OK, so I've forgotten a few classics, which made me think... what is the ULTIMATE 80s VEHICLE LIST:

A-Team Van
General Lee
Ecto 1
Delorian
Batmobile (maybe a bit more 70s)
KITT
Ninja Turtles Van
Mystery Machine

Let's see what else we can think of...

Truck from The Fall Guy
Firebird from The Rockford Files
Faces Corvette from A-Team
Cars from the movie The Wraith (Turbo Interceptor)
Merc from Cobra
ZZ Tops 32 Ford Coupe

I am looking to do a summer vacation - and unfortuatley we are not doing Disney this year. ::MickeyMo We will return next year after much of the Fantasyland expansion is done.

We are talking about taking a road trip to Washington DC.

Looking for advice from those who have been there... Where to stay? what to do? etc...

How many days should we go? I know there is the Smithsonian museums... are they to boring for kids?

Looking for any advice....

And if there are any DISdads there, would love to meet ya at the White House. :thumbsup2

We went to DC last year and had a great time. First I’ll second what has already been said: “Do not drive in town”. It is much more affordable to stay on the Virginia side of the Potomac and use the blue line to get in and out of town. Fed’s suggestions for lodging are probably the best ones, but just for comparison, we stayed in Alexandria at a place called “Washington Suites”. It’s on older apartment building that was converted into a hotel with kitchenettes (it’s also popular with folks working on various diplomatic staffs so we meet a number of folks from a number of different countries). They’re located several blocks away from the metro station, but they run a regular shuttle.

The Tomb of the Unknowns really is a must if you have the time and there are a number of bus tours that will take you all around the major point of the city. There are a number of different Smithsonian museums, so there are a lot of different experiences to chose from. How old are your kids and what interests them? If they like animals, they’ll probably like the Natural History Museum. The American History museum has many different types of artifact to get into, so that may work well to. There are a several museums that are run separately from the Smithsonian that might also be good. I know there is a Childress museum and the “Spy Museum” is quirky and very popular.

Did you have any thing specific in mind? Holler back and I’ll dig into my books and maps and see if we can’t get your questions answered.

:lmao: speakin of which, do they still have that old relic out there trying to coach football or is that an audioanimatronic of old joe?:lmao:

Yes, JoePa is still, somehow, coaching. I'm pretty sure he'll die on the field. I'm not kidding. After that happens, if some had their way, they would make an AA out of him and put him on the field. It's ridiculous. They almost lost Brady this year to sPitt. And if JayPa gets the head job after Joe's departure, I'm going to be Peanut Butter Beverly!!

oh boy, i hope i didnt tick indy off. making a joke about joe pa in that end of the state dont go well. every fall, before the coll. football season starts, they watch joe pa walk across water to go into beaver stadium.:lmao: there not like eagle fans who can take a joke.:lmao:

You didn't tick me off, I was distracted by all these Super Bowl trophies we have out here. You know, shiny objects. :thumbsup2:rotfl2:

I was actually at soccer and I'm finally getting on the comp. :surfweb: The JoePa respect is still there, but the demagoguery has faded. People know he needs to go. Unlike many PSU fans, I CAN take a joke. :thumbsup2

I've learned to take Eagles jokes with a grain of salt, not so much with Penn State though.....WE ARE>>>>>

PENN STATE!!!

I knew we'd get along. . . .

Cheers,
Indy

Yeah that will be there forever.

Go Birds! I'm worried about them getting rid of Kolb.

I'd recommend the National Art Gallery. It was free last time I went and there's a lot of famous paintings that you can walk right up to. My 10 year old loved it.

My wife's best friend just got engaged this week and they've asked if my kids can be the flower girl and ring bearer.

Oh, and the wedding is going to be in Disney World. :woohoo::woohoo:

I think Fed and Rob's advice was right on. The Metro is by far the best way to get around town, and easily reaches all the important destinations. The only things I'll add is that there are a few museums that aren't free but might interest you: the National Holocaust Museum (not for kiddies), the Spy Museum, and the Newseum. All are fairly close to the Mall. Ford's Theater is also a short walk from the Mall. If you want to go up in the Washington Monument, your best bet is to go to the National Park Service website for the WM and reserve tickets--they get reserved months in advance and go very quickly.

OK Dads - I know some of you guys also hit the beach in Myrtle Beach.

I'm looking for some good ideas for family activities for our trip in 3 weeks. Keep in mind I have two girls under age 4.

We've been there many times in the past....but I'm always looking for successful ideas!

Thanks in advance! :thumbsup2

My boy's are 16 and 11...and we just spend most of our time on the beach...then go out in the evening for a meal and some shopping...I'll keep an eye out for things to do...as I leave for Myrtle Beach tomorrow morning.

We went to DC during Spring Break 2010. We had rooms at the Best Western - Pentagon. Was nice enough just had went thru a refurb it looked like. And we had free shuttle service to a Metro Station where you can take a quick ride to anywhere you need to get too.

Some of the most impressive thing we did were...in no particular order...

The Capitol Building Tour.
The Amreican History Museum.
Vietnam Memeorial wall
Korean War Memeorial
WWII Memeorial
The Air and Space Museum at the Udvar Hazy Center...a few clicks West of DC...something like $14 to park...but worth the trip. Link

Also I would recommend you buy one of the National Mall tour bus passes...as your feet will thank you.

I did a mini TR back in DDC IV... Starts the last post on Page 49 and continues for a few more on page 50. Link

That's rough. Don't people understand that they can't burden their friends with sharing such a special moment with them? Especially at such a magical place as WDW.

I'm sorry that your gonna HAVE to go to WDW again soon. . . ..

Cheers,
Indy
