Boggle.

My son is 9 going on 10 and he held his own in a game with adults called balderdash.

If I remember correctly, you get an obscure word and you have to make up a meaning to this obscure word, and convince others that your meaning was the best.

He had a blast playing it

My sons, 8 and 12 love Break the Safe. It is a fast paced game that you win or lose as a team, not individually. The box says it's for ages 8+. They would highly recommend it. As a suggestion, how about cribbage? Or other card games. Our family also likes to play pictionary. We have the junior version which is plenty challenging for us since some of us are "artistically impaired"!

Clue, Mousetrap are few that come to mind. If they are really good at card games, maybe cribbage is worth a shot.

We like Labyrinth (the board game, not the maze thing), Sequence, and Phase 10. My DDs are 9 and 11, and these games appeal to both of them. We also enjoy Cranium.

Another classic is Payday. How about Scrabble or Boggle? Both are fun. My kids love card games as well.

I don't know what age category this falls into but I love Scattagories. I always laugh so hard, I cry when we play that game!

We like to play a few "card" games....two of them are "Mille Bourne" and "Pit", both are by Milton Bradley, I believe. Both would be good for your DSs age, plus you and DH. Have fun!

Classic favorites in our house are Scrabble, Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit (we have 6 or 7 versions including the new Disney one...it's good....2 levels of questions!)and cribbage. DH likes chess, too, but I can never remember the rules!!

Newer games...we LOVE the Cranium games. We got Cranium for Christmas...it's fabulous! Got DD their youngest game (ages 3-5) and she loves it! They have 2 or 3 other age-ranged games between hers and ours, and I can't wait to try them with her! That line seems to be really great

Been thinking of starting this with some friends who come over every Saturday, but since it started out as "Trading Spaces" viewing night, I'm not getting much traction! Hope you guys enjoy all your game time!!
