The Everything DISNEYLAND Thread!

@ Jon03- I am not an expert on all the variation of DL GAC's BUT I belive there is assistance they could offer you. I believe one variation of GAC assistance is to be given a "set return time" at which you are prioritized to get on. That might work, on about half the attractions, where most of your wait would be in shaded areas. IF I understand how I have OBSERVED others using it- they going up to a ride and would be given a written return time- then they are taken via wheelchair access line and put on the next available ride. It's not the same as "front of the line" but most of the loading areas for rides are the most shaded and/or inside areas.

What KP said about most of the lines being in the sun is true- sort of- For instance, you will wait in the sun at, even in the HA access lines:Just about all of toontown (though Roger Rabbit does have an inside queue) Small World, Toontown stuff, Dumbo, Casey Jr Train, Storybook, TeaCups, Mr Toad's (though you could cram a child just up to the yellow line and they would be mostly shaded). Alice would be partially shaded if waiting in the HA line, so would Peter Pan/Pinnochio/Snow White. The thing is, they can only take ONE wheelchair/stroller in the HA access area at at time. So you could be waiting outside BUT you could almost always find shady areas next to the buildings.

Personally I did not like the "rule of 6" with a GAC being a hard, fast rule. Case in point, my parents did a trip to DLR with their grandkids- all 5 of them. At the time was my 4 yr old twins (one of which has CP), another 4 yr old, and 9 yr old, and a 12 year old. That made the party size 7, and I was pretty disappointed that DL wouldn't give them the OK to have 7 instead of 6. Especially given how seating w/big people/little kids had to work out. I also know a family in my multiples club that has quads, plus a daughter a year and a half older. Again, 7 in their family including 5 LITTLE kids, which can become definite safety issues in managing loading/unloading and where you need all hands on deck (ie both parents). Additionally- splitting of parties CAN actually work against CM's/rides in a certain sense, if you have small HA entrance area, and part of the party (the GAC party) is being "held" to wait for the "rest" of the crew in the regular line to catch up.

Re: Tangled Meet N Greet. I agree, set up is sloppy. We too were told no wheelchairs (and no stroller as wheelchair) in the line. Ok, fine, but then was also told no "wheelchair" entrance. Ummm. OK? BUT the CM had us go up to the front and wait off to the side of the entrance door. It worked ok, as no other WC/HA parties came up. I am wondering if they wouldn't be better served by having "return" time cards, w/return times every 20 minutes or so. That would be a fairly easy work around.

I tend to travel DL solo, so I am really quite stuck when it comes to waiting in lines. there are sometimes ways to wait in the shade, but I was a little stuck since its just me in the parks.

They do try to cover queues as much as possible, but for some rides like BTMRR, there is no way to avoid the sun at all. There are some times where it will be possible to have someone from the party in line and the others wait in the shade and join when that person gets close to the front. Always tell the CM manning the wheelchair line you are doing this, though, to help them plan.

As to the "return time" GAC, I have never seen that one in action, but I can ask around to see if it exists. I know they tested something like that at one point and it went badly (too complicated). If you have seen people entering by the FP or exit lines with a white piece of paper in hand, that is entirely unrelated to the GAC process. These people are also required to wait in the line with the wheelchairs and GAC users.

We know there are changes in the works, so I will be interested to see how this plays out.
