The DisFort's Chit Chat Cafe

Kris, Just my opinion but it sounds like your little girl did well for her 1st time adventuring. Car and RV trips are new to her but I bet will soon become one her favorite activities. Even more so when ADVENTUREING is involved. Next thing you know you will be looking for campgrounds that have Dog Parks and heaven help you when she discovers Golf Cart rides.sky rider.jpggolf cart commando.jpg
These are pics from 6 years ago, the week the Savages adopted us. Sky was not impressed with the Band and Katie preferred to play Golf Cart Commando.

@FtW Mike i agree, all things considered she did great. We will head to mom’s today so she will get another car ride. Hopefully we keep seeing improvement. Last night she did not want to stay in the bedroom, but eventually settled down and did not try and get in my bed. I know she was in and out of the dog bed.

this morning took a long walk in the park and hit the dog park for a romp.

She is really cute. No doubt she has good home.

On a side note, DW cooked simple meal of Hamburger Helper this evening. No big deal, loved it all my life. However, I happened to read the top of the box:

Apparently the new marketing manager is from a trailer park near me. That some MS stuff, no doubt.

@garneska I think miss Whisky is gonna settle in just fine over the next few trips based on the progress you saw.

Last weekend was HOT. So thankful the track has some pretty solid power. I never saw under 108V, I wish it stayed higher but I will take it with 100' of 50A cord out, ambient temps of 96. The RV kept up till late afternoon, then 75-77 was the best it could muster from 4-6pm. Worker camping has zero shade, it is just a grassy field with 3 separate power posts each with 7-10 outlets at 50 or 30A. Thankfully each post has its own dedicated transformer.

The race weekend went well and I tool our evening downtime to fine tune the RV internet. The t-mobile SIM is working well and I started to setup the RV whisper system I decided to buy. This is pretty cool since it is a bluetooth gateway, I can connect to it either directly on the RV wifi or though a cloud connector the provider offers. The goal is to have it monitor battery, temps, and it syncs with my power watchdog so it can not only send me notifications when the power goes out, but also when there are other power alarms when we are away.

I am still setting things up but I plan to add mopeka propane monitors and some more temp sensors for the fridge and freezer. In the end it can be my overall RV piece of mind.

Rock it.

In the efforts to never sit still, I been working away on my next projects. First I am working on finally refinishing my parents china cabinet and making it look a bit more modern. I started the the drawers this week using the stain Melissa picked out which is very close to the original. Really just getting rid of 40 years of kids and moving damage, its a slightly dated piece that I hope with a fresh finish and some new hardware will look better. The side slats are rosewood inlays. So far we like how its turning out and I will get some lacquer (most likely polyurethane) on it this weekend before I start on the larger pieces.

Because one project is never enough, I was asked by my buddy Ken to help him rebuild Mickey Cart 2.0 that he bought off John. This cart was gorgeous until the speed controller died. John got a replacement but then let the cart sit and even used it as parts for a bit. First round is just to get her cleaned up and running, so yesterday I gave it a good power wash, then a proper foam cannon wash, and finally some cleaner wax and clay bar. It cleaned up pretty nice and this weekend Ken will be over and we will tackle the rotton seat frames (he has cut and sealed fresh plywood), and we are converting it from 36v wet cell golf cart batteries to a new 36v (3x12v) 100AH LiFePo4 (lithium) power system.

We don't want to bite off too much this round as he is trying to get it ready for use at Anchor down next month. Over the winter I told Ken if he wants we can tear it down again to pull the body panels and get them resprayed the same color and rivet it all back on plus fix anything else to really make it a nice cart again.

I have not forgotten the RV either. I bought some expanded steel to go under the propane tanks to serve as a catch/floor for the propane sensors this will still allow the area to vent as required and at the same time help me avoid from loose a sensor over a bit highway bump. After that I will go ahead and get the 12v battery monitor installed as well while I sort out the final spot for the router and RV Whisper to call home so I can install the 12v connected USB ports to power it all. I already am scoping out the next router I plan to use, I started low end Gl.iNet Spitz which is OK but not the fastest router around. It does well and all, but I am looking into coming seasons and the chance to work on the road a little. So now I am looking at Cudy LT18 which is a dual SIM router, though I plan to start with a single SIM I have considered adding Visible to mix as a backup/alternative to T-Mobile. Though that is not set in stone since I seem to be doing OK with just the one sim right now.

Picked up some junk for outside the house at the flee market today. Kido will get to paint the dear, I primed him. . Wheels will just probably lean against the house. I liked the wheels, if any one has info on them , let me know. Im thinking old wagon or tractor. Baised on the hubs. 20220730_110216.jpg20220730_125325.jpg

Got more work done on the cart. The lower seat boards where all rotted out and we cut new ones using a good template. Then sealed them with Thompson's water seal in order to extend its life and installed the stainless T nuts as needed. I cleaned up the original seat covers and stapled them back on and it looks good. Not perfect like new covers, but this project is a mild beautification and get it running.

In the mean time I went through all the old cables and items and found we needed quite a few items to get this back up and running. So I spent the evening searching out everything from solenoids, resistors, diodes and 25 feet of quality 4ga copper. Since we are converting this cart from 6x6v 225AH Lead acid to a 3x12v 120AH LifePo4 I will need to remake most of the connections. After going over everything Ken decided I should upgrade the entire drive system to 4 gauge from the stock 6 gauge. I already have the battery shunt/monitor and he got a lithium capable 36v charger. The fact that this conversion will drop nearly 300# from the cart and 5x the charge cycles made the investment worth it.

I also made progress on the china cabinet by getting the first coats of poly on the drawers. I wish I got more done but I woke up to some shocking news that a close friend from the track passed suddenly Saturday night. It really put me in a reflective mode and while I welcomed the distraction of a project I was very much not as motivated as I was before. It just goes to remind you that life can be shorter then expected, so treasure the moments you have.

Check out the Jetty Park campground right behind you there along the channel, Jimmy. We've camped there twice in the month of March over the years. I like it but DW is "meh". But you can see some big boats pass by right there.

Ed

PS - have a great cruise yerself, there, you and the family (I guess).

The Family?! I knew I forgot something….

j/k

Yeah… spied it on way in… a couple out here in this open grassy camping area right next to the channel and park area… many more back in the more “traditional” camping area… will take a look in there better after ship departs….

OH YEAH…. We saw a Navy sub departing just as we arrived!

Between the tugs…
Didn’t get a great pic, but…

Yes the "RV Inlet" sites are H2O hookups only (or so they say) which are shown in the pic immediately above. Sites inside the fence/gate have some concrete slab sites, some grass sites (both types haver a mix of more hookups), but you can walk through a gate over to the Inlet/Channel to watch the boats or out the ocean side gate and sit on the rough, course, but flat and shallow brown Atlantic Ocean beach sand (which is better than NO beach sand but it's not the sugar fine beach sand of the Bama/FL Gulf Coast).

They also have a few teeny tiny cabins that are popular with folks for that "night-before-boarding-the-cruise-ship" if you want to stay nearby on the beach and still enjoy that campground vibe.

Have a great trip. 🛳️🍹🐠

Me

PS - I bet DW would LOVE a teeny tiny cabin at the campground for the 1 night b4 a cruise :sad2:

Edit to say staying on Disney property did yield bonus Earl of Sandwich, Joffrey’s, and Cape May Café breakfast… WIN!
