The Feast of Fools! back from WDW- be on the look out for trip report

Before we get started I just wanted to say that this vacation is an exercise in me not trying to over plan things. I still know what I want to do, and approximately when, but I'm not putting it all down on a touringplan like I did last time. I think at F&WF I need to be a little more free with my plans... but only a little.

Day One- Prologue

My first day of vacation technically starts the evening before I'm in WDW. After a full day of sleeping in, at 6:10PM an airport shuttle is picking me up to wisk me away to the wonderful world of LAX airport. Have any of you ever been through LAX? It is a mad house, but will be less so for me since I'm skipping the whole parking thing and getting shuttled right to the Delta area. The Spouse is eternally grateful that he doesn't have to head upstream to LA to send me off, and has been slipping me trip money for the better part of a month as a thank you. Nothing major, $5 bucks here, $5 bucks there, but it all goes into my Welsh Dragon Appreciation fund.

So I'll head up to LA in a shuttle with who knows how many people, and my direct flight to MCO leaves at 10:00PM. I'll sleep (god willing) and head into:

Day One-"You've gotten how many hours of sleep?"

My plane lands at 6:12 AM and through the Magic of DME I'll be at POP at around...?? I'm not really sure. This all depends on AM Orlando traffic, DME, and whether or not god will be testing me that day. I do know that I left (hopefully) plenty of time to get to my first ADR of the trip:

Crystal Palace- breakfast @ 9:00.
The Magic Kingdome has EMH that morning, and while I will most likely get into the park before my ADR, I'm not thinking I'll get anything done. My greatest hope is to run and score a fastpass for something, that I can use after breakfast.

Now as for the Crystal Palace. I have eaten here, I just really don't know when. It was a long time ago in the dark age they call the eighties. No wait, I'm sorry, the neon fluorescent age they call the eighties. I love breakfast so much. What other meal in the day can you get served so many different types of pig? At the same time. I never eat breakfast in WDW though... until this trip. I have 3 days of F&WF booth snacking at lunch and as such have scheduled to my bacon loving heart no more than 5 breakfasts!! At Crystal Palace I am most looking forward to having them make me my own omelette while I watch. Yes you can get an omelette any old time but... I like to watch.popcorn::

My plans for the Magic Kingdom that day aren't to expansive. I'd like to go on the Jungle Cruise (missed it last time), POTC, Country Bear Jamboree (bloooooooooooooooood on the saaaaaaddddllllllleeeeeee), and possibly BTMR. I know I won't do much because I'll have to head over to the Grand Floridian around 1:30 for my next ADR:

Gardenview Tea Room- tea time @ 2:10.
I am so excited for this. I didn't even know it existed until I started reading the Disboards. My Nana started me drinking tea when I was about 4. It's always been my favorite beverage (along with coffee, which I had to cut back on majorly). I only really drink tea (hot/cold) and love tea parties so this just an awesome idea for an ADR. I am aware that don't always give you a teapot, but I will be insisting on one. I plan to ask them what tea comes in a teapot because a french press has no place on a tea serving tablescape.

I don't know which tea service to get, so if anyone is reading this and has done a tea service at the GF please leave your opinions!:worship:

After tea I will be taxi-ing to the AKL, where I have my evening meal planned at Jiko. I want to catch the Jiko/Boma tour, so I'll have to call to confirm what time it is at (I've heard it can be at both 3:45 & 4). Then I'll tour around Jambo House, check out Kidani Village and get to my evening meal:

Jiko- dinner@ 6:20.
This is my most anticipated meal of the whole trip. The whole menu looks great to me and it will be very hard to pick an entree. I don't think I'm going to get the Oak-grilled Filet Mignon with Macaroni & Cheese and Red Wine Sauce. I know it's the signature meal, but I want to get something more... different. If anyone has any suggestions on appetizers and food here, please post with your opinions! I will eat anything except melons.

After this meal I'm sure I'll be more than ready to go to bed, so I'll head back to POP, check out my resort and probably pass out from exhaustion.:faint: It seems like a lot to do in one day (and it is) but since it's mostly just eating and wandering around hotels I think I'll be fine. That early morning burst of "OMGDISNEYWORLDMKGAHSOEXCITED!!!" will get me through until tea time, when I will relax and recharge and then surge on through to the evening.

