The Duggars

Those too were my thoughts! The kids are very sweet though. he mom's hair is irritating she needs to get rid of the lady mullet~!

We were all thinking that secretly. :thumbsup2 I know, I know, it's what's on the inside that counts, but we still have to look at the outside when you're on camera.

pweyl36wonder what you all think about the amish? The children only go to school till the 8th grade. Plus alot of farm work , and hand wash clothes, heck last summer we were in lancaster,pa and I saw a 6 or 7 yr old girl cutting the grass bare foot.( the kids dont wear shoes in summer). But you know what they have good values. With all the lazy kids there are these days how are they going to live as adults,if their parents do every thing for them?

Good point. I really think it won't hurt them to do chores and that's what they are- things that need to be done in a family where everyone pitches in. Not child abuse IMO.

A guy I used to work with was from a family of 13 kids and his job was to pack all the lunches. After he moved out he never packed another lunch again.

The Amish also give their children a year to live 'in the world' when they reach their late teens. They do this in order to give their children the CHOICE to live whichever life they find right for them. I can't see Jim Bob doing that but I could be wrong.

I have watched all of the Dugger shows. I do not agree with everything they do. However I have heard many people saying the children are living in an abusive environment and I do not agree. I have been a foster mother for 5 years and am the adoptive mother of 4 children from the foster care system. I can tell you stories of children who were abused. Doing 20 hours of chores per week may not be fun, but I don’t think it is being abusive. We have had children who were left alone for days with little food, burned with cigarettes, abused sexually, lived in a house that had to be condemned, wore filthy clothing, infested with head lice, a 5'5 13 year old girl who weighed 80 pounds, children covered in bruises, missing hair that had been pulled out by the parent and babies addicted to drugs.... I could go on and on.

The Dugger’s support their children financially. I am sure Jon and Kate are also compensated financially. They are with their children all of the time. They have food (aldi's or not), clothes and love.

They do what they think it right for their family and I do what I think is right for mine.

I also wanted to add that on the last show I saw they took the older girls to the hospital when the baby was born because they wanted to be midwives and nurses. The parents seemed totally supportive and proud of that.

My DH works in CPS, so I know all about child abuse.

The Duggars are not abused, but they're not valued or nurtured as children should be.

The Duggars could not support their family without their tv show and *church* (??) donations.

Jon & Kate are not "with their children all the time" - - Jon works as an IT - - he says so at the beginning of every show. They're also VERY different from the Duggars: they did not intend on having this many children.

Thank you! Adoptive mom here and also social worker. You said what I was thinking but could not say. Kudos to you!!

That just makes sick that people can treat children like that. Bless you for being a safe place for them, even if for just a little while!

Is that your youngest in your signature? She is PRECIOUS!

Honestly at this point do you really think these children receive individual attention from their mom and dad? They have the buddy system for the children so all the children are accounted for and watched over. It's not about being a parent as it's about getting their unit ready for the holy war I think.

:thumbsup2 Agree!

I don't care if they are christian or not, there is no way on this earth she can give individual attention to those kids, its like kids raising kids.
and last night jim bob couldn't remember the names of all the kids either, they gave him a couple trys and he couldn't do it.:)

:thumbsup2

Whatever happened to working to support your family and NOT living off of donations?? That is one way I want to teach my kids...NOT

Neither are those spoiled brats that appear on MY SUPER SWEET 16. On ABC's Wife Swap they had a teen princess on there who won beauty pageants. The parents were so proud of her that they did her homework for her because she was too busy with pageant stuff. The girl could barely read. Now tell me what would happen if she were in a car accident that disfigured her??

At least the Duggars are learning life skills. Their life might not be perfect but who's is?

I read somewhere that Oprah was going to send the oldest two to some midwife school to be licensed- she was going to pay the fees and tuition and everything. The mom and dad said NO, the girls are needed at home and can't go. :confused3

I dont agree with this. Infertility treatments = possibility of lots of babies. Been there and done that, got the tshirt. Did not work for me but was told over and over the possibilities. So, when they chose that route, they chose the chance. i dont blame them. I would have done it also.

