Awesome News, Tiki room is indeed going back to the originial format:cool1:
It's been floating around as a rumor for awhile, but now is confirmed:worship: Wow it will be like going to a whole new show:woohoo:

Jim Dowd used to live on the next block from me, used to talk to him all the time:goodvibes

He graduated HS the same year as me. Everyone always told me what a great guy he is.

My Jim Dowd story. We played against Brick our junior year in the state quarterfinals. They were beating us 1-0 after the first period. In the second period, he had 3 goals and 3 assists and we lost 8-2. They ended up winning the state championship and he was the state's leading scorer. He was drafted by the Devils the following year. I basically sat on the bench and watched him that game. I don't think I played a shift. He was like watching a ghost - our guys could not touch him no matter how hard they tried. He was the best I ever saw up close. He played in the State Championship game against a friend of mine named Ken Blum who was drafted two years later. Although I never was on the ice with Dowd at the same time, I was in uniform on the bench and saw him do his thing. I wished I had half his abilities. Great memories.

If I want to see hockey in April, it's a given.:rotfl: Actually, the OHL provides good hockey for a lot cheaper, and there are lots of future stars to watch. I stick with Toronto in the NHL, mainly out of loyalty, and I don't want to be a bandwagon jumper. I stuck with them through the horrendous '80s, and was rewarded with a few good runs in the early '90s (92-93 was SO close) ....eventually things will be rosey again. Maybe....

As a former PeeWee OHL player, I agree. :thumbsup2

I had played back in my day for the Thornhill Thunderbirds. I recall playing in a few tournaments against the likes of Eric Lindros when he was on the Petes.

I miss good junior hockey down here state-side.

It appears that congratulations are in order for everyone who's been participating in the Dis Dads Podcasts. It was brought to my attention that the podcast has made the iTunes "What's Hot" list in the Places & Travel category - a list of the "hottest" (and I'm not sure how they measure that) 120 podcasts in the category.

Thanks everyone for all of your support and participation!!

Congrats go to you first of all Aaron as the "Dad" of the podcast.
Second congrats goes to Josh for his efforts on the editing board!

He is a real nice guy:goodvibes My sister used to give me Devils Hockey items, and I would take them to his house and he would always sign them for her, she has a nice collection of Devils items 88-96

I remember when I was young and we drove to WDW, we used to pass a ton of places that sell oranges in Fla, and in VA you could buy smoked ham, seems like you really have to hunt for such places now:confused3

We always bring my dad back a big bag of oranges home when we go to WDW, but the places to buy them are few and far between, these places usally have the best selection of random Beverly going:yay:

We're happy to have you on a future podcast - everybody showed up, we just had a couple of guys running late. Thanks for volunteering!

Thanks for letting me be a part of the podcast. I realize that there are 600 dads to choose from, but it was funsies.
*note* Skype: easy enough to install (for now. I'm looking at you, Microsoft) so if any dad is hung up on this (like I was) don't be. prattpak & ajritz were patient enough to walk me through the process.

Depending on the reviews of my "performace" as it were, I'd love to do it again. (so long as the supreme commander galactic McAwesomeville is okay with it.)

You can blame Jack Frost. Years ago many of the major orange producers were between Ocala and Orlando. Driving south on the Turnpike in probably the only hills in Florida you passed through huge groves. I always loved driving through that area when the blossoms were out. The smell puts Soarin to shame. Florida got hit with a bad cold snap that devastated the trees. Many replanted thinking it was a once in a few decades cold spell. A couple of years later another one hit and killed off the replanted trees.

They said BEVERLY to this and replanted the groves south of Orlando. Now they are located in Indian River, Ft. Pierce, St. Lucie area. There are still stands along the 95 and Turnpike corridor there but not as many. You can even get free samples and order fruit at one of the Turnpike rest stops. You can also blame the Internet. Many producers sell their products on line instead.