Tomorrow- plans for day 2: The first day of EPCOT F&WF

Sounds like a great plan, Laura!:thumbsup2

Laura, your plans sound great! Breakfast at Crystal Palace is really good. They do have a yummy omelet station. And they have puffed french toast (I think that's what it's called) which I think is deep fried and coated in cinnamon sugar and sinfully delicious!

I just went to tea at the GF in August. I got the Buckingham Palace and while all the portions were small, there were several courses and it really filled me up. My tea did come in a teapot:thumbsup2 and all the food was really good.

Our tea was at 2 and then we had dinner reservations at 7:30 and I was glad they were not any earlier. Jiko is my favorite restaurant so if I were you I'd go lighter on the tea and save myself for dinner.

I know what you mean about not wanting to order the filet at Jiko. I'm sure it's great, but there are so many other interesting things on the menu there. The flatbreads are great, we had the chef's specialty last time which was artichokes, goat cheese, peppadew peppers, and some kind of sauce (if my memory serves me correctly). It was to die for! We polished off the entire thing! I've also had the Kalamata Olive flatbread which is good too. For entrees I'd highly recommend the Swahili Curry Shrimp, which is my favorite dish there. I like it so much I have a hard time not ordering it. The beef short ribs are good too -- the meat is fall off the bone and very flavorful. I've never had the halibut so I can't speak for that but my friend did last Oct and she loved it. I am going to *try* to order something different when I go this Oct -- the lamb loin on the menu sounds good but I don't see too many reviews on it. You pretty much can't go wrong with anything you order there.

If you are interested, you can ask to be seated at "The Cooking Place" which is a bar where they prepare the appetizers. It was interesting to watch and talk with the chefs and I also got to sample something. I did this when I was solo once, but I have also sat at a regular table solo.

Can't wait to hear about the rest of your plans:goodvibes

Thank you:worship: I checked the first Frendy page, but everyone was pimped bt you. I still can't get over the non-tea pot thing @ the Grand Floridian Tea. For some reason it really bugs me. And you two are quite the snappy dressers btw.:thumbsup2 Why am I always at the table next to people who look like they just got off of Kali River Rapids?:confused3

Thanks! I planned on having another update today, but... life, ya know? Tomorrow it is!

I stopped reading at puffed french toast, drooled for 5 minutes, then was able to continue. I think the filet just seems so normal too. I want excitement, adventure! Even if a jedi craves not these things, I surely do!

:cheer2:ADRs:cheer2:

Sept 26:
7:40AM- Boma New!
12:00PM- Yak & Yeti New!
6:10pM- Narcoossee's New!

We are also staying at POP though from September 22 - 28th. We are also eating at Narcoossee's on September 26. Our reservation is at 7. Maybe we will see you around.:)

I want to say thanks for the links, too! And I have always wondered why they have those french press pots as well! :sad2: We are thinking about doing the tea, too, and I will definitely ask which teas are served in a real tea pot. I must get a tea pot with a tea cosy!!! :cool1: And what is that about not serving milk! :scared1: I can't drink my tea without milk, why should it curdle? :sad2::sad2: I guess I would run off to the shop and buy my own milk!

The last time we had tea at the Grand Floridian I had the Prince Edwards Tea: (from Allears) A delicious array of duck and cherry terrine, chicken and pork roulade, country pate en croute, and , and English Blue Stilton, the "King" of English cheeses. Served with marinated fresh berries, and Cumberland sauce. We then offer our delicious fresh-baked scones served with rich Devonshire cream. Your choice of our tea with a glass of our Fonseca Bin 27 Character Port. Yumm!

I choose the Eros Tea (which is served in a teapot) - Medium bodied Ceylon: Sweet Mandarin orange with warm vanilla for a sweet, smooth and creamy finish.

Some of my tea companions choose teas that came in a tea press and the Eros was declared the winner. I enjoyed the tea so much that I have tracked it down on the internet and am willing to pay over $20 for 3oz of tea leaves.

I like your day 1 plans-eat, eat and eat some more. You'll sleep well that night, out of exhaustion and a full belly. ;)

We are also staying at POP though from September 22 - 28th. We are also eating at Narcoossee's on September 26. Our reservation is at 7. Maybe we will see you around.:)

Perhaps you will. I'll be traveling with a little Wall*E, so I'm going to be easy to spot.:thumbsup2

Teapots are just more... romantic. I don't mind a french press for coffee, but come on Disney!

