There's something just relaxing about cooking over a flame. Are you a charcoal or a gas man?

Gas.

I love to sit down with a cold drink while the food cooks, and just enjoy the fresh air. I put in a brick patio a few years back, with a nice firepit. I love sitting out there throughout the summer time enjoying a roaring fire. The kids love to roast marshmallows and the like too.

I need to finish the deck portion of the yard this year. My original plan was a tri-level, tri-surface environment - between the original concrete patio at one height, the brick paver patio at a lower height, and then next to both a raised wooden deck to be a permanent home for the table & chairs. I got the footers poured for the deck, but never actually got it built. That's one my to-do list this spring or summer.

My DW has a nice set of wicker furniture that she wants to be able to spread around and not have to scrunch it all together with the table & chairs on the two existing surfaces. We like to entertain in the backyard during the summer, and she's tired of my unfinished patio project. I am too honestly - so I've been pricing out the materials needed to get it done. Hopefully after WDW I can get started on it...sadly our weekends are filling fast through June... so it might not happen until after Summer Camp (third week of June) - but at least if I start purchasing the materials and stack 'em - that will spur me on to get it finished!

That patio sounds like it will be awesome when it gets finished. A large pile of wood staring at you is always good motivation.
Firepits are awesome. We love roasting hot dogs and marshmallows on ours. On a side note if you like peanut butter try making smores with reese's cups instead of hershey's bars.

I've been planning on extending our deck, but other stuff always seems to take a higher priority from a time or a money perspective.

*there is not actually a clown fish in this picture. There were a lot of jellyfish though.

If this were YOUR trip, and YOUR kids asking... what kinds of ideas do any of you have for some kind of a nice, off-property excursion?

If the season is right, you can pick your own oranges at Showcase of Citrus. Take a ride up the elevator at Citrus Tower to get a good view of all of the groves. Not sure if Cypress Springs is still in business. NASA has a tour if you're into the space thing. There's always the beaches on either coast.

DW just showed me my Disdads shirt on skype. She said the image quality of the large graphic on the back is the same as the smaller image on the front. It seems like the image quality message vistaprint was showing didn't matter.

That's good to hear! Mine shipped today!

Off topic:

Anyone done Scout Wood Badge training?

Ooh, we'll have to give that a try! I love peanut butter cups!

Good news! Mine is on the move again in Jersey after the USPS misdirected it for a few days. It may or may not ever get here! :confused3

Any other dads signing up to be at WDW for Marathon weekend next year?

Not next year, but hopefully 2013. I'm currently focusing on getting in to shape for a trek to the Philmont ranch with the Scouts in summer next year (in New Mexico)... but want to do a marathon after that.

Sounds nice. I am a gas man also. When we were having our house built, I had them install a gas line that teed off from the fireplace. It is conveniently hidden in the brick pillar on the back porch. I use a natural gas grill with it and I am so glad I will never have to worry about running out of gas in the middle of a grilling session (I have had that happen before when I used propane.)

One day I would like to make an outdoor kitchen, but for now I wil settle for my gas grill and electric smoker out back.

Oh yeah...running out of propane. No fun!

One day I want an outdoor kitchen too. I'm trying to get our outdoor spaces as user friendly as possible. I'd like to go away from a temporary cover too, to a permanent roof system but the bank account won't allow that anytime soon. At the very least a pergola, but the deck comes first.
