OH my:scared1:
A Family member of mine just got home from their week at Disney. His comments about Disney was, it is overrated.:scared1::scared1::scared1:
I tried my best to explain to him that is may be overpriced but could never be overrated. I guess there are people out there that just cant seem to see or feel the magic of Walts dream!!:confused3

I had a coworker who was there at the same time as me last April, every time I asked him if he needed a hand planing he said he already researched everything he needed. I finally ran into him on the 3rd day at about 4:00. So far that day they had:
-Gone to Universal, paid for parking, then were dumbfounded when told tat Universal was not a Disney Park so their Park Hopper pass wouldn't work there.
-Waited an hour for Splash Mountain. When I asked why they didn't get a FP he said they didn't want to pay the extra money for that type of ticket.
-Then told me they were planning on heading out at 8:30 so they didn't get stuck behind all the people who stayed for the fireworks.

When he got back to the office he told everyone it was a waste of money because you could only ride 3 or 4 rides in a day because of the lines.:confused3

2nd Ownage today!!

How far out of Denver are you, Mark? I have to be in Denver for a conference May 16-19th.
DOH! Looks like I'm going to just miss a chance of a Midwest DIS Dads meetup. I've got a case that looks almost certain to go to trial, with trial set for May 12!

If he just got back from a trip last week, and he doesn't have any context from prior trips or being a part of the Disney community, I can see why he might have that attitude. Crowds last week were really rough. People were posting about 180 minute wait times for rides. And with all of the construction underway in the Magic Kingdom, I bet the crowd crush feels even worse than usual.

Chris im in Westminster which is 15-20 minutes out of Denver. Where is your conference?

It's at the Colorado Convention Center. I'm staying at the Hyatt Regency Denver. Are you around? I think that I'm free any of those nights (May 16th, 17th or 18th).

Yep. Trial in Denver. I'll probably stay at either the Westin Tabor Center or Denver Marriott downtown.

So, will you be gone by the 16th? Or too busy?

It'd be fun to do a meet if you and/or Mark can!

If Wrong = Awesome, then yes, it is very, very wrong.

:rotfl:

I thought bacon made everything better? Explosions certainly don't make bacon better - they waste bacon.
Eating bacon while watching explosions? Now that's a good time!

:lmao: :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Now see what you did... I gotta’ replace another monitor (reading this thread is hard on my P/C)

My older brother is one of those people that just doesn't get it. Doesn't like the drive to Disney, doesn't like the crowds, doesn't like spending money, doesn't like "rides". He went with us back in 2006 where it was my Family of 4, his family of 4, and my Mom/Dad. When we returned he said the only way he would go back was if he were to fly and stay on site with dining and everything included...for cheap.

Back in early January his wife DSIL asked if I could look up what special would be available for them the week of March 20. Gave her several options...she had also told me they had AAA...so I told her to go see them too as they may have other discounts that I didn't know about. He was like...yeah but what am I going to do...SIL patted him on the cheek and said "Dear...this trip isn't about you." :rotfl2: Way to go SIL. :thumbsup2

AAA must have had something better than I could find...cause they are going for a very short trip arrivng at WDW around noon on Mar 22...flying out March 26...think they are staying at on of the Value resorts and have the QSDP...he hasn't been too forth coming on the details.

SIL and DNephew like the coasters...while DBro and DNiece may have to sit out of those...I told him he could take her to find all the princesses and look for hidden Mickey's...he was like "What's a hidden Mickey?" :sad2:

I've made a Calendar for him showing all the park hours...made a list of Rehab and closings...so they know not to expect certain attractions...gave him hints about FP's (particularly TSM and Soarin)...told him how th Dining plan worked...suggested a couple of quick service resturants at each park...told him of Dole Whip... Any other suggestions. :confused3

Denver Marriot is right up the street from the Cheesecake Factory!! Good of a place to eat as any!! Actually has an amazing menu. We frequent this establishment often.
Ill make the time if you guys want to meet up

I ALWAYS grab a map... basically every time I walk into the park. I really don't need one, but I feel like I should be carrying one at all times. Maybe it is so that I can pull it out of my pocket and know that, yes, I am really at Walt Disney World.

I don't need them either, but do grab at least one myself. It makes for a nice (free) souvenir, as well as provides a glimpse in time. It's fun to go back and see what things were like in prior years. Over time I've diminished the collection when there have been multipe visits in a single year - and identical maps - but if there is a difference on the inside - I like to keep them. They also go into our family scrapbooks. (We do one for each trip... Some trips have their own book, while other books have multiple trips in a book. As you might imagine - our scrapbook shelves are ever expanding... :lmao:)

I'll have to scan the oldest ones I have to show the artwork then vs. the artwork now. It's quite amazing.

Suggest that he stays home and gives you his tickets as there truly is NOTHING FOR HIM THERE!!! :rotfl::rotfl:

Scan it and make it your background on your desktop. That way the happiness is always present.

