The Disney Grump is taking me on a DREAM vacation! TR Link, pg 30

Yay for free (or included :rolleyes1) room service. I guess that's what we will do too. We are night owls, so being out late doesn't bother me, but going to bed with a very full stomach does. I could do that when I was 18, but not so much now! And how could you not have a full stomach on a cruise?!?! I'll deal with it though. I'll just pack lots of Tums!

I have another question for you on the dolphin encounter. Can you tell me why you booked it through Disney and not direct? I noticed on the blue lagoon web site, that it is much cheaper to book directly. I'm just wondering if there is some factor to it that I don't know about (like differences in transportation to BL or is it not as safe to book direct, etc.) I just want to make sure I understand it all ahead of time b/c, to be honest, Nassau makes me nervous. It doesn't really sound like a good neighborhood if you know what I mean. I don't want to book it directly and then have to take a cab through some rough neighborhood to get to the boat or whatever. We have no intentions of actually going into Nassau so if booking directly requires us to do that, then I'd rather book through Disney. Any info you can pass along would be very much appreciated. :)

Rinky, you have no choice since you are cruising Disney you must book through Disney. We tried and couldn't. They have an agreement.

Oh, ok! Thank you! I knew there had to be a reason. So how do you get to Blue Lagoon then? Do they pick you up from the Dream or do you have to go to Paradise Island port (?) like the web site says? And since it is offered through Disney, does that mean that you can use your onboard credits towards the price?

Like Anita said, as soon as Blue Lagoon finds out that you are on a Disney cruise they will not let you book directly through them because it violates their contract with Disney. Now I have heard of people omitting that fact, but I couldn't bring myself to fib....

I think it works like this, you meet your group in the lobby on the Dream before the excursion and then you are escorted to the dock (which is apparently within walking distance from the ship) where the catamaran/ferry will take you over to Blue Lagoon Island. And yes, on board credits can be used towards excursions booked through Disney. :thumbsup2

The cabanas look awesome! So happy you were able to work out a share. In addition to the great company you'll be keeping, definitely helps the budget! Can't wait to hear all about it!!

I am over the moon excited about the cabana! I don't know what made me look at the cabana thread that morning but when I opened it up and saw that you could now book them online, then went over and saw that there was just one left - well I knew that must be a sign that I was meant to have it  Sharing it with Miss Anita Wigd will make it perfect!

I'll let Michelle answer those questions, I have no clue....
I think I'll just follow the pack.

We'll just go where they tell us to go, huh?

 I think if I ask her anything else, she's going to have to charge me a travel advisor fee! :rolleyes1

 Nah, that's what these boards are for right?!

So great that you get the Cabana and get to share it with friends! :thumbsup2 I am sure you are getting really excited!

I am excited - just 6 more weeks till we leave!! :woohoo:

The cabana sounds (and looks!) amazing!!!! I watched the video a few times because it just looks so peaceful & relaxing there!!! :thumbsup2

And yippee for sharing with Anita!!! What a great idea -- split the cost & share the day with friends!!! :goodvibes

The dolphin encounter really sounds amazing too! I cannot wait to see pictures from your trip!!! It's not that far away now!!! I bet you are super excited!!!! ;)

Just catching up.....

I think sharing a cabana rental sounds great! But don't you have to pay extra for each person after 6?

Here's my take on the cabanas, fwiw....... When we were at CC, we spent a total of 10 minutes on our lounge chairs. We were either on the slide, snorkeling, or just roaming the island....... And sadly, it rained our day, so we only got about 3 or 4 good hours. But in that time, we only used the chairs to hold our things.

And do not worry about leaving your belongings. I felt totally comfortable there. After all, everyone there is from the DCL ship (not that that makes them all upstanding citizens, afterall, they let ME on the ship! :rotfl:) but it does "seem" safer).

All I can say is......I Want to Go on A Cruise!!!!!!.....NOW!Your killin' me. :lmao:

You may have already mentioned this, and if so forgive me for asking, but are you guys taking passports or birth certificates? I just looked into the price of the passports and :scared1::scared1::scared1: . I couldn't believe how expensive they are! I'm seriously considering just taking the birth certificates. I mean, I have no problem spending hundreds of dollars to get my Disney fix, but I want something more exciting than a passport in return! I was just wondering what you thought about all of it.

