The DisFort's Chit Chat Cafe

@2goofycampers. Here is a good pic of our view. I just took it as we are eating dinner on the balcony.

Mallory does not enjoy it as much but need her to stay awake since we went out hiking today. She slept all day.

Today’s hike was to test the leg. This was 2000 ft of gain and a lot of technical trail. We stopped here for the views and used our new hiking chairs.

So far leg feels good. Will see how it is tomorrow. We are planning some urban hiking tomorrow but with our packs.

Wow, great view. Glad Mallory is doing better.

We went to visit my folks. My brother made pizza and I brought the fancy dessert. It is a brownie with chocolate mousse on top then a coating of chocolate. Was decadent and delicious.

I was sore from the hike yesterday so we did urban hiking today. Walked the city did 6.75 miles and 500 feet of gain but it was all on concrete and we carried our packs. We looked stupid but, it helped loosen me up but have tightened up again. Plan is 3 miles on the treadmill tomorrow. Hoping next week to run outside.

Ok , ill post a picture because no one will tell my mom, pinky promise.
Mom , decided to make her famous parker avenue cake. Parker avenue was the home we had when we were kids. This was a 1970s style dessert. Many jello squares, held in place by more gelatin. As she forgot the recipe, google came through with the original. Now , my mom is 87, and prety spry for her age. And take into consideration the cake tasted the same. Now for the pictures. 20210509_165950.jpg20210509_165941.jpg

It still tasted like it did when i was a kid. Yea, it looked like it was running away. Maybe it was trying to get back to the 70s? IDK.

All the iMessage images that you want to post because you DIDN’T book a campsite for Memorial Day weekend because you thought the kids were all going to have sports but then found out that NO ONE has any sports so you are now constantly stalking about 25 different campground websites in a daily basis looking for that elusive cancellation....

Ok I have ungrounded myself. A few months ago, well more than few, I had to ground myself from posting, and limiting my reading, so I could do some things around the house. Those are mostly done, so I am partially ungrounding myself, and have myself permission to read and post here. I’m still grounded from other fun activities until I am fully caught up. Oh yeah, I’m ungrounded from camping too.

I have still been reading a lot of the posts, so I have heard about a few 5ers going to Class A’s, puppies, remodeling, and elephant statues. I too have an announcement. DS and DDiL are expecting a baby due in early August. DDiL is now in her 3rd Trimester. It’s a girl, and her name is “Emily Amber”. I’m gonna have granddaughter! Yes, this is my first grandchild.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there. DW and I had Cracker Barrel take out. Nothing major, but it was her suggestion, and we both like it.

Now onto posting.

@himandher818 Congratulations!!!

@4077 Booking last minute is never easy. Even the less known places are typically booked out. We have too much going on and now my job made it a 4 day weekend!!! I would love to go camping, but I am thinking just staying local and seeing friends will be enough. We leave for the beach 2 weeks later!!

Congrats Dave!

I am such a pre-planner on Disney things, I haven't been in the situation of stalking the reservation site for the last minute cancellation, but I have witnessed many on here have success. This year is unique and I don't know what it will be like getting a day at a time. I suspect it will be a bit harder than prior years.

@himandher818 congratulations on being a Grandpa and ungrounding yourself from disboards and camping.

I hope you were able to accomplish a lot. You can tell us all about it next month :P

This is how wonderfully boring my life is now in retirement ......

My local Publix grocery store got its first shipment of rhubarb overnight and put it out this morning and I got a bunch (10#)!

Right there in the Produce Section I broke into a spontaneous happy dance:

I got enough today to make six more pies (bagged it and froze it already) not counting the one I'm making for tonight. Hope it's enough.

Rhubarb only grows in cool weather up north and our stores down south hardly carry it if at all. It has a tart flavor but with some sugar in a pie it is superb. Produce guy said they'll get some in for about a month and then that's it for the year.

Bama Ed

PS - my love for rhubarb is one of the Mid-Western things I brought with me to the south in 1976.

PPS - may have to sneak back into the store tomorrow and get some more. Just in case.

Ed, good score, not out up in Yankee land yet. Our favorite is rhubarb and strawberry crisp, sweet berries really work well with tart, mom always had rhubarb in the garden..

@team bradfield,

DW and I were discussing if how it grows only up north, how is it that our son in Pennsylvania hasn't seen any yet in HIS stores?

https://bonnieplants.com/how-to-grow/growing-rhubarb/

Apparently most of the commercial rhubarb sold in the US comes from Washington, Oregon, and Michigan. But growing up we had some plants in NE Ohio that we harvested but mid-May is probably too soon for that region.

And, honestly, I've seen recipes (pies, crisps, compotes) with some strawberries mixed in but for heaven's sake, if you're going toward the tart end of the scale, go FULL rhubarb and add sugar.

And tapioca.

At least that's what I did.

DW and DD were too full from supper to have a piece tonight but I had mine. PHABulous!

Bama Ed

PS - might sneak another piece tonight while I watch the Bama-ND "Rose Bowl" (from Dallas) four months ago on the DVR. Hey :confused3 it's the off-season, what can you do otherwise?
