I just spent 1 1/2 hours waiting in an examining room with my three kids.

DS (2) started having the croop cough at 2 am. Call for an appointment and got one for 10:45 am. I got there at 10:35 and waited for us to be called back. They called us back at 10:45 am.

Both DD (9) brought books to read. All of them were great and quiet. They played a little but nothing crazy.

I finally opened the door at 12:15pm because we were getting stuffy. A nurse came in at 11:15 to tell us that she (Dr) would be with us soon. She came to see us at 12:20pm. Everyone was getting hungry and restless.

She apologized to us profusely. When the nurse asked if she had seen A, she said yes. There was another boy there about the same age with the same first name and last initial. The Dr thought she was refering to him not my son. UGH! She said that this has never happened before in all of her years of practice. ( It just had to be us.)

I let it go. It was an honest mistake and no harm was done except that DS has a virus. She told me that one is going around and this was just day one. I should expect him to have a fever of 103 by the weekend. He should get a few more blisters in his mouth (has two now) and maybe on his hands. Told me what to do to care for him and to call imediately (sp) if I can't control the fever.

Our trip to Houston to check on DMIL is out.

I took them to Mcdonald's (drive thru) for being ssssoooooo good in the room.

I guess I will be lurking all week since we can't go anywhere.

Happy Thoughts to all,

I hear ya...............one time my eldest was hurt and needed stitches, we took her to the ER. We were waiting in the room, at least 1 1/2 hours, all of a sudden the dr came in apologizing, he did not know we were there. So I am not shocked this happened to you, but it makes you wonder sometimes, doesn't it?

I'm so sorry! It sounds like the coxsackie (sp?) virus, also known as hand, foot and mouth. Stock up on popsicles and Motrin or Tylenol.

I've been forgotten several times in waiting rooms. I don't have much patience for more than a 20 min. wait before I start poking my head out and asking what is up?

I agree with bananiem. My kids had it when they were 1 and 3. It very contageous and horriblr to see your kids go through this.We got 3 different perscriptions to help get rid of it and ease discomfort. I hope he gets better soon what ever he has.

I think we were forgotten the last time we took my daughter to the doctors. We had gone in cause she was burning up with a fever. Well, we had seen so many patients go in while we kept sitting in the waiting room for over two and a half hours. The receptionist went on her lunch break, then we were put into a room where we had waited for another ten minutes until the doctor had seen us

That happened to us one time. DS was sick, we were taken back to the exam room, saw the nurse ... she said the doctor would be right in. Waited 1/2 hour, no doctor. I took out the cell phone and called the front desk.

"Can I help you?"

"Yes, you can send the doctor to exam room #4!"

"What?? Where are you??"

"In exam room #4, we've been here quite a while and would like to see the doctor. Thank you."

You should have seen the look on the doctor's face when he came in.

When we were checking out at the front desk the staff kept giving me funny looks.

Hey, whatever works.

My daughter had the coxsackie last year - not fun.

The same thing happened to me once. My OB/Gyn forgot I was in the room. I was in there for an hour. I had the gown on so I didn't go looking for her. Finally I got fed up and got dressed to go find her and she apologized profusely for leaving me. I love her so I still go to her and it's never happened again. Sorry you had to go through that and I hope your son feels better soon.

Our pediatrician has another family with the same last name as ours, spelled the same way. I knew that family had a daughter with the same first name as my daughter...their charts frequently get mixed up. Last week I learned that they had a son with the same first name as my son! It's very confusing!

Sorry about your wait, and for your understanding.

Remember to keep in mind that when you wait to see a doctor, it may not always be the doctor's fault.

I've had a patient wait in the exam room for an hour. No, I did not keep them waiting. My RECEPTIONIST "forgot" to page me to let me know the patient was ready.

I guess I'm glad that I'm not the only one that this has happened too. But I'm sorry that it has happened to any of us.

I used it as an example to DD's that adults make mistake too. We are not as perfect as they think we are.

MI mom of 3 - I didn't have my cell phone on me. DH has it in CO with him.

KarenC - Tell the office you want all your files in bright lime green folders. LOL

Happy popsicle thoughts to all,

Sorry to hear that your little guy is sick. Hope it runs its' course quickly! (& that no one else at home gets it.)

I'm always amazed that we don't have to wait longer in some of these exam rooms! Out-of-sight/out-of-mind!! Ya kinda wonder what their system is anyway......

I have a story that beats all of yours hands down. My Mom went for a mammogram and after the exam was told to wait in a room (in the paper-gown) until the dr came in to go over the results.

She waited and waited. She read her book. She became very worried that something was terribly wrong with her and they didn't want to tell her. She prayed she would be ok. Well, after about 2 hrs she pulled the back of her paper gown together and ventured out into the hall. No one was there. Some lights were off. She found one lady still at the front desk who looked startled when she walked in. She said, "Is the dr ever going to come in and talk to me?"

Poor Mom! She was so embarrassed. Then of course her parking ticket was outrageous because she'd been there for several hours. She wrote a letter to the Medical Director who apologized and reimbursed her for her parking ticket.

BTW her mammo was normal. :)

My doctor's office don't mess up with that but they forget to rely messages to the doctors on a timely manner consistently, to the point where my doctor has told me to use my message center online to get in touch with him quicker.
My doctor's office has online services, I can do just about anything once I sign up, see my records, make appointments, look at results, and it also has a direct line with the doctor but almost nobody uses it.
But I got a good one last year. I had a mammogram last year and I had not heard anything , so a few days later I called the doctor and asked if they had received the results. Two days later I got a phone call back from another one of the doctor's in the same practice, and tells me that I need to go to the orthopedist. First of I'm confused because I don't know who that doctor is , second because I don't know why he's sending me to the orthopedist. The nurse says to me who he is and then tells me that I have a broken finger. Say what? I had a broken finger two months before and it had already healed!
When I told them I called for the mammogram results, not for the finger results, they did not get anything. The weird thing is that just the day before I had gotten a letter in the mail with the results saying that everything was normal.
Oh yes, and the message relying in that office.....consistently messed up!
Two years ago I kept calling for my dd's allergy test results ( treatment pended on that ) and they never told the doctor I called after leaving her three messages, all with the same person. I finally went to the office in person and needless to say that the doctor and the office manager came in to talk to me, the office manager told me not to worry because they would take care of the person, she no longer worked there a week later.
Now I use my direct line with the doctors , that is quicker and more reliable.

I hope your son feels better soon.
