Members of the DIS Academy, I am proud and honoured to be here tonight to present the DISCAR Lifetime Achievement Award.
As I stand before you in my lovely, black
understated Carolina Herrera dress (trying to keep in line with the more subdued approach because of the war in Iraq)
I am pleased to announce the winner of the DISCAR's first Lifetime Achievement award to

Peter Werner!!
I won't be announcing anything that Pete has not stated publicly himself, here on the DIS when I say that as a recovering alcoholic and drug abuser, Pete decided to visit Walt Disney World for the first time 7 years ago with his dear friend, Neil. It took one visit for Pete to become a fan. A HUGE fan! Disney World filled a niche in his life and became part of his recovery, with the joy it brought to him. On June 1, 1997, on a whim, he started a website dedicated to Disney World for Disney fans, the Disney Information Station or the D.I.S. No one was more surprised than he, when after a very short time, he had had 100 hits on his little hobby project!
So this hobby grew and grew. The one board went to three, and then to six, and so on, and so on, until present time when we find ourselves with 42 discussion boards and well over 2 million posts! The Disney information on the site totals over 1000 pages and is constantly evolving to keep this the best, most up-to-date Disney Information site on the net.
But it is the boards that provided the opportunity for the community to form. And form it did. Over 47,000 people have found this website and I doubt that one person has left without learning at least one new thing. The DIS is "home" to many. It is like Pete has invited us all into his living room (a rather large living room) to sit, put our feet up and shoot the breeze. And talk. Talk about anything and everything, Disney or non-Disney. Many deep, long-term relationships have formed from this site.
A business has formed from this site. Dreams Unlimited Travel was formed to help DIS and Disney fans plan their dream vacations with people who have the same love and passion for Disney, as they do.
So, for all of this. For the friendships, for the advice, for the sharing, for the information, for the support, for everything DIS, we say thank you to you, Pete. Thank you for giving life to this wonderful place where we can just hang out and know that when we need a helping hand, we can find it. Thank you for keeping it going in the tough times. Thank you, Pete.
Please join me up here on stage to receive your special DISCAR Lifetime Achievement award.
Big hugs and love you buddy!
