The Feast of Fools! back from WDW- be on the look out for trip report

It was always Wall-e's to win or lose. He's the complete package. I'm sure he and Eve celebrated with a little something from their pizza plant back at the storage container. :)

Awesome. Wall-E rocks...

but, I dare say Brenda, of the Bendy fame, was gifted the ultimate Foodie Mascot last year...

Yes, my friends, they have in their possession an authentic, gen-u-ine Ingestible Bulk Homer. :thumbsup2 (compliments of yours truly)

Heh, heh. BTW, you have a very fine TR going here! :surfweb:

Cheers!

P.S. Behold the Simpson's shrine...

:yay: Way to go Wall-E! I'm excited for the rest of your PTR and TR!

I'm excited too!

Woohoo....Wall-E for the win!

The best part is you never have to share your F&WF snackies with a robot.

Who knew a robot would emote so well?:confused3

Well you initially pimped me, so hi-jack away! I love the idea of your mascot. If you did a contest he would have chewed up the competition!:lmao:

Way to go Wall-E! :woohoo::woohoo:

Looking forward to the rest of your report:thumbsup2

Yay for Wall*E. I'm glad people are happy, since all the early favorites got elminated.

Before we get started I just wanted to say that this vacation is an exercise in me not trying to over plan things. I still know what I want to do, and approximately when, but I'm not putting it all down on a touringplan like I did last time. I think at F&WF I need to be a little more free with my plans... but only a little.

Day One- Prologue

My first day of vacation technically starts the evening before I'm in WDW. After a full day of sleeping in, at 6:10PM an airport shuttle is picking me up to wisk me away to the wonderful world of LAX airport. Have any of you ever been through LAX? It is a mad house, but will be less so for me since I'm skipping the whole parking thing and getting shuttled right to the Delta area. The Spouse is eternally grateful that he doesn't have to head upstream to LA to send me off, and has been slipping me trip money for the better part of a month as a thank you. Nothing major, $5 bucks here, $5 bucks there, but it all goes into my Welsh Dragon Appreciation fund.

So I'll head up to LA in a shuttle with who knows how many people, and my direct flight to MCO leaves at 10:00PM. I'll sleep (god willing) and head into:

Day One-"You've gotten how many hours of sleep?"

My plane lands at 6:12 AM and through the Magic of DME I'll be at POP at around...?? I'm not really sure. This all depends on AM Orlando traffic, DME, and whether or not god will be testing me that day. I do know that I left (hopefully) plenty of time to get to my first ADR of the trip:

Crystal Palace- breakfast @ 9:00.
The Magic Kingdome has EMH that morning, and while I will most likely get into the park before my ADR, I'm not thinking I'll get anything done. My greatest hope is to run and score a fastpass for something, that I can use after breakfast.

Now as for the Crystal Palace. I have eaten here, I just really don't know when. It was a long time ago in the dark age they call the eighties. No wait, I'm sorry, the neon fluorescent age they call the eighties. I love breakfast so much. What other meal in the day can you get served so many different types of pig? At the same time. I never eat breakfast in WDW though... until this trip. I have 3 days of F&WF booth snacking at lunch and as such have scheduled to my bacon loving heart no more than 5 breakfasts!! At Crystal Palace I am most looking forward to having them make me my own omelette while I watch. Yes you can get an omelette any old time but... I like to watch.popcorn::

My plans for the Magic Kingdom that day aren't to expansive. I'd like to go on the Jungle Cruise (missed it last time), POTC, Country Bear Jamboree (bloooooooooooooooood on the saaaaaaddddllllllleeeeeee), and possibly BTMR. I know I won't do much because I'll have to head over to the Grand Floridian around 1:30 for my next ADR:

Gardenview Tea Room- tea time @ 2:10.
I am so excited for this. I didn't even know it existed until I started reading the Disboards. My Nana started me drinking tea when I was about 4. It's always been my favorite beverage (along with coffee, which I had to cut back on majorly). I only really drink tea (hot/cold) and love tea parties so this just an awesome idea for an ADR. I am aware that don't always give you a teapot, but I will be insisting on one. I plan to ask them what tea comes in a teapot because a french press has no place on a tea serving tablescape.

