Your so good at looking things up, I was wondering if you knew of a way to see if vandenbergs dad had ever been up on rape charges. Hate using that word but no other way to ask.
No problem! I'm out now (I was sitting in the car waiting for the rain to let up when I responded before) but I'll for sure look when I get home.

Oh thank you! You are so sweet to do that! I appreciate it, and be careful driving.

#Vandytrial - Trial wraps up early today. State only has 1 witness left, the victim. She will not be in court until tomorrow.

Usnuz, I've been looking as well, can't seem to find anything. Although if he got away with it, maybe there is no record? Hopefully that the testimony is out, someone will have info on it. Terrible to think that he may have learned this from his father, I hope it's not true!

He almost did get away with it. Sounds like he has learned a lot from home for sure. Maybe Mare can turn up something.

You're welcome! I searched and searched and searched last night but I forgot to post here. I couldn't find anything. I think the problem is when you search for things like criminal records or rape or arrest or assault you just come up with the son's information. Rhode Island has a defendant search which seems to give you any case for the last many many years but I have found with other states that it only includes incarcerated criminals. I don't know if there's also an option like Rhode Island has.

I did see a wordpress website which showed a couple of obnoxious FB posts by his father after the fact, and I think text messages. I haven't followed this case at all, but it sounds like "like father like son." I'll see if I can find it again.

Ack, I found that WordPress page but it's really kind of ridiculous and overreaching, making assumptions about things, IMHO. I wasn't even sure what WordPress was so I googled it and it's just a website to set up blogs? So it was basically the musings of a nobody.

The Commomwealth of Massachusetts Response to Michelle Carter's Motion to Dismiss (Michelle Carter is the girl charged with manslaughter for encouraging a boy to commit suicide.) (Includes the text messages between them.)

https://lintvwpri.files.wordpress.com/2015/08/response-to-michelle-carters-motion-to-dismiss.pdf

And since it wasn't dismissed, it was brought before the Massachusetts Supreme Court:

Michelle Carter is from Plainville Massachusetts which is the next town over from North Attleboro which is where Aaron Hernandez lived. Totally irrelevant to anything but a fact nonetheless.

An article posted today in the Atlanta Journal–Constitution about the Justin Ross Harris trial...

His divorce is final and it looks like his ex-wife is going to be called by both the prosecution and the defense. According to the defense, she still doesn't believe he's guilty.

Here is one of the most damning pieces of evidence IMHO... After leaving the restaurant where they had breakfast it took less than two minutes to get to the intersection where he would have to turn to go to the day care or continue going straight to work. In less than two minutes he forgot Cooper was in the car? I understand about being preoccupied and forgetting things…I'm an old person ;) …but I don't understand this kind of forgetting, not your child, not in two minutes, not on a hot day.

Not at ALL defending this guy, but I think it's possible, yes. When parents swap driving with the kids, they may go into (incorrect) autopilot as soon as they start driving, if the child is quiet.
I don't, however, think it was accidental with him, I think he's a horrible man who knew what he was doing.

I understand the concept of a change in plans occurring in some of these cases of children being left in cars. But in this case he completely forgot in less than two minutes, after sitting down to breakfast with him, that his child was in the backseat. He himself put his child in the car seat...he's the one, direct contact and interaction (I think it said that he gave him a kiss as he did)...and in less than two minutes completely forgot his son was there, so as to not take that turn, drive to work a short distance, get out of the car, walk away and never remember. I'm not buying that it's even possible in this case. Do I think it's enough to convict someone, in and of itself? Of course not. No one thing usually does, and people can always say it could happen that he honestly forgot. I'm just not buying it, even without the information about what a scumbag he is, and I believe it's a difficult fact for the defense to overcome.

What do you mean by explosion? I read about today's testimony and I saw some of the testimony on YouTube but nothing mentioned or shown of any kind of explosion or outburst.

This is a case I definitely could not have followed. The testimony is too graphic and sickening.

He hollered that his attys bullied him into not testifying. He wanted the judge to give him more time to think about testifying. He complained how unfair it was that he was brought to trial very quickly. He had a 15 month old son. The judge told him he 10 minutes to say yes or no to testifying. Batey wanted the whole trial to stop.

Well he did not get the full aggravated , only on count 2 the rest was aggravated sexual assault

Unlikely, I'll agree, yes, but I don't believe it's impossible. I know I've gotten on the parkway in the direction I normally go when I've meant to go the other way, just force of habit and not paying attention, and the entrance is less than two minutes from my house, and I certainly knew my destination when I got into the car. I really believe once someone starts to drive, they can get into the wrong mode right away. I don't think it's as much a matter of time, just that the brain goes on the wrong autopilot, especially when a person sometimes drives the child, and sometimes doesn't.

BTW, is there a new thread for the Harris case? Thanks:)
