I need to run out and get a sympathy card for my former co-worker whose wife died. They're having a 'celebration of her life' today, and I was going to go, but am not going for the lamest reason ever: I don't want to go alone.
A friend was going to go, too, but couldn't make it; and DH didn't want to go, but said he'd be fine staying home with the kids if I really wanted to go... So I wimped out.
So anyway, I'm going to send a card, and also contribute toward a fund for the family at a local bank. They have two small children, so I'm not sure if the fund is for funeral expenses, for kids' college fund or some sort of memorial perhaps?
It breaks my heart. And you know what she died of? Pneumonia. I don't know the details, but that's just so shocking to me. People get pneumonia all the time, you just don't think of it as deadly, but of course it can be.