A couple of my favorite professional(minor league) team names, from baseball and hockey:

Albuquerque Isotopes
Casper Ghosts
Lansing Lugnuts
Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs
Macon Whoopie
Montgomery Biscuits
Savannah Sand Gnats
Vermont Lake Monsters

Alexandria Warthogs
Albany River Rats
Austin Ice Bats
Odessa Jackalopes
Shreveport Mudbugs
LUbbock COtton Kings

Don't knock the IronPigs 'cause they're in first place! They're name comes from the local steel industry (Bethlehem Steel, etc.) and I actually voted for it a few years back. I haven't followed MLB since the strike in the 90's but I do like to take the 20 minute drive to Coca Cola Park to watch the Pigs. Very entertaining and everything is reasonably priced. Give me the minor leagues any day. The Pigs are always one of the top drawing minor league teams in attendance, if not the top. By the way, pig iron is the intermediate product of smelting iron ore with a high-carbon fuel such as coke, usually with limestone as a flux. GO PIGS!!! Oh yeah, I do like that name Macon Whoopie.......do they have Whoopie Cushion give-away night? :lmao:

I just walked in and my wife was working on her laptop with the Disney Site up and a word doc open in which she was creating a price comparison matrix. Just one more on a ginormous pile of reasons why I'd be a dang fool to have an affair.
Hold on now, she's almost a keeper. A price comparison matrix in Word? Switch her over to Excel - then she's a keeper!

Congratulations to Aaron and everyone that is involved. I've listened to all of them and they just keep getting better. One of these days I'll remember to get a headset and join in!

We have an outside vendor in at work yesterday and today. I've been busy babysitting him and haven't been on here much. But the worst part was when someone mentioned to him that my boss is on vacation. He asked where and I told him Disney World. He responds "Disney World? That's not a vacation! Too expensive, too many people, always running from one thing to another and never getting to rest." Clearly, he's not one of us.

What's worse: Being on God's Beverly List, or your DW's? I'm not really sure.

And DW reads along with me, so she rolls her eyes at me laughing at the comments and Jasmine photos.

DW sometimes reads along, depends where I am sitting at the time, and if she does, certain forums are skipped over.:rolleyes1...I'll take my chances with God, he is more forgiving...:littleangel:

Opens right before we get there, providing it doesn't get pushed back again, so it'll still have that new-attraction smell (or of smoked poultry, either works:rotfl2:)

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it'a off to work I go....

. :thumbsup2

Really struggling with a dilemma for DS. He is interested in trying out for a classic soccer team in another city. He loves playing with our current home town team, but they play in the challenge league, which is a step down from classic. Just don't know if we want to fork out the extra $$ to go up a group, but also don't want him to miss an opportunity to get some better coaching (not saying that our coach is bad; on the contrary, he is great) and to play against some significantly better competition if he were to make the team. The better competition would be great for him, and to be honest, would probably knock him down a notch or two (which wouldn't be too bad right now as he feels that he is invincible on the soccer field). I told our current coach that we would be interested in playing next year with the home team, but we will also have to play up another age group (to U12), and if we manage to make a classic team, we could be with our U11 group like he is supposed to be.

Any advice?? I'm just torn to staying loyal with the local folks, but also want him to get a chance to advance if he wants to (and he does).

I'm not a fan of travel leagues at this age, so know my opinion may be slanted. You are having play stronger competition and move up an age group. Is he ready for that?

I still appreciate people like this. Less crowded for us! :thumbsup2

‘Morning all!

First…
:welcome:
To all the new members (600 now… impressive)

Now where was I? Oh yah…
I have been living the life of a mushroom for the past couple of weeks, but I can finally see a little glimmer of daylight peeking out. If it weren’t for the TR I’m trying to get through before the next trip I’d have been in complete Disney withdrawal. :sad2: Did I miss anything really interesting (as I wasn’t planning to roll back though all the missed pages)? Maybe I can keep up for a bit now. :surfweb:

We did have one of those little Disney Magic moments when all our Cruise and Resort documents and paperwork showed up on my boy’s birthday. :woohoo: Excellent timing. Now all we have to do is finishing up the planning & packing and count the days (Lord I need this trip).
