We have always driven...typically 10 hours starting at 2-3AM.

But this last trip we left at noon and had a 1 night stay in Daytona....may do this on future trips...gives us 1 more day for parks or whatever.

Last time we drove during the day and stayed at my aunt and uncle's place on the beach in Ormond Beach. It was nice but my son complained about how long the drive was (because he usually sleeps through it all) and it was, overall, very tiring for me. I prefer to drive at night because it's a lot nicer and easier on me. A lot less stress anyway.

Duct tape and Benadryl :thumbsup2
Benedryl- the $6 babysitter.
I kid! :lmao:

Actually...when my kids were younger...they were very good travelers...just takes about 20 miles and they are out like a light...they get it from their mother...she sleeps allot when we travel.

Me I cannot sleep while anyone else is driving. <---think about that.
Me too, unfortunately I can sleep when I'm driving

Our drive is only 10-11 hours but we have family in St Augustine and Port Canaveral and we usually see them the first day. We typically leave in the evening and drive to Savannah and then drive the rest of the way in the morning. Coming back it depends on if our last day is a park day or not. On this last trip our last day was a cruise day so we left after breakfast and drove the whole way home.

Thanks Barry - that definitely saves the hassle of having to check car seats. My girls do well sitting on laps and would do fine without their car seats.

Actually, I don't think they allow car seats in the busses even if you wanted to. We didn't bring our car seat for my 3yr old DD for that reason.

I think we have the trip down ok, it's the trip home. We usually arrive in the early AM after driving all night. We check in and they text us when the room is ready. In the meantime, we either stay at the resort pool and swim, shower, and go to DTD, shop, and eat whatever is open - usually Fulton's. I drive most of the way and can nap poolside, all of us may nap if room is ready, or just go to bed early. The day leaving is the bad one. We have staying at the parks until late, leave parks in afternoon, evening, stay for breakfast & leave - they just don't work. I know it's the end of the trip and that's why it stinks, but I want to find an easy trip home as well.

I left at midnight then updated Facebook with hourly update pictures from our GPS app on the iPhone. It was pretty cool. I started getting sleepy around 0300 but when I started watching the miles count down it got easier. I was WIDE awake during the trip through Georgia (aka: the construction state) as there was pea-soup fog and construction everywhere. Navigating that at 70mph was a blast. :drive: :scared:

It's always under construction, going on 10 years. I think that is the speed trap plan - random construction zones. Where else are they going to put all those orange barrels?

Yeah but when you factor in going through security at MCO the car drive is almost faster.

Actually that seems to be true for about any airport. While you might think that they'd streamline security procedures as they learn better ways to implement them, it seems to be quite the opposite.

You guys must look a lot more shady than I, as I've never had that long of a wait or hassle going through security.... ;)

I actually laughed loud enough that the secretary who's desk is outside my office came in to see what was up.

I think you're right. No seat belts = no car seats.

I had checked into this before we went on a trip to WDW a few years back. The Florida law states you do not have to use a car seat in any vehicle for hire. So taxis, town car service, buses, etc do not require a car seat.

But if you rent a vehicle to drive, then the car seat law applies.

Finally a place for us! I can't believe I've never seen this page before! Been posting and lurking around Disboards since August of 2010.

Maybe it's the Tali-fan t-shirt I wear when I'm travelling.:confused3
The security line at Orlando just seems to be particularly long.

In one of the podcasts you mention how bad security is at MCO and then said Denver is the only thing thats comparable. You got an AOL (amen out loud) from me on that. I'd put Dulles pre-redesign in that group too though.

We also drive. It is about 12 hours. We usually leave a couple days before check in, spend one night in the Pensacola area and the next night near WDW. We are ready to check in at about 9:30 am. Our rooms have always been ready upon arrival. We spend the morning of our departure day is spent at DTD, leaving there at about noon. We will get a room on the way back if we need to.

Been trying to convince my wife to drive down for one of our trips, stopping at DC on the way. She refuses to be in a car with me for 22 hours though. So we'll be flying...

I could never drive. I did do it back when I went for my 21st birthday. (Yes, I turned 21 at midnight, on the Disney bus to Pleasure Island. Adventurer's club how I miss you! the one and only time I got to go.)

Now however, I can't do it the cheap way of pulling over to sleep. DD wakes the moment I try, I can't drive straight through without some sleep, and I don't see wasting time and money on a motel/hotel in the middle. Why not just fly down and cut two days of travel down to a few hours? :confused3 But, I am not the best of drivers in the first place, so it is safer for all if I don't drive long distance without another adult to talk with. ::yes::

I always thought that driving down the coast and stopping at different sites along the way would be fun, but I don't know if my DD and wife would enjoy it as much. Maybe we'll do it someday when the kids are older...

Good luck on day 1! I'm sure the day will fly by for you.

the morning flew by, after lunch it came to a screeching halt, but I survived.

Good luck.

Thank you, been a long time coming

Endeavour's last launch is at 8:56EDT. I'm watching it online at
http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html

About an hour into the day, I was called outside to watch the launch. "Really, you didn't have to launch the Shuttle to commemorate my first day, but I'm honored. BTW, we didn't see squat behind the clouds

Have fun storming the castle. Hope the first day goes well.

storming castles was always more fun when it was the girls dorms....oh well.

Ok, first day, success, and get this guys, there is another firm sharing the office with us, they are actually starting to wind down and close up shop soon. Now, my firm strictly works in medical architecture, but this other firm which is only 3 people, does commercial design. Anyhow, that other firm had some of their drawings out. Yep, I got a peek at some future Disney work.....nothing exciting guys, don't worry, facilities / office stuff but still kind of cool to get a peek at it

Are you just adding some smack talk referring to me by me Nemesisisisis name? (I'm Brian, my nemesisisisis is Mark). :rotfl2:

As for the Bulls / Heat. I'll let the Bulls do the talking for me. They seemed to say quite enough last night.

As for Mickey D's.... um....no. :sad2:

Brian, sincere apologies. How could I mix you with your nemesis? Chalk it up to a brain fart.

Glad you don’t want to talk smack; I feel it demeans the good sportsmanship between fans of rival teams. Except of course in the South during college football season. BTW, have you heard this one: A Bulls fan, a Knicks fan and a Miami fan enter a bar…

I agree McDs is out. Wendy’s is much better.

If I had a bunch of time off work, and money to just wander, I would love to drive down to Disney, maybe detuor through ohio and see some caves along the way. but I don't think DD would go for that yet, or even if she ever will. :guilty:

Still I would totally be floating if I could do so. :cloud9: I wish Sea world was still in ohio.
