I just have to laugh! We just booked for this fall, and I've been getting so excited about it! DH says he's taking me just so he can hear me take a big breath, smile and say "oh I'm really here ... it smells like WDW!" I just have to get him to read this thread .....
I'm a teacher, so we go in the summer. While we wait, on those hot, sticky HUMID days, I open the front door and say, "It smells like Disney!" That's the only good thing to say about humidity!
I like the honey smell they pipe into the shop when you come out of the Pooh ride. I also love the smokey bbq smell at AK - Flame Tree BBQ I would guess.
I hold my nose and breath during a certain part of It's a Bug's Life!
The bus exhaust smell! I used to work in NYC, and travel to WDW a couple of times a year w/ a friend of mine. When we would go out for lunch and a big stinky, NYC bus would pass us, we would say, Smells like a disney bus!
I live in Orlando now, and even when I smell an Orlando bus outside of WDW, I still think of Disney!
I love the smell of the Monorial! I can't really describe what it smells like, but its just one of those smells that never changes when you come back the the world! I love the Monorail so much...I think its one of the funnest rides in WDW..and when I miss it I listen to SubSonic radio station that plays DisneyMusic and request some monorail sound clips...then I can close my eyes and imagine I was there. LOL...I was sitting on a bench in a restaurant the other day, and I smelled the "Monorail" smell...haha it was 'magical'.
i remember along time ago on the ride for horizons the cm told us that disney uses scent machines everywhere to get that certain scent. in the horizons it was oranges. that could be why each place has it memorable scent. whatever it is it works, i smell oranges and i think of horizons.
I agree with the others on the GF smell. I love the smell of the fresh flowers in the lobby. When the doors open and that blast hits you is just an amazing feeling for me.
I have been saying this for years. Disney most definitely pipes in certain smells, we all know this, But why don't they bottle the scents and sell them!! The Emporiam on Main St USA has the most distinct smell, one of my favorites.
I asked about the smell in the Monrail and it is the cleaner they use for the seats and walls, I thought it was horse manure!!! Ooops!
Our reosrt rooms all have special smells as do the resort lobbys.
I love Disney smells and am so glad they use them. I am instantly transported to my Disney vacation when I first get a whiff!!
There is definately a "Disney" smell.....we notice it most often when exiting a large mall or store (like Wal-Mart) on a hot day, and it has rained while we were in the store....the combination of sun and hot, just-rained-on pavement...that does it for sure
That is so funny. Everytime my daughter and I o to wal-mart in the summer after a brief summer rain shower, we look at each other and in unison we say,
"It smells like disney world!!!"
The Polynesian very definitely has a certain smell! It just says vacation to me. It's also very nostalgic because it's where we always stayed on family vacations when I was growing up. DH and I will be there in July and I can't wait!
