well, im at the 70 day mark till we leave. got the bags out and im starting to get things together starting today.:woohoo:

The other day I needed to go to the emergency room.
Not wanting to sit there for 4 hours, I put on my MAGIC GREEN HAT.
When I went into the E.R., I noticed that 3/4 of the people got up and left.
I guess they decided that they weren't that sick after all.
Cut at least 3 hours off my waiting time.
Here's the hat.

Can you sell those hats next! :lmao:

A shirt with "FEDERAL AGENT" in Big letters across the back tends to draw attention in certain environments (which is, of course...the point):rolleyes1

Or maybe one of Fed's shirts?

Nate... when are you gonna make an orange tye-dyed DDC logo? :confused3

Okay,

I got in a little trouble for posting this "publically" on facebook (from my DW), so I thought I'd vent more freely here.

Had my son's end of the year PPT today (this is the big meeting with the school principal, teacher, special ed staff, psychologist, OT, etc where you review how things are going and the plan for next year). He transitioned to the 5th & 6th grade school this year, and all year, my son's teacher has not been on-board with the plan. He's one of those "I-don't-really-believe-autism-is-real" guys who thinks that if you just crack down on these kids, they'll be fine. Been a pain in my *** all year. My son is extremely intelligent, but definitely has autism so cannot relate to social situations, doesn't not unstand non-verbal cues and "freaks out" with chaotic and unstructured environments (such as the ones that occurred all year). It was like we were back to square one, 4 years ago before his diagnosis. A real nightmare!

Thank God for the wonderful special ed teachers, occupational therapists, speech therapists and school psychologists who have managed to piece together a support system for my DS even without this ******* on board with the plan. It got so bad, that since December the principal had my DW and myself on his calendar for an hour every month to hear us complain about this teacher. That has been gratifying, too, since it is not lost on this guy's boss that he's an idiot.

Fortunately, I am very blessed to have a good friend who is also a developmental pediatrician (and autism specialist) who we brought to this meeting today. He really smacked this teacher down today. It was a joy to behold! If any of you have to endure PPTs, I highly recommend bringing an impartial friend (who is not the parent). When I have to conduct family meetings at work (on the other side of the fence), this is what I recommend to families. If nothing else, it makes it seem less like a pile-on.

The only upside to this year is that it has continued to bring us closer as a family, and in particular to bring DW and me closer. I know that often these diagnoses break families apart, but fortunately, we have not sufferred that fate. And like my friend the developmental pediatrician says, every good school year is like money in the bank. Well, it wasn't a good year, but it could have been a lot worse.

Thanks for listening!

CRUD just got back from Disneyland, it was awesome and I have 45 page to read. I'm on page 53, I'll catch up with you all in a few days.
Welcome back! I hope you had a great trip.

Sorry to hear about the rough year with your son's teacher. I'm just glad you were able to take the lemons and make lemonade from the situation. Maybe in the long run this meeting will help put things in perspective for that teacher and make life a little easier on the next family that comes through in your situation.

This was one DW put up as an option when mapping out the ADRs. We try to add a few new ones each time. The ADR is for 9:30, we don`t really want to do any early-early wake-ups, we found it too hard on the girls. The plan is to get there just before 9 and DW and the girls head over to H&V, and I will head over and grab the fastpasses for TSM and meet them there. I know I`ve heard a lot of mixed reviews of H&V, but it`s breakfast buffet. If you`ve got bacon, sausage and buscuits, I can`t see any negatives:thumbsup2

Your girls are little I would presume, they have Jo Jo Galiath kind of dated but they get to sing and dance around! You will just LOVE it!! :rotfl2:
seriously the food is great.

Thanks! I sincerely doubt that this guy will ever "get it", but you never know. Finding it hard to be Christian to him right now...

I do and thanks for the encouragement! And apparently, you married very well :thumbsup2

MAN! I take a day off to spend with my family and have to read 15 pages when I get back! WOW!

Hoookay - here we go:

Heh. I remember when two of my friends used to argue over who had the better computer, the Apple II or the Commodore VIC-20.

