As FYI just made a 2 week reservation at Gulf State Park to try to attend the 2022 version of the Gulf Shores Shrimp Festival. The 2021 version was cancelled in early September when a pandemic surge was in our state so they made the decision to cancel. Wouldn't you know things have improved dramatically since then and case rates are falling across the state?
But what's done is done so they will try again in 2022 to hold the 49th Gulf Shores Shrimp Festival and we will try to attend it. The campsites along my favorite section of Live Oak near the lake were already pretty booked up. For you past Gulf DISMeet attendees, if you know the corner site that
@tiggerdad typically (magically) got every year, I have the one to the RIGHT of it which was where
@SouthAlabama5er sometimes was. So across the road from the lake but back against the mature tree line ( meaning "afternoon shade"). With the Comfort Station (updated) at my back.
The Shrimp dates are in the later part of my reservation window and I will trim days up front that I won't use but I'm psyched about possibly attending the Festival. Heard a lot about it, always wanted to go. I hope they offer $mall $ample$ to nibble on and something to wa$h it down with
ala the Food & Wine Festival at Epcot.
The early/mid dates of April and October offer probably the best weather possible on the Alabama Gulf Coast (which is one reason why the Shrimp Festival picked that time of year nearly 50 years ago).
I'm gonna probably learn new ways to prepare shrimp while I am there.
This will be me (quite happily I might add):
Carry on with your future camping trip planning.
Bama Ed
EDIT - PS to add the the Shrimp Festival is always the second full weekend of October (but it starts on Thursday so 4 days long). So I was booking a year+ out to get a good spot at Gulf. I wasn't very clear on that above.
