As FYI I wanted to mention that I visited the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY this past Sunday afternoon.
I went up to West Point, NY to attend a football game at the US Military Academy (Army beat UConn easily) on Saturday and my Dear Son from NEPA came over and did the game with me. Then on Sunday (while I was up that way, ya know

) we swung by the HoF and toured it. Both were items on my bucket list.
As a long suffering Cleveland Indians fan, I grew up being a fan of the Cleveland Browns (NFL) and the Cleveland Indians (MLB). Both were perennial losers although the Browns had a pulse back in the day. But who knows when I'll have the opportunity ever again to be so near Cooperstown so I thought, "heck, let's do it".
Cooperstown is devoted to baseball. I think it has only one stop light south of town down near where the CVS and grocery store is. The short Main Street has the Hall, a post office, the town hall, and a number of stores related to baseball. BB wax museum, card shops, equipment stores, plus some food places. There are fields in the area (one big one) that cater to out-of-town kid baseball teams of all ages that want to come play in Cooperstown (and they probably visit the Hall.
I was glad I visited after Labor Day. The weather was beautiful and the crowds were low. During summer they operate satellite parking lots outside of town and free shuttle busses to bring you into town and drop you at the Hall. The Hall is primarily 3 floors with the ticket windows, gift shop, and plaques being on level 1. Then memorabilia and displays (and a nice theater with a brief movie) on floors 2 and 3.
I wore my Indians jersey to the Hall (as many fans wore some clothing of their favorite teams - lots of Yankee fans since we were in NY state). This was me at lunch after our visit:
They have lots of memorabilia. My favorite was the uniform, cap, and shoes/socks that Babe Ruth wore in this famous picture when the Yankees retired his number in summer 1948:
He died two months later.
I've been to the NFL HoF in Canton, OH and seen the busts and so I went to Cooperstown and saw the plaques:
As an Indians fan, I sought out Bob Feller's placque. He was a Cleveland pitcher over 3 decades starting in 1937 at the tender age of 17. He stopped his successful baseball career in 1941 to enlist in the Navy for 4 years and served on the USS Alabama now a floating museum in Mobile, AL. Then he returned to baseball for over a decade.
He often lead the the American League or MLB in wins and strikeouts. He retired in 1957 and was elected to the HoF in 1962 along with Jackie Robinson (both elected in their first year of Hall eligibility meaning they were very deserving). People speculate about what his career stats would have been had he not missed those 4 years. But he was adamant that he did the right thing at the right time.
The plaques on the first floor are in a long gallery with the original class of 1936 (with the Babe) and the more recent folks in the far gallery. Folks inducted in-between are on both sides of the gallery.
If you're a baseball fan, I would recommend visiting if you are anywhere near the area. I enjoyed my visit.
