The Everything and Nothing Thread

okay I think I need to go to sleep early tonight because I read T*Bird's post about not living on the Vegas Strip and I thought she said that she used to STRIP IN VEGAS-- I thought that was her True Confession Thursday!!!

"ANd now ladies and gentlemen, as a special for you all the way from the bayou.... T*Bird!!!!!"

I swear I read things wrong all the time. I'm soooooo blonde.:rotfl:

Thanks for the coffee and buns Autumn. I didn't get them until this afternoon, but it's never too late for Hot Buns. :woohoo:Love your Cheese Doodle. He's so fluffy.:lovestruc Glad you are happily flea free.:)

I no longer live in CHarleston-- but was raised there and my parents and inlaws still live there so we get home a few times a year. Charleston will always be home to me.

So let's see....... True Confession................... huuuuuummmmmmmm.......
I was once in People Magazine unknowingly b/c I was standing behind Shania Twain as she stood on stage at the NBC morning news concerts. I didn't know I was in it until I saw it on the news stands as I was shopping at Wegman's and started yelling--- "That's MEEEEEEE! I'm in People Magazzziiiiiiiiineeeeee!"
Yeah- I got a few stares that day.

Off to cook--- again. I'm having Shrimp Creole. :cloud9: yum.

have a good night Sweets!!!

Boy, I'm off the computer for a few hours and everyone is passing judgment on my night job!

Yes, if you're ever in Vegas, check me out! Look for the big neon sign: T*Bird, now appearing at the Flamingo!!

That's so neat that you found yourself in People magazine! People doesn't usually cover my particular type of "entertainment". ;)

Mmmm........shrimp creole! Did you bring back some south Carolina shrimp when you visited home? I haven't tried to buy shrimp lately. We still have some in our freezer, but I don't know if you can find them easily here now because of the oil spill. :sad1:

Okay. Where is everyone?:dance3:

I'm home from work, just finished dinner and am about to start reading for a bit before SYTYCD starts and put in a load of laundry. I'm working on the Outlander series, has anyone here read them? So good!:thumbsup2 Then it's a workout at 10:00, a shower at 11:00 and then I'm going to try to get to bed before midnight.

Anyone exciting evening plans out there?

:rotfl2::rotfl::rotfl2::rotfl:

Teri... do you have another confession for us?:lmao:

I'm DVR'ing SYTYCD while my DH watches the Saints pre-season game. But he just went to bed, so I'll go catch up on iy in a minute.

I don't know how you manage to do a workout at 10:00! Now that takes dedication. :thumbsup2

No more confessions from me tonight. I guess you all know my vices now. ;)

And now I'm picturing Teri stripping/pole dancing to Beauty School Dropout from Grease (darn those T-Birds). So I can see Frankie Avalon singing as the clothes are dropping...

Are those Outlander books the romance novels involving time travel? I read the first one 20 years ago when I went through the romance novel phase. I consume books and go through phases of what types of book I read. I got my kindle the first week of May and I've now completed 29 books on it. My current passion is the culture in India.

You will hear Fresno mentioned as the butt of jokes in many movies or TV shows. Yes, it's that bad.

The clothes wouldn't be the only things dropping......the audience would be keeling over! :rotfl2:

I'm kind of ashamed to admit that my current passion is SYTYCD. :guilty: Well, dance is culture, so I guess it's not that bad. ;)

Pakey: Have you read Secret Daughter? I LOVED it. And yes, those are the same Outlander books! I'm trying to get through as many fluffy romance books as I can before classes start up again and all my reading becomes textbook and research reading.

Teri: Oh, you have me laughing. Next time I'm in Vegas, I'll keep an eye out!

I don't think the late workout as dedication as much as they are really the only time I have in my day to fit them in! Plus I'm a night/evening person so I have lots of energy at that time.

Okay. I may be a night person but I have another early morning tomorrow so this is it for me.

And it's 12:17 here soooo... it is officially FRIDAY!:woohoo::yay::cool1:

Hi Ev/Nots!! Welcome to the Weekend!! :cool1:

Plans? We're doing the local county fair. We go for the junk food.

Oh I wish we had a decent county fair; I used to love attending. Fresno has their fair in October but there are as many law enforcement people as there are citizens to watch over all of the gang members who are there. It's a rough crowd. I think even vampires would be afraid to attend at night.

Wow, Faith, that's a tough crowd!

I would take it as a bad omen that a noisy crow woke me up on Friday the 13th, except it's the same noisy crow that wakes me up every ding dang day. It's a tag team chorus with one of the neighbor's hens that thinks she's a rooster. I live near the center of a large metropolitan area and get woken up by a chicken with confused gender identity.

We're leaving Sunday to go visit Cam up on San Juan Island, and I can't wait to see her! We'll be trading high 90s/low100s for temps in the 70s. Thank goodness, since we'll be staying in our tent right on the farm. Cam says we'll be especially welcome if we bring some of my husband's home brewed beer. Doesn't it figure that he loves to brew and I don't even like beer!

I wish you all good luck today!
Joan

Pakey, maybe one summer you should travel to Buffalo & enjoy ours. It is America's 3rd largest county fair and it's pretty big. Large midway with rides & games, multiple buildings with vendors selling everything under the sun, fire dept. demos, craft competitions, a history display building, a Native American village & of course all the farm animal, produce & equipment displays & cometitions. As far as food, anything you can think of, especiallly the unhealthy stuff!! There are concerts and demolition derby's. Lasts 12 days.

It's such a big deal here, all the local TV stations do weather or daily reports. No gang problems, but the people watching is fun too.