I agree with much of what you've said. Although their way is certainly not my way when it comes to raising children, I would certainly not call it abuse. Also, I too remember reading somewhere (Discovery Health maybe) that some of the girls had goals of becoming nurses, midvives and I think one said she wanted to be a chef.
Now, as previously mentioned, if the family truely follows the Ezzos method of childrearing, I'll admit that is a little unnerving- but where was this read or stated? I don't remember hearing this at all and the babies and toddlers have all seemed happy and healthy. Of course, I know you can't always get the whole picture from TV and magazines.....

I know tons of people that have undergone fertility treatments and never even had twins, let alone sextuplets. It's not a *given*, it's a very remote possibility. Jon and Kate even say in the intro of their show that they never intended to have 8 children. The Duggars, however, are always very happy to report that they're just going to keep on having babies until that poor woman's body gives out.

the girls go laundry because they are part of a family and as in all families you should do your fair share to keep it running

do you know them personally because I have seen every show about there family and I have never seen them force there children to stay on any blanket

as far as there girls not pursing further education, they (the duggers) are a very religious family and as such they look to the Bible as a guide to raising there children and the Bible has very clear set guides as to the roles of men and woman.[/QUOTE]

we must not have the same bible...

I don't know but the Bible i have tells me to submit to my husband, to raise my children up in the way they should go(in a Godly manner) and when they are old they will not stray, it also teaches me to dress modestly for me that does not mean dresses as it does for the dugger. it also teaches me that everything I do should be to the glory of God, and not for the glory of me, as most people do these days,

Jon and Kate are not with their children all of time the Duggers are.

I also disaregg that Jon and Kate did not intend to have that many children. I am sure they did not intend to have 6 at once, but they knew they knew it was a possiblility. They used fertility treatments to concieve both pregnancies. They had a multiple birth the first time and knew that it could happen again. Please do not think I am against ferltility treatments. We tried everything from Clomis to IVF over the course of five years. I am just saying Jon and Kate do not have 8 children by accident.

I will also add that he may work in IT but I highly doubt he is keeping that family financially afloat on his salary. The kids are always in GAP, eat mostly organic (Kate says this 100 X's a show) and all of the newest and hottest toys and private school on a single-family income?

Thanks! We are not fostering right now. It is just to hard with all of my little ones. My DD was starting to pick up thing she just didn’t need to know. We will foster again when our children are older and we can give the foster children the attention they deserve.

Yes, that is my little princess in my siggi. Thanks for the compliment. We also think she is precious.

I totally agree. The Dugger children all seem very happy. There has to be a balance between to much responsibility and just letting your kids do nothing. I have a nephew who is so spoiled that he is miserable. He has everything he wants at his fingertips and if he doesn’t have it, they run out and get it for him. He is the most unhappy child I have ever seen.

Jon and Kate would readily admit that the TV show and the fact that they have sextuplets have both contributed to their family income and the things that they have. The kids are dressed in GAP because it's good advertising -- the clothes are given to them by GAP, with the promise that they'll wear them on tv. Lots of companies donate items to families with multiples.

I will have to look again. It seems that in an episode "Raising Kids God's Way" was mentioned. This is the Ezzos' thing.

Also, if you have ever looked at Bill Gothard's stuff.....very similar to Ezzo. That man actually SCARES me! He said for years that you should not adopt because "children carry the sins if the fathers and you just don't know what sins might be brought into your home!"

I cannot ever listen to him or support anything he does. But I don't have any strong opinions about that! :rotfl:

As for the mullet and the pinifores......

After watching the show I turned to DH and said, "What era do you need to stagnate in to be the most spiritual????" :rotfl2:

Dawn

You can call me crazy or whatever, I am not trying to stir the pot or anything but I just can not stand to watch Jon and Kate plus 8. The reason why is because of Kate. I just do not seem to like her. I have tried to watch a few times and every time she just drives me crazy. I think she is mean to her husband and I just can not stand her attitude.
I like watching all the other shows and it seems that most of the families are just more likable.
I don't understand having 17 children but that is just me. but if it works for your family go for it.