Oh wow, if I had a cabana like that, I might actually look forward to going to the beach!

I'm so excited reading about your cruise preparations. Howard and I are talking about eventually doing a cruise even if it's like, for our 5 year anniversary or something. I actually emailed the group and said this:

2013 - WDW again in FEbruary
2015 - Disneyland
2017 - Disney cruise!

Haha, of course, that'd be a ton of money, but we had so much fun vacationing as a group, that we might end up doing it over and over again.

subbing in, your plans look AMAZING :goodvibes

Sounds like you have a wonderful family with two great boys. I have a feeling the DCL adventure will make your DH more in favor of a Disney vacation, and you are a smart woman adding in that baseball game on your way to Florida, any sports related activity would put my Dh in a good mood for any trip

Can't wait to read more

While Passports are not cheap, they are good for a long time (if you are 16 or Older when you get it, it's valid for 10 Years).

Plus, there will be a time in the not too distant future you will need a passport or other ID card for all international travel.

http://www.nassauparadiseisland.com/passport/

From http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_989.html#entry_requirements
Travel by Sea: Americans may enter the Unites States from The Bahamas by sea using a passport, passport card, or other Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) compliant document.

So, my suggestion is - better safe than sorry - there may be some question if you use a birth certificate - there will never be a question with a passport.

For reference, an Adult passport card for a first time applicant is $55 - (30 + 25). Not an outrageous sum. A full passport plus passport card is $165 (140 + 25). A full passport book alone is $135 (110 + 25).

If you only intend to ever go to a Caribbean island by sea - then go for the passport card only.

http://travel.state.gov/passport/ppt_card/ppt_card_3926.html
The U.S. Passport Card can be used to enter the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda at land border crossings or sea ports-of-entry and is more convenient and less expensive than a passport book.

The passport card cannot be used for international travel by air.

Hope this helps you with your decision making...

Yep, just watching that video relaxed me too, I can't wait to actually be there!

The trip is getting close, close enough that I'm starting to freak that I'm running out of time  I really wanted to get a bit of tan before we went, especially because we can't wear sunscreen during the dolphin encounter, but I'm still white as a ghost - it takes me forever to tan, so starting now is probably just a waste of time....

I still need to purchase some things, and make my door magnets. Next week I'm doing test monitoring at Jared's school all week, so I won't get much done that week, I'm going to Minnesota for a week in May as well, which leaves me with just 3 weeks to actually get everything in order!

Yep, you're right, we will have to pay extra for our 7th person, but we still come out way ahead sharing the cost. :thumbsup2

While I love the beach, I'm actually not a big fan of being in the ocean (yeah, I know, I'm strange  ) so I'll get lots of use out of a lounge chair and shady hut!

All I can say is......I Want to Go on A Cruise!!!!!!.....NOW!Your killin' me. :lmao:

Go Mary Ellen, go!!!

We have passports, I already had one, but had to buy them for Don and the boys. Yes, it was a big expense, but worth it for my peace of mind. If, God forbid, something bad happened and you had to fly home from the Bahamas, you can not do that with birth certificates. I didn't want to take that chance.

Taking the trips every other year should get everyone plenty of time to save up, I think it's a good plan!

Hi there! :welcome: and thanks for posting!

Sports related activites are a good way to put all three of my boys into a good mood! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this cruise does the trick with DH, I'll probably need a little magic too :wizard:

Great information, thanks for posting it!

I totally agree with the better safe than sorry suggestion. :thumbsup2

Happy Easter Michelle! I hope you have had a great day!

I got behind but am all caught up now. Those cabanas look nice. Super cool that you get to share with Anita, Marc, and Baylor. My sister said something about getting one for our cruise but I am not sure. I guess I'll wait and see how it goes for you and some others. It's weird, I know, but I am not a fan of how they have sectioned off the beach for them.

Have a great week!

I love candid pictures! You can really see a persons true feelings- or in this case it looks like those feelings!

Sorry about the whole- driving soon thing- I can't relate because I don't have kids- but DH's siblings are getting older and one of them is in 6th grade.. and I always tell DH- can you believe that he is half way to high school and will be driving soon?! Its scary to think.. that will definitely be hard for me. My mom says I'm to protective over my dog, I can't wait to see when I have a child.