Oh, that sounds lovely. I'm totally intrigued by your tea choice too. I'm going to have a harder time deciding what tea to drink than what "tea package" to get.:headache:

I like your day 1 plans-eat, eat and eat some more. You'll sleep well that night, out of exhaustion and a full belly. ;)

Yes, the sleep will come that evening, but I have to get up for a 9AM Rope Drop the next day. Usually that means I get up at 7. I might sleep in a bit (20 minutes more?) that day. It's always easy for me to get up and going in the morning, but it's later in the day I loose steam:faint:

I'll have those plans posted later when I'm able to do more than just quick comment.:goodvibes

Day Two- My Very First EPCOT F&WF

I'll be getting up around 7AM, for a 9AM rope drop at EPCOT. Early? Yes, but that's how I roll. I like to get to the turnstiles early and use that time to read, go over my trip notes, and other such things. I also don't know how crowded the POP foodcourt will be when I go to score my refillable mug.

Plans for EPCOT are: obtain Soarin FP, ride Soarin (mourn the fact that the Land is closed for repair:sad1:), the Seas, Imagination Pavillion, and check out the F&WF welcome center (and mourn the fact that the Wonders of Life pavillion is closed). I also want to browse some F&WF booths, check out the tequila bar, and explore Mexico, Norway, and China.

Lunch is that time tested favorite:

Chefs de France- lunch @ 12:00.
Not sure what I'm getting here other than the escargot. Mmmm tasty snails. Everything else is a toss up. I go here all the time, and I'm pretty sure Remy is going to be gone by this point, so I didn't schedule at a specific time.

Culinary Demo- Barcelona Tapas @ 2:45.
I did the pre register for this and this is day one for the F&WF so I suppose I'll be the guinea pig for how this all works out. The demo has both wine and food. Woo Hoo! I just don't know how early to show up for it.

At around 5:00 I'll head to DTD (possibly via the Beach Club or I'll bus to SSR and walk through to DTD- I don't mind the walk)

Raglan Road- dinner@ 6:45.
Friday night at Raglan Road is probably busy and I'm going to request to be in the main room. They once tried to seat me off in a side room and why would you do that to a solo person? I like being in the room with the music where there are things to see and do. I have no idea what I'll get here either, except for the Celtic Martini. I think I had 6 between to dinners on my last trip:lmao:- they are delish! And I know I have to get the Bread and Butter pudding. I didn't get it at all last time and I must make up for that on this trip. Bad llama!

My evening will be spent listening to Irish tunes, walking DTD, and then heading back to my hotel for sleep. There is a store in DTD called TrendyD (I think) and that seems right up my girly alley. The next morning I have to get up early for breakfast at Boma and that is why I have dinner scheduled not terribly late.

If anyone has F&WF, dining, or other suggestions please chime in.:goodvibes

Next- plans for day 3: Animal Kingdom & a bit of Magic Kingdom

Oh yes, and here is another Wall*E pic from Disneyland:

take me to your leader
09-09-1815.jpg

I think I'm going to have fun with him:goodvibes

The Celtic Sangria at Raglan Road is usually a good choice ... usually. The one I ended up with last year was a little weak, but beer and scotch made up for it later. ;)

Your touring plan sounds great! I am really looking forward to reviews on the new tequila bar in Mexico. I guess a number of the F&WF travellers will report back on that! :thumbsup2 And I thoroughly approve of your RD strategy! I am like that, too. I rather stand in front of a turnstile in the morning than sit around at my hotel! :goodvibes

What a hoot it was to spend this morning catching up with this PTR!! I loved your Next Top Mascot!! I will be at Disney just about the same time you are!! I'm really looking forward to my first ever Food and Wine!! I will definitely be following the rest of your PTR and your trip report when you return!!!

I am so interested in a scotch flight- but I'm pretty sure at the end of the day I have planned it would kick my butt too much. That's the only downer of being solo- no one to share nibbles with and get a broader range of tastes in my mouth.

I love it...they both have that same wide eyed look! :rotfl: Your touring plans sound great. I just can't wait for the reviews and all the foodie porn.