Yep.

I'm old.
I was rockin' the Vic-20 on a 13" b/w tv with casette tape drive and an external 5.25" floppy. My favorite game was this moon lander game. Ahh - the good old days.

So...what is that one sound that sends you to your happy place at WDW everytime you hear it?
The Christmas ambience music @ EPCOT. Or the sound of my kids screaming at ToT. Probably the first one.

Need a good ftp site...hmmm who might have one of those we could use?????
Hmm... yes. I wonder... lol

LA CASA BONITA FOR OUR FRIEND!!!!! Nah I wouldnt do that to you. Food poisoning doesnt go good with altitude sickness.
Where you booked at. Thatll give me a better idea of whehter to just throw something on the grill or come closer to your hotel.
Dude, seriously? This is someone we LIKE! lol

I was thinking more in the lines of Cheesecake Factory, Chophouse and Chez Jose's.
2 votes for Chez Jose's! Have a fat tire for me!

Hey Guys

Sorry to be a downer here this evening. We have had a huge tragedy today and I need you all to remember a special family from our church in your prayers. The Father and 2 children were on the way to watch 2 older sons play a baseball game for their High School and they were hit head on. The Father was killed and the children teenage girl and 8 year old boy were lifeflighted and are both in the or right now with ruptured bowels caused from the seatbelts. In addition to the ruptured bowels...The daughter is also unable to feel anything from the diaphragm down or unable to move and we are told she has broken bones in her back but I am not sure what part of her back. The youngest son has a borken jaw and multiple facial lacerations. Please send prayers up for this family. They are a very special family to us!
Prayers sent - we have a friend who lost her husband and 6 yr old daughter a few years ago in the same way.

On a lighter note: A couple of days ago, one of the cars had a dead battery and I had DD help me jump it. It kept stalling out and took a couple of times to get it running. Today after school, one of her friend's car was dead and she was the only one that knew how to jumb start it (including the boys that were assembled). They were impressed and she felt pretty good about it.
Taught my daughter to change oil when she was 10. Thermostat and brakes at 11, then shocks and springs at 12. Now she does our brakes unsupervised @ 14. My wife blew her engine at 17 because her dad never informed her about oil changes or things like that. As a former mechanic (well, former PAID mechanic) I wasn't going to let that happen.

Ahhhh - yeah. We only get our cut of sales out of Amazon's own products. There's no affiliate cut from the Amazon Marketplace (3rd party sellers).

Go ahead and buy the hardbacks - like I said, it's just there as an option. If we don't have what you're looking for, by all means, buy it where you can get it!
This is a GREAT idea!

My wife and I work for the Miracle League of the Triangle and work with children like your son for 18 weekends out of the year. Your story is not uncommon but it helps when you have a wide base of other families which support eachother. Are you doing any kind of external therapy? We know of a few cool ones in this area (Horse and Buddy, for instance) but there are likely the same kinds of options in your area. You can also look into something like Miracle League as a way to connect with other parents.

I'm glad to hear that your family is growing closer through this time. I've seen issues like this become toxic for some families that are too interested in themselves to focus on the needs of the family as a whole. It's good to see that you're strong enough to put yourself aside for your family. :)

*PHEW* With that done, what now? Oh yeah - what we did yesterday!

For those who don't know, my kids are involved with a program called the Young Marines. We do a lot of fun events together and help out wherever we are able. There is a program here in Raleigh called the "Flight of Honor" which honors WWII veterans by taking them to DC to the WWII Memorial and brings them home with honors. The plane gets an arch of water as it taxies in, there's a full band to welcome them, and a lot of people show up for it. Last night there were about 3,000 people in attendance.

So, what were we doing? The Capital City Young Marines (our group) were tasked with one simple job - salute the veterans as they come by. It was FANTASTIC! Easily one of my favorite events that we have been part of. There are two more this year and we're participating in both.

My pictures

News story - the 1st video shows a kid with glasses saluting - that's my son. When it swaps to a behind shot of his head you can see a veteran saluting him. Super awesome!

