DW just showed me some cool "Tangled" toys that she will be using for our DD's Tangled themed party (her birthday is 3 weeks from today - while we're in WDW). Yay. And the movie comes out on DVD just days prior to her party. All is good with the world... at least for right now anyway. ;) I've already started thinking about the cake theme - and yes, there will be a tower.

So okay guys...

as you'll recall, we're going to the World in about 3 weeks - and it's a non-parks trip. While there are plenty of things to do in the world to occupy our time - several of which we'll be doing - the boys have asked /are wanting something to do off-property for one day. We are not doing a theme park - so US or SW or any others are not an option. We've been to the Space Center before, and we've been to the ocean just once as a family. (I've been to various beaches in Florida over the years but not the family). We've done Medieval Times, and a few of the little things on International Drive as well.

If this were YOUR trip, and YOUR kids asking... what kinds of ideas do any of you have for some kind of a nice, off-property excursion? I have some ideas already, but thought I'd just open it up to some others to see what other things might come up... that we haven't already thought of.

We might not even venture off property - I just want to be armed with options in case we do.

Thoughts?

The only things I can think off is Gatorland (if it's still there:confused3), and Old Town in Kissimiee.

On our Honeymoon we stayed at a time share near Old Town, There are fish in that area that walk on land (only saw them at night) they kinda looked like a catfish, I think they were called mud skippers:confused3

My son actually asked me about Gatorland... maybe we'll have research that a bit closer.

We've also thought about Mark's suggestion of St. Augustine... we'll see. We talk about this kind of stuff at dinner each night - so I wonder which things might spark their attention.

We've done WDW so many times - but really haven't ventured out in to Central Florida as a whole too often. A few times, yes, but generally it's WDW, US or SW. I've been to FL on business many times, and have explored other parts of the state and really enjoy it but they haven't. One of these times we need to go and use our DVC points to stay at Disney's Vero Beach and really get a good feel for "non-Disney destinations."

Chris,

We like the Daytona Beach area for a little R&R. It's only an hour or so away from WDW right up I-4. Most of our time spent in Daytona is food and beverage with some sun time. But obviously you could go and check out the Daytona 500 track.

We also like to catch a home game to see the Daytona Beach Cubs play ball. If you're lucky enough to catch a Monday home game - it's "Belly Buster Monday". For $10 you get a ticket into the game and all the hot dogs, pizza, popcorn, and peanuts you want to eat! :thumbsup2

That sounds cool too. Thanks.

Anyone use this Olympus Camera ?

Regular $279, on for $179 this week...?

Thoughts?

I use it for work, and that camera is amazing. We have two that go out on patrols in Afghanistan almost daily, and they last. We have definitely put it through the ringer, and it repeatedly comes out on top. The picture quality leaves a little to be desired (you will not be seeing your photos in natgeo for instance) but the price you are paying is for the unstoppability (yes, I made that up) of the camera. The pics are still really good, but if you are looking for super hi-rez stuff, you will need to go else where.

St. Augustine has been mentioned. In addition to all the things people have suggested about it, they also have a pretty good Disney Outlet (disney character premier).

Cocoa Beach is not that far from Orlando. Ron Jon, the beach and Port Canaveral are all pretty close together.

Someone else mentioned manatees. There are a couple of springs, where you can get in and swim and see manatees. I got the opportunity to try that once in college and it was really neat. I think this is the park we we did that.

Cocoa is the one beach they have all been too, when we did the Space Center. Ron Jon is a cool place, though that would definitely interest my nephews more than my own kids. My wife and daughter might get a kick out of the outlet.

All good suggestions... definitely making a list for discussion purposes.

I know... I came into work a couple of hours late this morning.... just about the same time it really started to get nice out. Really can't wait till I can get out of here again.

I was up in Elkhart and what a day for a drive....

While I was out my Camera broke. It's a Canon PowerShot A560 - just a simple point and shoot. Well now when I turn it on, the lens doesn't come out, and it makes a clicking sound (like the gears are stripped or caught). It's a couple of years old now.

So I need a new camera. I don't want to spend a fortune (looking to spend between $150 -> $200).

Any recommendations for a GOOD camera in that price range?

As always - thanks Dads.

Our local target is currently clearing out all their camera's. I believe they had the Canon SD1400 for about $150. They don't have them online anymore though. DW picked up the Nikon s205 there for $80. The nikon is okay, but its performance in low light isn't great.

We grilled for the first time this year. :cool1: I don't mind grilling in cool weather, but DW does. So when she's making dinner - if it's cool out she won't do it. I took command of dinner tonight and we grilled. So nice to be outside.

There's something just relaxing about cooking over a flame. Are you a charcoal or a gas man?

DW just showed me my Disdads shirt on skype. She said the image quality of the large graphic on the back is the same as the smaller image on the front. It seems like the image quality message vistaprint was showing didn't matter.
