What is that scent? You know the one you smell when you first walk inside your resort? Or the one you smell when you go on POTC? Or the Monorail?

You know the one I'm talking about? The Disney Smell that takes you back to your childhood? Makes you feel like your home?

I'm not nuts...I know you all recognize that scent too!

List your experiences with the Disney Smell!

And please, this thread is not for posting about gross smells or smoke etc. It's about that Disney scent that brings back special memories...

I just know I'm not nuts here... :rotfl:

Okay, DH thinks I am crazy but I insist that the GF has a certain smell in the morning that makes he feel almost giddy. I don't know if its a combination of certain kinds of flowers and the warm July sun or what but I would recognize that smell anywhere. Glad to know that I am not alone.

It doesn't really invoke any memories for me but I alway love the smell of the candy shop(Confectionary I think) right at the beginning of Main Street in WDW. So much good stuff in there!

I know exactly what you are talking about!!! I don't think you are nuts. :teeth:

It's the smell the moment you step onto the Disney property that makes you think of past trips as a child or as an adult, and it's the smell that makes you want to smile, jump up and down, and yell "We're back!!!" :cheer2: :cheer2:

I can't wait until my next trip. :cloud9:

I always recognize the smell of all the fountains/water etc at Disney.... Brings back happy memories.

There are definatly smells. The Beach Club has a certain smell it is a clean floral smell. My mom said she missed that smell the last time we stayed someplace else. The ice cream shop on main street definatly has a distinct smell. I think it is the waffle cone. All I know is they opened up a cold stone creamery ice cream place by me and it smells just like the MK ice cream shop so eveytime I walk in there, I think of WDW.

But I think some of the smell, mainly in the MK, which I recently began to believe it is a mildew smell.

Mostly in the Main Street shops and older areas of the park. I know it is a little gross, but I think it is a 'mildewy' type smell.

I also think a chlorine smell is one, especially in POTC.

These may be everyday smells, and maybe a little weird, but I think they are Wonderful Disney type smells!

Oh my gosh, Emmaline Lola your daughter is so adorable!!!! What a cutie-pie!! :goodvibes

:cool1: My Hotel room smell, the bus smell, and the parks smell. I went to AK and saw Festival of the Lion King, and the smoke they use has a cotten candy type smell to it, I LOVED it! :goodvibes Soarin' has smells too!

I know for a fact that the Disney stores have a scent machine (ever notice how they all smell the same no matter what mall in what part of the country you're in?

Many places in disney have the chlorine smell to me from all the fountians and pools, but the best smell overall is the Poly. It's a combination of natural woods, chlorine and something else... mmmm... Just thinking about it makes me hungry for some polynesian food :)

I totally agree!! Disney has it's own distinct smell. I just love being wisked back to great memories by my nose. :)

I concurr just last week I noticed it .. its very distinctive and different than the BCV smell where I stayed :wizard:

In the Disney store by me the A/C seems to always be on since we had one day about 70. I'm in RI and there is still mostly 50 degree days but the A/C is still going strong it's the strangest thing.Maybe its there scent machine :teeth:

I'll disagree on one point. When I think of smells at Poly, I think of only one thing... the Tonga building, and it isn't good.

Allow me to explain.

Last October, we stayed at SOG. We always walked to Poly to get on the monorail. One time, we took what we thought would be a shortcut through the Tonga building to get to the Great Ceremonial House. Not only was it not a shortcut, but the hallway on the first floor stinks! :headache:

For some reason our entire group thought the hallway smelled moldy and old - like the place had flooded and then not been allowed to air out. I don't know if all the buildings (other than the Great Ceremonial House) at Poly smell like this, but if they do, don't look for me at Poly.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I don't think you are crazy at all! I know exactly what you mean!

For me, its the lobby of the Poly - a tropical, steamy smell. Sometimes I can get it here in Texas on humid mornings...but that smell coupled with the sound of the waterfalls in the lobby is WDW to me.

Also, any of the water attractions like iasw and Splash have a very unique Disney smell - I know some people complain about the water at Disney but if they cleaned it up and took away the smell I'd miss it! :)

And, of course, the popcorn on Main St.....mmmmmm.....

Yep, there's a "smell" alright. Maybe there's something in the smell that makes us want to go back and back and back and back , again and again and again............ :lovestruc

I LOVE the smell of the BCV. I don't know what it is? Fresh paint? Either way, it is distinct and wonderful! I also love the smell of Florida. As soon as I leave MCO I take in the sweet smell of Orlando!

very simply.... "happiness". They should come out with a room spray, wouldn't that be great. But, it's kinda like being able to travel through time and be a kid again and simply enjoy the magic of it all and (for just a little while) lets you escape from everyday life. I don't know many other places that make me feel that way, but Disney sure does! :Pinkbounc

:flower: I'm not crazy, I thought the same too :flower: We recently bought a Nissan truck for my DH and it smelled like the monorail! I was in heaven!