Is this as good as the Memorial Day presentation or Veteran's day parade/dinner service? Not sure - but any chance I get to honor our veterans and current military personnel we take every opportunity to participate.

Thanks, Ian! That looks like a wonderful organization! We've done a number of external therapies, including adaptive skiing and bicycle riding (both of which I never thought he'd do!) and are always on the lookout for more. Scouts has also been a great growth experience for him in ways I could not imagine going in. We're probably going to take the plunge to a therapy dog this year, and our school psychologist (who runs a pet rescue) is keeping an eye out for a good one. There's one at the school that has also worked wonders.

My DW has become the local parent that our school refers parents to with new diagnoses. She gives what I call the "talking-them-off-the-ledge" talk to mothers who have gotten a diagnosis. Interestingly, I have offered to do this to other fathers, but never have gotten a call. She substitutes at school but mostly as a paraprofessional since she's so good with special needs kids. She has also looked into getting a type of Special Ed advocate certificate that UCOnn offers, but they keep cancelling the program every year since only a couple of people sign up each year.

And thanks again, guys, for letting me vent

Anyone remember this?

Speaking of UCONN's win against Arizona in the elite 8.

Would you like to make a small wager on this game?

Remember this?

November 25, 2010

LAHAINA, Hawaii - A week ago, one might have considered this a trip for UConn to merely survive.

The Maui Invitational wasn't supposed to be a springboard to national prominence, Hawaii wasn't necessarily supposed to be Kemba Walker's personal playground and, put simply, the Huskies weren't supposed to do what they did over the last three days.

But a nation's eyes have been opened to the offensive brilliance Walker, who scored baskets as if he was casually chucking stones in the Pacific Ocean. And all else followed.

The unranked Huskies on Wednesday streamrolled No.8 Kentucky in the Maui Invitational championship game, 84-67, before a wild crowd of 2,400 at Lahaina Civic Center. It was their second victory over a top-10 team in as many days. And just like that, UConn (5-0) has reclaimed its spot among the nation's elite teams.

"This is not our season," coach Jim Calhoun said. "This is a great step for us. It's letting people know we are Connecticut, we have been Connecticut for the last 20-something years, and we think we have a pretty good basketball team."

Oh, UConn is going down, so you better think of something. And, I'm not tipping that delivery driver. Yeah, I tried to Google an authentic CN food dish, and I couldn't find anything. Moonlite BBQ has fed two presidents (Bush 1 and Clinton) and made locally. If your team gets lucky enough to win (or Calhoun pays the refs enough $), I'll ship you some BBQ pork or mutton. They seal and freeze it, so it ships well. It is served best on hamburger bun, pickle, and onion (if you like onion). I'll let you add those locally.

hummmm..... I can send you some made in CT maple syrup that my brother makes

POINT BEING.... has anyone seen AirGoofy since UCONN whipped Kentucky up a week and a half ago??? I am kinda worried for him. :confused3

And I was wondering what's up with my BBQ? :lmao:

Thank you for the compliment. The right tiles at the right time make all the difference.

In other news, I've edited the podcast recording schedule, and moved some of the recording dates to Tuesday instead of Thursday. If you are interested in volunteering to be on the podcast, please check the updated calendar. I've got dates and tentative topic outlines posted for shows through the end of June.

Our next show is set to record a week from tomorrow, with a focus on Disney's Hollywood Studios. At this point, the panel is wide open. In addition to the DHS topics, I'll need someone to be interviewed for the 10 Questions segment and someone with an upcoming trip to do a trip preview segment.

Aaron, I emailed you at your disdads.com address to express my interest in participating. I am not sure if I acknowledge the existence of 5 rides in AK, though... I also have an upcoming trip in the first half of May.

Also, I am Ericasco on Words with Friends, in case anyone is bored.

If you like Barbeque.....:thumbsup2

Wait... there are people who don't?

I think when we do the Animal Kingdom ep, we'll be talking about top 5 attractions, instead of just rides. And I interpret "attraction" rather broadly :teeth:
