The Everything Pooh Sized Thread

We're going in June too and I'm worried about mine train and Kali river Rapids! I'm a size 24, about 275. EEEEEK!

I'm the same size and weight as you and had no problems on mine train. I didn't ride Kali, so can't help you there. But for mine train, the only annoying part was that the seats are contoured for someone smaller so you can feel that you're kind of over the seat. But I wouldn't even say it was uncomfortable. Just something I noticed.

Hiiiii guys! I made my own forum thread about this when I first joined, a few months ago...but I'd like to ask it here as well, just in case anyone has had any personal experience with it!

I desperately want to do the kimono fitting experience in the Mitsukoshi Department Store in Japan at EPCOT. In previous years I have been a size 24 and I knew that it was probably out of my reach....this year, I've lost 100 lbs and am in a 16 (and still shrinking). I am a very anxious and sensitive person and it would probably devastate me to try and get fitted for a kimono only to have them tell me there are none large enough for me :sad1: so, that being said, does anyone have any experience or input about the kimono sizing? I just wanted to be reassured, as it is something I have wanted to do for many years now!

Thanks!!! :teeth:

I had no idea that they did this there! Awesome! My husband and I went on our honeymoon in Japan. While there we had a photo session where he was turned into a samurai and I wore the traditional Japanese makeup/hair/kimono. At the time I was probably a size 20 or 22? I tend to carry my weight in my stomach and chest, not my legs or bottom to give you an idea. The ways the kimonos work, I had not problem being sized with an outfit since they are adjustable. Given that Disney seems "pooh sized" friendly, I would bet that the store is prepared for larger customers. At a size 16, I sincerely doubt you will have any problems. Have fun! :D

Here's a suggestion for the Pooh-sized guys out there going into the World in the heat. Check out Duluth Trading Company. They have stores in MN and WI but they also have an extensive website. What I like about them is that, for starters, that have clothes going up to 3X and 4X, and the sizing typically runs generous. It is the first store that I have walked into where I could fit into everything that I liked! Additionally they have several lines of clothes designed for folks that work out in the heat all day so they should work really well at WDW. The Armachillo Flex shirt is great in that it has cooling properties, its a little stretchy, and it feels like you aren't wearing anything it is so lightweight. They also have a Women's line but I can't speak to the sizing. (PS-I have no connection to Duluth Trading Co. other than I have spent over $1000 there over the last year)

It's down to the wire! We leave for Disney in less than a week. Feeling much better since reading all the experience on this board. I think I'll try to ride everything except sum of all thrills, and I may skip Kali and splash mountain to avoid walking around wet all day. Think I'll even do mine train and pray all the way through the line! Lol ;) now, I'm more worried about the airplane than the rides at Disney

I'm so excited for you! I wouldn't be able to sleep all week! Don't worry about the rides, everything will go just fine...thousands of people ride those rides every day with no problem, every size and shape! just wear some light weight shorts and shirt, you will dry in no time! don't miss Kali...you may need to cool off! lol I know I look forward to it and I hate walking around wet! with the airplane ride, it is what it is. Don't let it bother you, you will be fine!
Have a FANTASTIC trip and I look forward to hearing all about your trip!

Happy to find this thread! We are taking our son for the first time in October! I haven't been since 2004 and have gained around 100 lbs since then :scared1: I am a size 28+. I'm most worried about the HP ride in UIOA. I'm sure someone on here has talked about it. I need to read all the posts on this thread. So glad it's here!

I have a friend who was turned away from the Harry Potter ride at universal. She's short and carries all her weight around the middle tho. :/ I don't think universal is nearly as accompanying as Disney, from what I've heard.

Universal is not Pooh sized friendly. I am 6'4" with a 54 inch waist and I was not able to ride any of the Harry Potter rides. They have some test seats near the entrance to a lot of the rides so you can check before you try to get on.

The seats at the 7Dwarves Mine Train sure are small! I'm 5'4 and a size 22-24, and it was a tight squeeze. My upper body and stomach were fine, but the thigh/leg area is tight. My legs get squished together, but technically I fit safely. I've been in carnival rides that are much much tighter. It's a short ride, so I didn't mind. But they definitely could have added a few inches of tight room!

Also: I fit just fine on the Harry Potter ride when I went during grad bash. That was over 3 years ago, but I haven't changed size since then. If anything, I think I'm a bit thinner now.

I am not really counting on being able to do the Harry Potter rides, but will try the test seats. I'm not a HP fan anyway, but just thought the rides looked fun. Now, 7DMT I would be sad to miss :( And unfortunately I am big in the hips/thighs/rear, which sounds like that is where the problems come in. I am going to do the dining chair legs test someone talked about on here, LOL.

Does anyone have any ideas for a simple, inexpensive plus size costume for MNSSHP? I would like to be festive, but have enough trouble getting on/off rides that I don't want some costume making it worse! I may end up just wearing a Halloween shirt, but would love to do something a little more involved if possible.

I made mine for mnsshp in 2013, i went as Minnie. I made a red tulle skirt like what people wear for the run Disney things (real easy, you just sew a piece of elastic then tie on the tulle to the elastic), then I hot glued on little white Pom poms. I wore a black tshirt & black stretch shorts underneath. Then I bought a cute Minnie ears head band. It was not a hot costume to wear & very easy to make.

See my costume above, this was from a few pages back. Very easy to make, very cool to wear on hot nights.

What's the dining chair leg test?

Measure the distance between legs of a dining chair or barstool. On 7dmt you have to fit your legs, I think just past the knee, into a space of 13 and 1/2 inches which is the width of the safety bar. Many chairs have legs this distance apart.

So if you can sit fitting your legs squished together in a dining chair you should be able to fit on 7dmt?

Supposedly. I will test the theory next week. I have pretty large thighs that I can uncomfotably squeeze in that space. The real test will be seeing if my large bottom will fit in a seat lol.

this thread has been a fantastic resource. thank you to everyone for contributing.

my mom is a pooh sized gal, and we are planning a family trip next year. the last time she was at disney was 2011, and she put up a brave face, but i know it was hard for her to step up to each ride and wonder "can i do this?"

this thread has done wonders to ease her anxiety and let her focus on the fun. thank you!
