The first VMK game

On our VMK tour, the guide was talking about the first attempt at VMK (back in 1996 I think). He said they gave up after a year because the technology wasn't there. The partial development was released under a different title and won some awards. Does anyone know what this game was called? I would love to get my hands on it!
