Thanks for the welcome!

A bit about myself, I'm a minor radio personality (aka "disk jockey") from Northeastern WI. I'm a huge Star Wars fan, but I'm also a sucker for Disney. I have a 3 year old daughter, who people are convinced is beautiful despite her resemblance to me (but she certainly is, so I must have done something right). DW is a preschool teacher who is bubblier than any Disney character out there and a self professed Princess fanatic (with a Villain-fancying dark side). We've got two female cats, Autumn and Maude, and I'm fairly certain DD's fish and snail are females too. I'm awash in estrogen, so it's good to talk Disney with other dudes. (And none too soon, I've been caught tearing up watching the Travel Channel special about Disney at Christmastime).

We're looking forward to our trip to WDW in a few weeks, it will be DW and my first trip since 2004, and DD's first trip ever.

Especially, tearing up about Man v Food .... I was a wreck watching him go after about 72 oz of steak the other night!

dw and i were sitting here watching the weather channel and couldnt believe it. there buying all the bread,milk and eggs in the stores. there all worried about power failers and its only 7 inches of snow. do they have snow plows in ga? i know when i was a kid, my aunt in in lathonia ga and her grand kids never saw snow. flurries and a bit on the grass but nothing that built up. good luck,keep us posted.

I’m with Fed. I our neck of the woods, a storm like the current predictions will shut down everything, but I too will believe it only when I see it.

As for snowplows in GA, I can’t say, but in SC, there as rare as hen’s teeth. Generally there not worth the investment to the local townships so we usually just wait the couple of hours that it takes for the stuff to melt. In severe cases, they'll send out motor-graders to clear a path for the major thoroughfares. The neighborhoods and side street are pretty much on their own.

The fun is watching the locals run around in preparation for the “Snow Event”. They also invade the various retailers. The optimistic ones run out and try to find sleds. But most invade and empty the grocery stores of the staples (which down this far is also referred to as “the three Bs”… Bread, Beer and Batteries)

Rob, when I was a cop in SC (Greenwood) we had regular snowfalls--still made our lives miserable, and no plows south of Greenville

The three B's... I love it. I've never understood the rush to go out and buy bread, milk and eggs. Give me some water, a jar of peanut butter and a spoon and I can hold out for a day or two.

We could use a good snow storm around here. We melted off and then got about an inch or 2. Not enough to sled with, not enough to even mess with plowing the driveway, but just enough to make everything slicker than snot. I'd rather have 4 to 6 inches over 1 or 2 anyday. Deep snow gives better traction and it tends to discourage some incapable drivers from hitting the roads. And if they do drive they will likely get stuck in a drift somewhere before they have a chance to slide into me! Speaking of which... I learned something during the snow we had before Christmas. The new Camaros are incapable of busting through a snow drift. I think if I had one, I'd have left it at home to begin with if I had to leave a mainroad.

I worked a grocery store in High School & some in College and always loved the snow buyers. KY has had some big snowfalls, but few in comparison to other areas. But, when snow was announced, it was busy and people would fight over milk & bread. I had a manual transmission truck, which was a lot of fun to drive & slide in the snow. Ahhh, the memories ...

As a proper south’ner, you gott’a respect the 3-Bs. The beer part is self-explanatory and the batteries are to ensure that we can, not only watch the telle, but also be very certain that the remote won’t go out on us (cuz’, getting up to change the channel ourselves would be a lot like work). And… Lord knows that we’ll have enough meat in the fridge and freezer to survive for six months, but making our own bread for that sandwich would also be a lot like work and we don’t much cotton to that idea.

Just got some bad news about my dad's cancer. I'm not an oncologist, but i know that if they're starting you on a drug that hasn't even been named yet, then that's not a good sign.

So, I invited him & his wifeto join us on our April trip, thinking that this may be the last time he could do that. They agreed and I couldn't believe how blessed I was to be able to change 3 nights of dining reservations from 5 to 7 people (with only minor shuffling)

But now he just called. They can't come the dates he wanted, so now I have to try to change them back & try to reschedule for later that week!!!! After I finish banging my head against this wall, I'm going to try the site again. wish me luck...

It's always funny to watch the mad rush for the stores whenever snow is announced. I guess the bread, milk and eggs just means you absolutely, positively cannot survive a snowstorm without french toast.
