The Future of Fast Pass Plus

To be fair, I haven't gone through all the posts on this thread, but, I don't get how people can say they prefer the old system where you could plan on the day. You got one FP, if you went to Epcot for Soarin' or TT or DHS for TSM and despite dashing at rope drop you could only get a FP for mid afternoon at the earliest, what would you do, have no FP or get that one and not be able to get another one for the rest of the day? It didn't matter if I was at the front at RD at DHS and no matter how fast my little legs went I would spend 15 minutes minimum queuing to get the FP, usually behind tour guides feeding several dozen tickets in watching the time go later and later and never got a FP earlier than 4.30pm, so do I get it and not be able to get another FP, because you cannot cancel it once you got it or do without? Similar with Soarin', luckily I could always head over to SRL for TT, but, that's not the point. I love the new system, I get Soarin' or TSM without the hoo ha and another two on top. I'm not tech savvy, I barely know how to use my cell phone, but, I have had no issues at all with MDE or FP+, maybe I just got lucky or maybe I appreciate the difference it makes and I'm more flexible and work out my park visits around what I get rather than the other way around.

If you pulled a tsm legacy fp at 9:00 with a return time of 4:30 you would have been able to get another fp at 11:00, could have gotten one for rnrc for about 1:00, gotten a tot fp at 1:00 for about 2:30 and then could have used fp at star tours or other rides that didn't need it as much. The advantage to the old system was the ability to get multiple e ticket fps at Epcot and dhs whereas now you can only get soarin or Tt and tsm or rnrc.

It was easy to get fps for both of these rides with legacy if you were there at rope drop

My advice would be to complain to disney if you have issues / experienced any problems.

because moaning on here while cathartic isn't going to do anything.

mac.

How do you know they haven't complained directly to Disney? I've made no less than 3 calls to it in the past week alone.

The system losing your reservation should never happen.. End of story. However, since it does, Disney needs to have some sort of recovery system in place for guests who run into this problem. Particularly if someone has a printout of some kind or a photograph, that should be proof enough. I can't imagine that many people are going to Photoshop fakes just to get a couple fast passes that would make that a loophole they needed to close.

It's not that you can photoshop them it's that you could print a screenshot then change everything and essentially get 6 fps for the day if Disney just took people at their word

I think FP+ stinks.

I don't like having to do work to plan my vacation and everything I want to do 30 or 60 days out(and don't say that "I don't have to". I do if I want to do any of the better attractions or shows.)

The system itself(APP & WEBSITE) are extremely glitchy. Often doesn't work and plenty of people having their FP's just vanish into thin air.

It's here to stay and it's only going to get worse. They will eventually add more options, but I also believe they will eventually eliminate any stand by lines.(it's happening right now with Anna and Elsa)

They are not eliminating the standby line, they are managing it due to overwhelming demand. It is the same with any product that has too much demand and not enough supply. Rationing eventually takes place. Remember when the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 came out? You could only buy one unit and you had to have a ticket to buy it. Same thing..you have to have a FP or a standby pass. They are managing the standby line the face of destructive overload due to unprecedented demand. It is also a system that can be easily removed when that demand is no longer there.

You show your app with the time and they let you through like many others have stated.

So their Incompetent IT means guests get screwed..,and that's better how?

Btw..,just checked MDE and it "can't locate your FP reservations at this time".

This is typical of the VAST MAJORITY of Disney guests. And your post is what gives me hope whenever I am on these boards. The FP system IS cool. The website IS cool. The app IS cool. And Magic Bands ARE cool. The [mostly] negative stuff you are reading here comes from people who truly go to WDW too many times. They think they have it down to a science. They are claim to be Disney fans. But many of them simply complain about anything new and different. It's obvious that "change" is not a good thing to many of these people.

And I'm with you on the "rope drop" and "touring" thing. Rope drop makes a sense because it is technically how they used to open most of the parks (by holding guests at a rope, and having an announcement of sorts to open the park). The term "touring" makes me crazy. This is coming from people who have been to these parks multiple times over many years. I don't get it, and it sounds a little crazy. If you are visiting for the first time ever, then I guess you are "touring" the parks. Other than that, it's just strange to refer to your time in the parks as "touring".

Of course this is just my opinion. I will be in the minority, and several people will call me out on this. This is called "flaming". Watch how it works. It's quite amusing.

Welcome to the boards. Use them with a grain of salt. You are going to have a great vacation. :thumbsup2

I'll probably get flamed for this. I feel there are a lot of 'entitled' people out there, it is all about them, they hate FP+ so lets get rid of it, MDE is sooo difficult and because they cannot get a FP+ for the day and exact time they want they moan, a little bit of chilling and flexibility people, you are on vacation, not on an expedition to Outer Mongolia. And as others have said, if you hate what Disney are doing then try somewhere new.

And yet somehow FP+ is more complex and time consuming then the system you just referenced according to many posters. I would need another vacation if I went through a park like that.

But holding onto a paper FP is 100% within your control. Disney IT glitches and disappearing FPs are not within your control. THAT is the issue. It removes your ability to control your own outcome. It is utterly ridiculous to put "guests" in that position then say "sorry, I can't help you."

AH! there it's the illusion of some control you are missing. Okay got it. It's the machine vs you. This I can understand, I don't agree, but at least I can understand it.

So their Incompetent IT means guests get screwed..,and that's better how?

Didn't say it's better- just said that's the other side of the coin

The one time my band didn't let me through I just showed them my app and they let me through.

I just really want to know when cast members can link their main gates to the FP+ system!

You may get flamed, but probably because your post is already flaming others.

I don't forsee a return to old FP. I just want them to FIX THE CURRENT VERSION OF IT and MDE so it works consistently, all the time.

No I don't think that- I prefer the new system- or at least am ambivalent towards it- I was just pointing out that you didn't have to wait until your return time to get another legacy fp if it was more than two hours out.

Trust me I'm on the pro fp+ crowd- just ask mom :)

I don't think you quite understood how the legacy FP worked.

And if your app has lost your reservations?

As i said a few days back it's only happened to me once and they reinstated it at the kiosk via a screenshot from the same day. I can't speak to what other people'a experiences have been but my experience with the app and Disney it has been very simple and cordial

I'm curious what you found the difference between your experience with the old "paper" FP and the new FP+ system..........in the park? I've done the paper FP (last May) and will be doing FP+ (in Sept) and I will surely be looking into this enjoyment factor you speak of. While I can't speak to it yet..............just curious as to what you found made FP+ so bad during park time.

Doug :goofy:

I think the PP was referring to the FP practice of being able to ride the E-tickets back to back to back to back using paper. That is the biggest reason people say it won't work for them, they want the headliners only and want to ride them multiple times without a significant wait. Or the other argument about being able to pull 10+ FP's in a day?

To me this is the biggest disadvantage to fp+. It is much harder to ride space 6 times in a day or tsmm four times in a day, alas we have adapted and will survive ;)

I take offense at this. How do you know it's "their Incompetent IT?" Really you've traced every root cause failure to Disney's IT staff?

Why does it have to be their IT people?

Why can't it be your ISP? Or you not doing something right Or a problem with your Hardware.

Oh please. I take it you work in IT? My husband does too. Its not us, or the ISP or our hardware. It's Disney. Full stop.
