The flu epidemic! Fact or News?

All of the frenzy about the flu on the news has me wondering, is it really an epidemic or just a slow news week?????

DD is sick right now. Cold, cough, ear infection. My mother right away said she needs a flu shot. If she had one, wouldn't she still haven't gotten this cold?

Doesn't the flu shot just prevent that one strain of flu??????

So is the flu really worse this year or just being more hyped in the media???????

Like I told my Dh I think it's a combo of FLu starting EARLY this year and it being slow news week. As for your dtr. and getting flu shot, the shot is helpful in lessening the effects of any strain of flu.

Like just about every big news story I think that this is part fact and part fiction. The strain of the flu this year does, in fact, seem to be more serious. But the flu shot is hardly a cure all. It will only prevent you from getting the strain of the virus you are innoculated against. It will not keep you from getting a cold or some other virus.

To answer your question about your DDs cold, you are correct, a flu shot would not lessen her chances of catching a cold and would not lessen the severity of the cold.

Having said that, I'm all for flu shots because the flu is so much worse than a cold.

I hope your DD is feeling better soon, even a bad cold can be miserable