I don't know which tea service to get, so if anyone is reading this and has done a tea service at the GF please leave your opinions!:worship:

After tea I will be taxi-ing to the AKL, where I have my evening meal planned at Jiko. I want to catch the Jiko/Boma tour, so I'll have to call to confirm what time it is at (I've heard it can be at both 3:45 & 4). Then I'll tour around Jambo House, check out Kidani Village and get to my evening meal:

Jiko- dinner@ 6:20.
This is my most anticipated meal of the whole trip. The whole menu looks great to me and it will be very hard to pick an entree. I don't think I'm going to get the Oak-grilled Filet Mignon with Macaroni & Cheese and Red Wine Sauce. I know it's the signature meal, but I want to get something more... different. If anyone has any suggestions on appetizers and food here, please post with your opinions! I will eat anything except melons.

After this meal I'm sure I'll be more than ready to go to bed, so I'll head back to POP, check out my resort and probably pass out from exhaustion.:faint: It seems like a lot to do in one day (and it is) but since it's mostly just eating and wandering around hotels I think I'll be fine. That early morning burst of "OMGDISNEYWORLDMKGAHSOEXCITED!!!" will get me through until tea time, when I will relax and recharge and then surge on through to the evening.

Tomorrow- plans for day 2: The first day of EPCOT F&WF

I did the tea. I loved it! I had the Mad Hatter (I think) and it was served in a tea pot! I have a review under my February Dining Reviews. We did the full sandwiches, scones, pastries, etc. It was a lot of food, much more than I expected. I think it would depend on how hungry you are when you sit down, I mean, I wouldn't ruin my dinner at Jiko for some sandwiches in the tea room (for some pastries of course...but not sandwiches!)

Thanks! I checked out your review. How nice to have a multi-generational tea:grouphug:. I'm thinking maybe I'll go ala carte. I saw they have that option on all-ears.net. I'm totally weird and would get sandwiches over dessert though.:lmao: The scone would be my dessert.

The items at JIKO that we've had and can recommend are BBQ Chicken flatbread, the Short Rib entree and the Scallop entree. I'm like you, I didn't want the signature filet. I wanted to be adventurous and in fact my first choice would have been the maize crusted halibut but the menu had changed to cod for that dish and my waitress suggested the short ribs instead and am I glad she did...OMG to die for dish!!! We also loved the pistachio creme brulee.

Afternoon tea ... a perennial favorite. :thumbsup2 Usually Jay and I like to order the Grand Tea because it comes with a glass of champagne but last year we tried the Buckingham Palace Tea ... still comes with the sandwiches, scone and tart, and a truly sinful bowl of strawberries and cream (or you can take a couple of tea pastries but they pale in comparison to the bowl o'berries).

Jiko ... I loved their cheese plate the last time we were there - it was a wonderful assortment of five different cheeses and it included sheep, cow, and goats milk cheeses. Nice variety and oh-so-tasty. Jay has ordered the Taste of Africa which is different dipping sauces and a whole lotta breads to dip and or slather with said sauces - he loved it. We've also tried their Kenyan BBQ pizza ... it was good but a little too saucy for my delicate digestive system.

Entrees ... I admit that I always order the filet and mac/cheese but in the past Jay tried a firey scallop dish which is no longer on the menu and I think a spicy shrimp dish that's also been done away with.

Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with much at Jiko - great food. And be sure to try a glass of wine - they have a great selection of South African wines.

thanks for the recommendations! The Maize Crusted Halibut totally caugh my eye, as did the scallops- but the scallops aren't on the menu anymore, which totally bummed me out. There's also a curry shrimp dish... so many foods, only one little belly.

I can absolutely understand your sentiment about the filet at Jiko. That's the reason why I never ordered it. Actually I love the maize crusted halibut, I had it in 2007 and 2008 and it was wonderful. I reviewed it here: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=30589736&postcount=87

I read your review just now, it was great and very helpful:thumbsup2 The pictures looked great and I'm leaning toward the halibut or curry shrimp right about now. ... But who know what the belly will want in WDW?

I'm thinking Grand tea myself. I know it's a lot, but I'll be hungry and my meal is a bit later. I also added things up ala carte and it makes more sense to get it all together. I might have to go without a bowl of strawberries though, I had an allergic reaction to plain strawberries twice in the past month. Suddenly in my late 20s I'm becoming alergic to tasty fruits!:headache:

And I like spicy foods (cast iron belly as they say), and they did have the curry shrimp still listed on the disneyworld.com website which looked good to me. I'll have to go back and look for your reviews to get a picture of what it looks like. Thank goodness for the Dis so that I can over plan my meals of the day.:worship:
