Yay Wall-E!
I agree![]()
Way to go Wall-E! I'm excited for the rest of your PTR and TR!
Woohoo....Wall-E for the win!
It was always Wall-e's to win or lose. He's the complete package. I'm sure he and Eve celebrated with a little something from their pizza plant back at the storage container.![]()
Awesome. Wall-E rocks...
but, I dare say Brenda, of the Bendy fame, was gifted the ultimate Foodie Mascot last year...

Yes, my friends, they have in their possession an authentic, gen-u-ine Ingestible Bulk Homer.(compliments of yours truly)
Heh, heh. BTW, you have a very fine TR going here!
Cheers!

I did the tea. I loved it! I had the Mad Hatter (I think) and it was served in a tea pot! I have a review under my February Dining Reviews. We did the full sandwiches, scones, pastries, etc. It was a lot of food, much more than I expected. I think it would depend on how hungry you are when you sit down, I mean, I wouldn't ruin my dinner at Jiko for some sandwiches in the tea room (for some pastries of course...but not sandwiches!)
The items at JIKO that we've had and can recommend are BBQ Chicken flatbread, the Short Rib entree and the Scallop entree. I'm like you, I didn't want the signature filet. I wanted to be adventurous and in fact my first choice would have been the maize crusted halibut but the menu had changed to cod for that dish and my waitress suggested the short ribs instead and am I glad she did...OMG to die for dish!!! We also loved the pistachio creme brulee.
I can absolutely understand your sentiment about the filet at Jiko. That's the reason why I never ordered it. Actually I love the maize crusted halibut, I had it in 2007 and 2008 and it was wonderful. I reviewed it here: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=30589736&postcount=87
Afternoon tea ... a perennial favorite.Usually Jay and I like to order the Grand Tea because it comes with a glass of champagne but last year we tried the Buckingham Palace Tea ... still comes with the sandwiches, scone and tart, and a truly sinful bowl of strawberries and cream (or you can take a couple of tea pastries but they pale in comparison to the bowl o'berries).
Jiko ... I loved their cheese plate the last time we were there - it was a wonderful assortment of five different cheeses and it included sheep, cow, and goats milk cheeses. Nice variety and oh-so-tasty. Jay has ordered the Taste of Africa which is different dipping sauces and a whole lotta breads to dip and or slather with said sauces - he loved it. We've also tried their Kenyan BBQ pizza ... it was good but a little too saucy for my delicate digestive system.
Entrees ... I admit that I always order the filet and mac/cheese but in the past Jay tried a firey scallop dish which is no longer on the menu and I think a spicy shrimp dish that's also been done away with.
Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with much at Jiko - great food. And be sure to try a glass of wine - they have a great selection of South African wines.
