I went to visit my Grandmother in ICU this morning, I'm glad I did, dhe has since passed

I am very sad but not mad, she was 90 and lived a full active life, I'm sure my Grandparents have been reunited.

I'm glad that I'm not the only person whose mind immediately went to bacon when I read the "make everything better comment". Doofensmirtz could make an amazing universal-better-inator with the right combination of bacon and explosions.

I'm sorry for your loss. My grandmother died a bit over a year ago. The Bug was pretty amazing about it. She just said, matter-of-factly, that "dead" meant she was gone and she wasn't coming back - but that she could always remember her. She did have a couple of "moments" in the following months, when it hit her hard and she would get upset for a day or so. But kids bounce back remarkably well.

Never underestimate what a child knows/understands about death. We gave the Bug the choice of coming to the funeral or not. She waffled back and forth a few times, then decided to go. I think she ended up more upset at seeing my brothers and I cry while talking about our grandmother than she was by the funeral itself.

Anyway, this is the list of places that pretty much my whole family would recommend to anyone who wants to visit Denver, listed in order of our favorite restaurants that we miss. The bank I work for recently bought a bank in Denver and our guys were there a lot so I assembled this list for them.

queso bonitos made the list of the top 10 tackiest tourist traps in the US for some travel mag. Unless you want a good case of Montezuma's revenge STAY AWAY!!
As far as Jose Oshea's ...if Stacy did a "Must-Do's" for Denver this would be on it. The food and the atmosphere make this place amazing!!

A Family member of mine just got home from their week at Disney.His comments about Disney was, it is overrated.
I tried my best to explain to him that is may be overpriced but could never be overrated. I guess there are people out there that just cant seem to see or feel the magic of Walts dream!!

I get this response from a lot of people and it seems to usually boil down to one of 2 things.
1. For some people vacation = sitting on a beach, no plans, with the beverage of choice in hand. I think for that type of person a Disney vaca particularly at the wrong time of year, is nothing but stress.

2. Some people don't realize that Disney, like much of life is not a place where you can just show up and meander around and get the most enjoyment out of it. I think this is particularly true if its your first trip. You wind up so heads down just trying to figure out what you want to do, and how to get there that you miss much of the magic. It takes a little planning to ge the most out of the trip. (Or in some of our cases month of planning, multiple pages of notes, that cross reference estimated wait times from different sites and a color code spreadsheet)

I can honestly say after my first trip there, if I wouldnt of found the disboards I would be 90% sure I wouldnt go back. I read on here how to plan for the trip, how to plan for meals, how to plan your day in the parks, and a lot of little fun extras. Im sure if I wouldnt of read them that there is very little chance I wouldnt have 5 successful, fun trips under my belt and a 6th trip coming up that will top all those before it.

My condolences to your family. I'm glad you got to go see her one last time. A long life well lived can leave quite a legacy.

My grandmother passed away in early January. My son 8 understood more than my daughter 5. I didn't know my grandmother extremely well, but I was struck at the funeral by how much she is reflected in my children.

These are both very true. But part of it also, just comes down to everyone is different. Plain and simple. We tell our kids that all the time when they argue about something so silly as Kool-Aid tastes better than Hawaiian Punch - or whatever. Everyone has their own ideas of what they enjoy or like to do. And yeah - MANY people just don't "get" the Disney experience.

This kind of topic comes up often over on the DVC boards, where a lot of folks talk about co-workers or family members (or whoever) who like to question WHY so and so is going back to Walt Disney World (or Disneyland) AGAIN... never mind that most times that same co-worker goes back to the exact same vacation spot year after year - whether it's the beach, or the mountains, or the lake, or, or, or.

A lot of us go in to our adulthood taking those experiences from our childhood and simply replicating it. A prime example I will cite is my mother's sister's family. My uncle grew up being taken from infancy along on the family vacation to the Sacramento River delta. They would stay in little cabins, and take their boats out and water ski the day away. He grew up doing that year after year. When my aunt entered the picture, he invited her along (the summer before they married), and they've been doing it now every year since themselves (44 years now for my aunt... 66 years for my uncle). They raised their daughters to do the same thing - who have both been married 10+ years, and their husbands enjoy it now too, along with their kids.

At the same time - NONE of those relatives ever understood the appeal that my family enjoyed from our annual vacations up in to the Sierra Nevada moutains. Staying in a cabin along the lake shore, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, campfires, etc, etc, etc. NOR do my cousins "GET" the appeal of going to a Disney destination year after year like my wife and I enjoy. Sure they enjoy going to DL for a day... but they just don't understand the multi-day appeal of it all. Conversely - I don't get the appeal of waterskiing day after day after day for a 10 day vacation either. Sure it's fun for an afternoon... but not 10 straight days of it. I'd much rather hike through the woods, or climb giant rocks, or build a campfire during that time, and go in the water once or twice.

I've found that it's best to be honest. Using the "better place" analogy doesn't mean a lot to a 5 yr old. You'd be amazed what they can actually deal with. If you're Christian it helps a lot because if he's in Sunday school he'll already have an understanding of what happens after death.

I keep asking if my work will send me to Denver and I keep getting shut down. Mostly, I think, from fear that if I DO go they'll never hear the end of how much I miss it. Though I could really go for some rellenos at Jose's right now. Grr..

Everybody's different...

We have a cabin in Northern California that our Great Grandpa willed to all of us Grand Kids. We went there every summer for many years. Then we found WDW!! My family continues to question our sanity as to why we would spend X-amount of dollars going to Florida when we have a free place to spend as much time as we want in California. None of the have experieced the world as we have. They all have been to the Land but not to the World.
We enjoy being in the World. The sights, the smells, the sounds all reak of joy!!