Joan, forgot about Friday the 13th. Guess it's good that I'm hanging at home without a lot of plans. Have a great visit with your daughter! :)

Thanks, Sandee! Have fun at the fair - eat some cotton candy for me!

Joan

P.S. Is it too soon to start packing?! :yay:

I'm a last minute packer myself. DH gets annoyed when I'm finishing up at 11PM the night before we leave.

And am I the only one who irons our shorts & shirts before we pack? :rotfl:

Who am I kidding - I don't own enough warm weather clothes to pack more than a day ahead!

Focus, I'm not too far away from you- I want to come to the fair!:cool1: It would only be a 3 hour drive and I have no plans this weekend. Mmmm I could go for some funnel cakes and corn dogs. We have the CNE coming up soon in Toronto though and I can't wait for the ice cream waffles and beaver tails!!

Joan- it is NEVER too early to start packing for a Disney trip!

Pakey- Sounds scary! I've never thought of California like that, either. I always picture beaches and palm trees and surfing and fancy cars. Oh, and In-N-Out burger!

OK, next year I'm flying east to go to a real county fair. It sounds amazing.

I am a last minute packer for sure. And I don't even own an iron, would not know how to use one even if I had one. I'm no domestic goddess.

Fresno is very hot, dirty, smoggy. We would be a desert if everything wasn't irrigated. There is a lot of agriculture here so the average median income is very low. There is a very high crime rate and gangs are a huge problem. As a result, nothing nice ever sticks here. Fresno/Clovis has a population of 600,000 but the entertainment options are about the same of a town of 50,000. The museum closed down last year, the zoo is always on the verge of bankruptcy (and I'm not sure how safe it is because it's located in the worst part of town--I wouldn't even drive there), concerts are either country/western or latino music. If we want a nice dinner, we fly to Las Vegas!

No weekend plans. Maybe I'll finish that China scrapbook so I clean up that mess in the breakfast area.

Is a beaver tail a type of food?

I'm sure it is in Vegas. Maybe we should refer to Teri for her professional input......:rolleyes1

:lmao:

we have a county fair here next week. It's been 103 degrees all week with no sign of letting up. They'll be judging the Best in Show Hogs and heifers and such without me. Too dang HOT.

Going out to dinner tonight with DH for our weekly date night--- tomorrow is his bday so cake and such then with the kids.

Not much else going on......

Hope all is well.

LMBO!:rotfl2::lmao:

Here, beaver tails are a fried dough pastry with all sorts of different toppings. My favourite is the cinnamon and sugar. They are soooo good.

They're not too pretty but they're delicious.

Pakey, thanks for telling us about Fresno! I really had no idea, but it's fascinating to hear about the city because here in Canada at least, you never really hear about parts of California like that. You must be looking forward to living someplace new when you retire!

Jo- have fun on your date night!! And happy early birthday to your DH!

I'm not touching that one with a 10-foot pole! :rotfl2:

Have a nice dinner with the birthday boy! :thumbsup2

DH and I took DD to dinner tonight for her birthday, which was last Friday. But she couldn't come home until this weekend, so we celebrated late. 26 years old!! How is that possible when I'm only 39? ;) Of course, in today's world, that's not unheard of, I guess.

DS moved alot of his things into his new apt. yesterday, and the rest this weekend. He....doesn't....need....his....mom's....help. I don't know whether to rejoice or cry! I was planning to clean and line all of his cabinets. It seems 22 year old boys don't find that important! Who knew? The apt. looked very clean (stove, frig, bathroom) but I sure wanted to get in and Lysol it myself. Kind of like a Disney resort room! :crazy2:

I'm not sure if we're doing anything the rest of the weekend. I'll just go with the flow!

Sandee, the county fair sure sounds like fun! We have a State Fair here in November, but it's mostly rides and games run by scary-looking people. There are no competitions like cooking or animals, etc. I think that would be a lot more fun, like an old-fashioned fair. I hope your weather is great for the fair!

Joan, so your day has finally come when you get to see your DD!:lovestruc I know you miss her! Have fun at San Juan Island (which I now know the location of, thank you ;)) and think of us sweltering down here when you're enjoying the 70's. Maybe you can take some pictures and share them on Wednesday photo day. :) About the packing/ironing thing: I used to iron everything beforehand. But now I don't iron a thing until I'm in the hotel room getting dressed.

Faith, you make about as good of a city promoter as I do! I sound the same way when I talk about New Orleans. I don't think either of us will be hired by the Chamber of Commerce. ;) I am actually surprised at your description of Fresno. I don't equate Fresno with gangs. LA maybe, but not Fresno. So are you a Blood or Crips?

Meg, maybe you don't call it dedication to work out late at night, but I do! You're dedicated because I think most people would be too tired after a long day to make themselves do a workout at 10:00. Don't sell yourself short! Question: What is the CNE? I assume the "C" is for Canada. :confused3 So.....what did you think about SYTYCD? I know you wanted Robert to win, but did you like the show? I thought it was awesome! I loved seeing all the best dances of the season.

Happy weekend to everyone else!

Teri- I would want to get in there with a can of Lysol too! How is your son's health doing, by the way? Has he had any follow up results from the doctor? I've been keeping him in my thoughts!

Yep, the CNE is the Canadian National Exhibition. It's basically a giant fair that's been going on for 130 years in the middle of downtown Toronto. It's a lot of fun!

I loved the show last night! I was really happy that Lauren won, I do think she deserved it and I am very impressed with her- especially for a dancer so young! I really wished they had shown the Lauren/Kent prom contemporary number but I enjoyed the show and loved Ellen's performance!:rotfl:

And thanks! I appreciate your kind words!
