Ash Wednesday and Lent aren't big things for us in our Presbyterian household, so it is still just 40 days until Easter.
One of the reasons I love Easter is because it's such a relaxed holiday. No big hoopla, normally at my mom's, just me and my boys, my parents, my nana, and my fil.
This year, however, DH wanted to go to his mother's. Long story short, I offered to have everyone come up here. I don't want to get into particulars, but the way it is at my MIL's house is just not my idea of relaxing, or a family holiday, and there are certain things that happen that I'd prefer not to have my son exposed to.
Never mind the fact that it's been over TWO years since my MIL has driven up here. Now, I'm not complaining about that, because it can be stressful, but at the same time, come one. We're a family, and I'd love to have my nieces up here for Easter, plan an egg (plastic maybe since they're litter than my DS) hunt, do a nice brunch, just have a nice family time. You know?
So I've voiced my opinions to DH and he gets the honor of inviting everyone. God bless him. I know this will go over like a ton of bricks.
Now St. Patrick's Day is a big deal at our house, but there isn't a lot of preparation for that besides cooking. It does sound like you are going to be keeping busy, TK.
You know how you have elves that visit your house every Christmas? I was reading in Family Fun the other day where some people have leprechauns leave surprises for their kids starting in March and leading up to St. Patty's Day. It's sort of the same concept, excpet you never see the leprechauns, just their mischief.
St. Patty's Day.....ahhhh the memories. Back in the day we used to go to our Favorite Mexician restaurant watering hole and drink green beer. And they had an auction for MDA every year that night. We'd get drunk and spend way too much money because it was for "charity"!
What a great memory!
Honestly, I've never gotten drunk on St. Patrick's Day. Actually, in all honesty, I have very rarely in my life been drunk. Well...you know what I mean. I mean staggering drunk.
TK- care to share what you are giving up for Lent?
Every year, DH and I give up soda. I'm a diet caf-free Pepsi freak, and he loves regular Pepsi. I know it doesn't seem like a lot, but it really is an integral part of our "diet" and acts as stress relief for me, so I feel it is a worthy sacrifice.
Although compared to someone giving their life for us, there's not much you can give up that really fits the bill.
At our house we always make corned beef and cabbage on St. Patty's day and we have green milkshakes for dessert...YAY!! I can't wait!!!
Green milkshakes sounds like so much fun! I think it was Tink who told me she had a recipe for corned beef and cabbage in the crock pot. I'll have to ask her for that again.
I am so all about my crockpot lately. Some of the recipes I've tried have been duds, but I've gotten some good ones, and they've become part of our meal rotation, so to speak. It's so nice to throw things in there and not think about it again.
I hope all of you that aren't feeling well get better soon! I'm fighting off a nasty head cold but after a good night's sleep I'm feeling much better!!!!
Oh, hon, I hope you feel better soon, too. That cold virus that's going around is a doozy! DS and I are both on antibiotics now, because ours turned into nasty other stuff. I hope that doesn't happen to you.
