What a sad story despite the town's coming together to memorialize Mary Lou. :sad1:

And what the hell was that assistant dean thinking when he contacted that kid? Trying to reconcile his own guilt? And as a side note, I am so anti-texting and phone use unless it's hands free, I've contacted state/local reps about legislation against it. We had a chance at a statewide ban (legislators sent him a bill for signature) a few years ago, but our Governor thought it was government overreach, an infringement on people's rights to ban texting while driving. All I have to say is should anything happen to wife or family with a texting driver to blame and I'll be suing not only the driver, but the State and Rick Perry also. And I won't even start on drunk driving.

I hope Megan wins her suit too, but if not at least this information is out there, how disgusting. :sad2:
I watch Oprah's Where Are They Now and there was an update on a young woman who had gotten in a serious car accident because she read a text while driving. The text was from her mother who didn't know that her daughter was driving at the time…she had lied to her mother about where she was. The text that distracted her, that made her take her eyes off the road so that she crashed her car, was "OK." I know she does speaking appearances, but they should really get her out there more. She was seriously injured and her appearance was greatly affected, over what has to be the shortest text you can receive.

I got back to reading Juan Martinez's book, and just had to mention the "Change of Venue Cafe" in the building where he works. :) I really thought there wouldn't be anything new in this book, but it's really interesting how things came together, and about how Jodi's own family portrayed her in interviews. What a nightmare that girl was and is.

Are you trying to entice me to read Juans book? :rotfl:

Belated Happy Mothers Day!

Same to you. :)

And it's a way better read than I expected! I thought, what can he say that we don't already know? A LOT!

Hey, I've been wondering where you've been, haven't seen you for a while. How's the new work hours?

No call is FANTASTIC. Been driving a lot, but that's going to straighten out next week :)

I have no idea how much that costs. I guess some man will supply the money
20-30 K for the "rental of the womb"....

So, you do know I was kidding about the surrogate, right? :)

I think we talked about solitary confinement on this thread. Did anyone see Nightline: "Hidden America: Inside Rikers Island"? I recently got TiVo and it records suggested shows on its own, and recorded this. Very interesting. Found myself feeling sorry for the prisoners  and feeling sorry for the guards. It's a tough situation. There appears to be some progress with prison programs, but some of those prisoners are just hopeless, dangerous cases.

You are so right Mare. Jails in other countries are very brutal. There was a hearing for Dalton, the uber driver. Just watching 5hat makes it look like it will be good. He had an out burst in court. And it was heart breaking for the woman on the stand. The case is in Michigan. Go to court chatter under the you tube video. He is bound over for trial. A judge deemed fit to stand trial. I don't know how.