I watched the video and the cabana looks extremely nice! And definitely worth the money if you will be there a lot! :thumbsup2

Hi Stacy! Hope you had a great Easter too.

I saw your DC pictures that you had linked in MeMom's report, looks like you guys had a great time! If the funds don't allow for a vacation to Hawaii next year, I think our family trip will be to DC. I'll have to pick your brain for details if that ends up being the case :thumbsup2

I love candid pictures! You can really see a persons true feelings- or in this case it looks like those feelings!

I asked Justin about that picture, he was indeed getting a lecture  I guess he had just had a bad at bat and he was getting an earful about letting it effect his attitude ;)

I'm really not looking forward to it! I know we have to let our children grow up and give them freedoms, but this one scares the crap out of me!

I hope so, I think it will be!

So much to talk about in this update! Mostly life stuff, but I'll have a trip update in here too.

Thought I'd share a few pictures from Justin's birthday. On his actual birthday (Friday, the 15th) I paid for him and 4 friends to go to the movies and out for ice cream afterwards, then we had a family dinner later that weekend. The weekend wasn't free of other plans, neither was the one before or after, so I decided to just do Justin's birthday dinner on Sunday night. Jared was playing in a baseball tournament, but I figured that they would have to make the championship game in order for Don and Jared to not be able to make the dinner. Well guess what? They made the championship game. Justin was glad they were winning, but bummed that his dad and brother weren't going to be home for his celebration.

My parents, step-parents, and brother & SIL were there. Justin had fun playing with my niece.

IMG_5847.jpg

My SIL keeps trying to teach him how to change a diaper since he's at a perfect babysitting age, but for some reason he isn't interested

He got mostly cash for his birthday because there just wasn't much that he wanted. He did ask for some Beats headphones, and since that is all he wanted that's what I got for him, even though I think they are ridiculously overpriced. He was happy though!

IMG_5852.jpg

IMG_5853.jpg

Whatcha got there??

And even though he doesn't need any, he talked my mom into buying him some new shoes. I swear he will have 100 pairs of shoes when he gets a job and has his own money, he's almost as bad as I am!

IMG_5854.jpg

He wanted a cookie cake, so that's what I made him

IMG_5855.jpg

All in all it was a good night, it was just a bummer that Don and Jared couldn't be there.

***********************

Now for Easter weekend. I hope everyone had a good one! We played baseball through Saturday. Justin's school was hosting a tournament so I worked a couple of days in the concession stand. We made it to the championship game, but lost and ended up with 2nd place. Jared also played in a one day tournament, Saturday only, he played 5 games in one day! They went 3 & 2 and got 3rd place. Saturday night it started raining and it didn't stop until Monday morning, so Easter day itself was a complete wash out. I'm not complaining though, we were in desperate need of rain, so it was a blessing!

We got up and went to early service at church, then came home and the boys checked out their Easter buckets (we don't do baskets, cause they're for girls  ) and did a little egg hunting.

IMG_5860.jpg

Since the boys are getting older they are just not as into the whole Easter egg hunt thing anymore. So I really scaled down what I do for them this year. They each got a little candy in their buckets, a movie and an itunes gift card.

Then, to keep them from claiming that they are 'too old' to hunt Easter eggs, I stuffed the eggs with money inside instead of candy. I did this last year too and it was a big hit! Because of the rain we had to have our hunt inside. Justin's eggs were hidden in the kitchen

Goofball

IMG_5871.jpg

Checking to see if anything was hidden in the junk cabinet above the stove - I hope I'm not the only one with one of these!

Jared's eggs were hidden in the living room

IMG_5863.jpg

IMG_5870.jpg

I can't find anymore!

With the loot afterwards

IMG_5875.jpg

After I did a bit of cooking we left and went to my mom's to eat, where I got to see my sweet Baylee again. I can't tell you how fun it is to finally have a girl in the family!

IMG_5879.jpg

IMG_5883.jpg

IMG_5877.jpg

Jared was pretty impressed with himself for getting an egg to balance on Baylee's plush ducky's nose

This is my nephew, Baylee's big brother, with Justin

Overall it was a good day. We played a lot and ate too much, just what holidays are for right?