I can barely wait for my trip. I'm pleased with Wall*E's performance around DisneyLand so far, so I know he'll be great when it's cruch-time..:woohoo:

Yes! I love that practically empty bus ride to the parks in the morning. I drink my tea there and chat with other early birds.:goodvibes

I'm glad I put links on the front page to help you out. I hope you enjoy your first F&WF trip.:flower3: I can't wait for mine to start! I have DCA F&WF experiance- but it's not the same thing by a long shot.

Day Three- Animal Kingdom & Magic Kingdom (maybe hopefully)

On vacation, and I will be waking up at 6:00AM. This will be 3:00AMPST- and I dearly hope my body has adjusted by this day. I am waking up early so that I can experiance what my Dis-research has taught me just may be the best breakfast on property:

Boma- breakfast @ 7:40.
Boma opens at 7:30AM and I'll be there when it opens, so hopefully I can get seated quickly. I will be taking a taxi because it is even too early for me to be figuring out bus hopping logistics.

What is good for breakfast at Boma? I am sure everything is. I only know that anything called Pap is worth trying at least once in life.:rotfl: I look forward to the many types of piggy I can eat that morning.

Animal Kingdom Rope Drop is 9:00AM, and I feel confident that I will make it there in time, even though I have heard less than thrilling things about the AKL busses. I don't usually do a lot in the park. Last time I rode Expedition Everest about 9 times, Dinosaur 3 times, watched Festival of the Lion King, rode the Safari, ate, shopped and left. I want to ride the Rapids this time, because I haven't been on it in 7 years but I don't know what else I need to be doing.

The thing is- I don't really like animals. Well, that's not completely true. I'm totally :cheer2:Team Mammal:cheer2:. I love my cat, like dogs (little ones), find hamsters and such to be cute. I watch Animal Planet all the time and like monkeys, goats, and am particularly fond of sheep (must be my Celtic heritage) and piggies. I want to own a little piggy more than anything, but the Spouse is dead set against it. Especially now with the swine flu hubbub.

So that's all fine but nothing in the world terrifies me more than: Birds, Alligators/Crocodiles, and Fish. My number one nightmare would be a tornado filled with birds coming at me, as I'm surrounded by alligators in the desert.:scared1: I believe it's just that my mammalian survival instincts are still firmly intact from the caveman days of my ancestors. Birds and reptiles are all just left over dinosaurs. Birds are the creepiest things ever- and that is why I look forward to maybe eating ostrich at Jiko. If I can take one of those guys down, I will.:thumbsup2

And I love the ocean, but hate fish. This is mostly because of the many snorkling trips my Mother took me on- weird fish pressing up against me on all sides. I'm ok-ish around fish, they are just creepy. Birds I kind of have to deal with, because they are everywhere, but I won't stay near one. I'm totally not OK around Alligators though. I will never live in a state where an Alligator could be just chilling in your backyard.

Animal Kingdom, other than the awesome rides, is just a big old mess of :scared: to me, thanks to my animal -phobias. I might watch the Nemo show. Fake fish are OK for some reason:confused3 and I love that movie. The trails are partially interesting to me, as long as I can skip any reptile and bird stuff. If anyone has any helpful suggestions on AK activities for a bird/reptile/fish-phobic person, please let me know.:surfweb:

Now that I've outted my innermost weirdness (part of anyway), lets move on to lunch:

Yak & Yeti- lunch @ 12:00.
I've heard mixed things on this place (too much yak), but with the upgraded free dining I thought I could give it a shot. If I was paying oop I would be heading back to my one true AK love- Tusker House. I will miss you endless buffet of vegetable-y goodness:sad1:.

Has anyone had the pho at Yak & Yeti? I am a fan of pho, but I don't want to mess with it if their's is icky. I also don't want to get anything I can pick up at my local Pick-up-Stix, so I'll be looking for something exotic here. I have heard tale of a beverage called the Yak Attack, and I just may have try it.