I collect the maps every time I go...just like looking at them. I actually do need it when I'm at HS...I get lost in that place. especially back in the Muppet, LMA area...also have a hard time finding Pixar Place. Never been able to spend a day at HS.

All right Dis Dads I am coming here for help. I have planned a surprise trip for my daughter (5) and myself for the end of June. Booked CBR but not sure that is the best moderate choice for single parent with daughter in tow. Size wise will it be too much? Food selection?

We stayed at CSR in December and really liked everything about it except the bus service. Am I crazy for trying something different or is there a better moderate resort for a daddy/daughter trip?

You'll be fine. I think all of the moderates are great places to stay.

If Wrong = Awesome, then yes, it is very, very wrong.

:rotfl2:

Well, I think we all agreed that bacon and cheese make everything better. Except when a food can only be improved by adding chocolate. But you're right: blowing up bacon would be a sin.

So maybe the rule should be: all entertainment is improved by adding explosions.

That is a good thought... however if you saw my office - or even our house... you'd know that wasn't truly necessary :lmao:

I actually enjoy just looking at the maps. Maybe I should get one on the way out of the park (so it isn't crumpled up) and have it framed. :rotfl2:

We do that too! My wife likes them for the scrapbooks. I'm simpler. I'm a guy, therefore I think maps are cool. :thumbsup2

My official list of places to eat in Denver from a Coloradan who is now trapped on the muggy east coast. GRR! Anyway, this is the list of places that pretty much my whole family would recommend to anyone who wants to visit Denver, listed in order of our favorite restaurants that we miss. The bank I work for recently bought a bank in Denver and our guys were there a lot so I assembled this list for them.

I present, the Shepard Family list of good eats in Denver:

1) Old Spaghetti Factory 1215 18th St., Denver, CO 80202

Yes, it’s a chain, but it’s a good chain and given that the closest location to us here is in Nashville, I’m pretty sure you’ve not been there. You get a free dish of Spumoni with every meal and it’s always affordable. Their baked lasagna is simply out of this world, and if you want meat instead you can’t beat their Chicken Marsala. When asked for dressing for your salad ask for bleu cheese with the balsamic vinegar on the side – when it arrives, add the bleu cheese first, then the vinegar. YUM!

2) Sam’s No.3 1500 Curtis St, Denver, CO 80202

If you ask either of my kids which is my favorite restaurant in Denver, they will instantly tell you “Sam’s No. 3”. While I’m more old-school in terms of my choice in location (preferring their original location on Parker Road), the downtown location provides the same great food and atmosphere. They specialize in, well, everything. From Mexican to American to Greek, they carry almost everything you can think of. For breakfast, the Kitchen Sink omelet will keep you full until at least 2:00 or later. Their green chili (which is a must in Denver) is some of the best I’ve had anywhere. They have some pretty good Huevos Rancheros, but not nearly as good as Jose O’Shea’s (Sat/Sun only).

3) Las Margarita’s 1035 E 17th Ave, Denver, CO 80218

While it’s not “downtown” and kind of in a scary area of town, this place has the BEST Sunday brunch around. As a warning, this is not Tex Mex style Mexican food – this is actual MEXICAN which means that it carries a little heat but not a lot of flavor. This was right around the corner from where my wife used to live and we ate there all the time, esp on Sunday mornings. Dee-lish! OH! One last thing – if you want a margarita, don’t get the house margarita. Any of the others are fine. Personally, if I’m at a real Mexican restaurant I order a Dos Equis dark or a Fat Tire. Wait, did I not mention Fat Tire? It’s born and bred in Ft. Collins, Colorado and is, by far, the best beer I’ve ever had. Strongly recommended that you try it. You know, if you drink at all.

4) Le Peep 999 18th Street, Denver, CO 80202 (my wife and mom demanded this be added)

This is a breakfast/brunch restaurant with a wide range of really good food. Their stuffed French toast, pancakes, crepes, and omelets are very very good.

Outside of Denver:

1) Casa Bonita

I’m not including an address because I don’t recommend going. This is where every Denver tourist comes at one point or another and while it has a lot of atmosphere (cliff divers, guy in a gorilla suit, Black Bart’s cave), the food isn’t all that much to write home about. If you’re in town with family, then it’s worth it. The fresh sopapilla’s with honey inside are DEELISH, but that doesn’t warrant a trip.

2) Jose O’Shea’s 385 Union Blvd Lakewood, CO 80228

When I asked my wife about places to eat in Denver, this is the first one she thought of. This is another classic Mexican restaurant, but arguably the best in town. This is where we’d go for real Mexican food. I strongly recommend the “Authentic Chile Rellenos”. If you’re in town over a weekend, their Saturday/Sunday brunch is pretty good. The #1 seller is the Huevos Rancheros. You’ll notice that most things in Denver are smothered in green chili, that’s for a good reason – it’s really good.

Menu: http://www.joseosheas.com/menu.html

I think that’s about it. Share it with whomever may be going next but as a guide from a Coloradan, this is pretty much my go-to list of favorite restaurants in town.