Ok, back to the reason for this report in the first place, trip plans!! At this time 5 weeks from today I hope to be in Atlanta, if not already there, then very close! I've got so much to do between now and then, and I'm going to be gone for one week to Minnesota for my cousin's graduation, so I'm starting to feel slightly stressed. How did this trip that seemed so far off get nearly on top of me already???

When we last left off we were enjoying the AKL. The next day would be June 3rd. This is the day we will board the Dream! :sail: We have a breakfast ADR for Boma at 7:45, but since our port arrival time is between 11 & 11:30, I'm thinking of moving this back a little to maybe 8:15??? When I made the ADR I wanted to be at the port before 10am, but the early arrival times were all taken when I checked in, so really there is no reason for us to rush in the morning. So, do I change the ADR time or do I just leave it alone and we could take a stroll out to see the animals one last time after breakfast? Decisions, decisions!

I've never eaten at Boma for breakfast and I've read great things about it so I can't wait to try out for myself

MTT_boma.jpg

wdwboma3.jpg

After breakfast we'll make our way to the port and join in the holding pens where we will eventually be let onto the beautiful Dream. I've looked at so many pictures, but I'm sure they won't compare to seeing it with my own eyes.

Dream20Atrium.jpg

Disney_Dream_Cruise_Ship.jpg

I've got two things on my 'must do' list after we board. One is to stop by the excursions desk and have the Wigdout clan added to our cabana, the other is to head to Palo and try to get a reservation for brunch for our at sea day.

We'll have some lunch, I've heard the buffet at Cabana's is loaded with just about anything and everything so I'm looking forward to that.

Then we will hopefully be able to get into our cabin. We have a Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah. They look great, I can't wait to check it out!

1219BZ_0046MS_07255_500w.jpg

In addition to the pull down bunk, this room has a murphy bed in the wall, which allows it to sleep 5. The murphy bed will be so much better for my boys as I'm afraid they are both a bit too big to be on a bunk!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I don't find out on this night that I wasted a ton of money on a cruise that I won't enjoy because I get seasick! I'm a bit nervous about this as I do have issues with motion sickness, but I'm going to get those patches that you wear behind your ear and I'll have Bonine with me, hopefully that will do the trick - wish me luck!!

I love the cookie cake!
Your niece is adorable.
I have two nephews and we do buckets as well. I can't wait for my niece to get here this summer so I can buy a basket next Easter.
So clever to put money in the eggs instead of candy. I may have to do that next year.

I would leave the BOMA ADR for 7:45 and spend the extra time strolling around AKL.

The rooms on the Dream look amazing!
I hope you won't need your motion sickness meds. :goodvibes

Happy Belated Birthday to Justin.

My DD was on duty with EMS and my DS was home but sadly I did not do any candy this year. Too much tempation for me and I always seems to get too much. :sad2: So sad they are growing up. We just had a quiet dinner.

When the first one started driving I was a nervous wreck. When the second one started I was and am much better.

We always joke that DD is able to drive the ambulance now so at least peple will get out of her way with lights and siens on.

The dream is soooo dreamy. :rotfl: Someday ... maybe....

My DH can't ride anything that spins & he gets motion sickness once in awhile. So he tried the patch & swears by it. I was afraid that I might get sick so I tried the patch, but it made me sick. So, off it went & I was better. :cool1:

Michelle, I with you, love the beach, but don't want to get in the water. I don't want to meet whatever is lurking in that water! :scared1:

Doris

Great life and trip update! I think you should leave your Boma ADR as it is. The earlier the better I say. If in the extremely rare case they fall behind or it takes you a long time to get out of there, you won't be rushing as much having gone at the earlier time.

About the seasickness, don't think about it! I'm telling you right now you will feel the ship move. I don't have bad motion sickness but sometimes I stress over it so much I make myself sick! When I went on my first cruise, I armed myself with Gravol (Bronine equivalent I think) and ended up taking quite a bit only because I was so paranoid about feeling sick. Just don't think about it and you should be fine :thumbsup2

Happy Birthday to Justin :)

Looks like you've had some pretty fun family gatherings and a busy week.

Your new plans look/sound great.
