I love the thought of a Dyson but at that cost....not a chance. I know you get what you pay for but it is not in the cards right now.

After doing lots of looking and reading and checking out the Good Housekeeping seal of approval list I am looking at a Hoover Savvy. It claims to be good for pet hair, have a long lasting filter, it can be used with or with out a bag and has a double suction action of some sort.

My question is does anyone have one? Does it work on bare floors? Are the attachments easy to get at and use? If anyone has info.....thank you.

Not sure if this helps- but if you have a Big Lots near you, mine has the Yellow Dyson- factory refurbished, with warranty- for 279.00. I dont know much about dysons as i have hardwood in every room except the bathroom, so I've never really done much research....if you dont have a big lots- sorry for the hijack!

No Big Lots near us. Come to think of it there is not much of anything near here. A big lake and lots of snow :teeth:

I have a Dyson and honestly they are worth the money. I noticed my local Walmart is now carrying them. :confused3 Maybe you could put one on layaway. :confused3 I am bit of a clean fanatic, so...my Dyson comes first then my family :thumbsup2

we bought the original yellow one 2 years ago from Sears. I've had to clean the filter once in those 2 years. it does eveything it said it does. I take ours out and literally clean around our concrete and tiled lanai with it. works like a champ.

If it helps any, I recently looked through the 2005 Consumer Reports best buy book (pulling it out again as I type here to be accurate) and the Dyson DC07 doesn't make the best buy list until position number 10. This is an upright vacuum by the way. This is the ONLY Dyson that made the list and they included the top 33 uprights.

I'm going to change their circles to stars (on a scale from 1 to 5) and rate the best a 5 and the worst a 1.

For carpet ***
bare floors *****
total airflow ****
noise **
emissions *****
ease of use **

Then, in the other area where they mark the features, it doesn't have a bag, it does have brush on/off and it has no manual pile adjustment.

Sells for $400

Consumer's Report Best Buy comes in at #3 though. It's the Eureka Boss Smart Vac Ultra 4870 and sells for a retail of $140 (maybe get a sale too?).

Carpet *****
bare floor *****
tool airflow ***
noise ***
emissions *****
ease of use ***

It has a bag (might be a disadvantage there already?). It also has brush on/off and it has a manual pile adjustment.

The number 1 and 2 are:

1. Hoover WindTunnel Self Propelled Ultra U6439-900. This is the one that requires a bag and I've read people on this board like this machine. It sells for $300 retail.

2. Kenmore (Sears) Progressive with Direct Drive 31912. It too is a bagged vacuum and retails for $230.

The number 4 is the Eureka Ultra Whirlwind 4885 and retails for $250. It's the first bagless vac on the list.

I don't see the Hoover Savvy anywhere on this list at all. Is it really new? This is the '05 buying guide.

I am going to keep researching. I tend to really value the opinions of people who actually use the product at home. I have purchased to many vacuums and love them for the first week or so and then have issues. They work okay but not great.

I have this one. I hated my windtunnel and the hoover I had before that. I asked my bil for the CR best vacuums and this was the list he gave me as well. Since I was replacing a wind tunnel I went with the number 2 vacuum. I'M SO GLAD I DID!!!

Did you have the one that requires the bag? The other (bagless) one didn't do quite as well, but still did pretty good, coming in at number 7. I'm shocked to hear you say this about the Windtunnel because everyone always raves it on this board, both the bagged and bagless versions.

I was thinking about getting one myself, now I'm unsure. LOL