This afternoon could be anything. I will most likely go to the MK and ride the train around taking pictures. The MK isn't that a big deal to me because DisneyLand is soooooooo much better than the MK. More rides, better versions of the rides, more shade, and easier to walk around. Still, you can't go to WDW without spending some time at the MK and I'm trying to get over my snobbiness about it and find some hidden good there.:snooty:

Narcoossee's- dinner@ 6:10.
You may have noticed over the past few updates that I like early dinners. I don't like having a lot of food in my belly when I go to bed, and usually spend my post-dining evenings walking around a lot. Or drinking around a lot. Or both.:goodvibes

This is another signature dining experiance I picked up thanks to the 21 credits I have on this trip. I love seafood, even if I hate live fish. Maybe that makes a lot of sense... I will probably get the lobster because we don't have lobsters like that out in California. We have spiney lobsters which are not the same. I don't mind looking my food in the face and I do believe that they pull most of the meat out for you already, so I won't even have to bring my own claw crackers. What, you don't travel with yours?:rolleyes1

I'd like to monorail hop at least once on the trip, and this night is a possibility for it. I want to get a LapuLapu, get a drink at the Wave bar (if possible), and try something out at the GF. If anyone has suggestions on boozing around the monorail hotels- please speak up. er... type up.:thumbsup2

Next Update- plans for day 4: Attempting to get in at Kouzzina's for breakfast, Hollywood Studios morning, and Tequila Tasting in the afternoon

and here's another Wall*E shot:

may I cut in?

Your plans sound spiffy, Laura! I like your eating places and your park plans too. We love Boma for breakfast; it is a Christmas morning tradition! And Narcoossee's is great too. I think we will eat there again in December. Never been to the Yak. Let us know what you think!

:yay: I finally caught up! Your plans sound great. I LOVE Boma & Jiko.
Oh...and ANTM premieres tonight- 2 full hours!!! I'm hooked on that show because I love the photos at the end. I missed my calling as a fashion photographer.

What a great update Laura!! Your Day 3 dining looks amazing!!! Now I have eaten at Yak and Yeti before and I have to tell you I will be returning for one thing and that is the dessert...the FRIED WONTONS...one of the best desserts on property...I would highly recommend that dessert when you are there!!!

Can't wait to read about your Day 4 plans!!!

Someday I'll get to be at WDW for Christmas.:cloud9: It seems like Yak & Yeti gets skipped over a bit, so I'll be glad to check it out.

Yay ANTM! It's the shorties season- but I would still be too short to apply.:rotfl:

Fried Wontons? That sounds amazing! I appreciate the recommendations and am glad you are liking things so far. :flower3:

:cool1:Today I am doing the 2 weeks dance.:cool1:

Day Four- one tequila, two tequila...

Once again I will be heading out my hotel for an early breakfast:

Captain's Grille- breakfast @ 7:30.
I scheduled this back on my 90 day mark because I had a Hollywood Studios morning planned. What I really wanted was to dine at Kouzzina, but the restaurant wasn't taking ADRs at that point. Then when it was taking ADRs I called in and cast members couldn't get me one. I chalk this up more to the cast member's skill level and knowledge than anything else. Two of the them even told me there was no Kouzzina.:headache:

So what I plan on doing is grabbing a taxi to the Boardwalk and seeing if they can seat me when the open. I don't anticipate an issue at 7:30AM. If they can't, then I'll go over to the Captain's Grille as planned. (And yes, if I get into Kouzzina I will call to cancel my Captain's Grille ADR:thumbsup2). If I have to eat at Captain's Grille I will. The menu seems OK but I haven't heard anything fantastic about it.

Hollywood Studios has a Rope Drop at 9:00AM. My usual plan is get a TSM FP, ride TSM, ride ToT, ride RNR, use TSM FP and then do whatever.

I'll leave HS at around 12-1 so that I can snack my way around EPCOT. This is the first day I have scheduled to eat around the world and for me this is the whole reason why I booked the trip.:cloud9: I have no idea what booths will be good or what will be bad. I'll be going for the more exotic things for sure.

Presentation- Tequila Tasting@ 3:00.
I have been reading every thing on these boards about the new Cava de Tequila. I am super excited for this!

I get to spend my early evening in EPCOT because it's just a short walk to the Boardwalk for diner:

Flying Fish- dinner@ 5:55.
My favorite signature restaurant. I know what I'll be eating here: potato wrapped snapper. I will possibly get a crabcake for my starter, who knows.

After dinner I'm going to walk off my meal walking around the EPCOT resorts. I might go to Jellyrolls this night, depending on how tired I am. I love Jellyrolls and have it planned for a later night this trip, but if I can squeeze in two visits I will.

Next- plans for day 5: More EPCOT F&WF fun

And yet more of Wall*E making friends:

Grin and bear it.
