I wear regular tennis shoes - I think they're Asics. I get the ones in the "walking" section of the shoe store. It's rarely very hot when we're there, so I don't worry about them getting too sweaty.

Merrell's dude...hands down. By far the best "hiking" type shoe around. Not boots, but the shoe cut. I wear the Radius model, which is all leather, no running shoe type material on them. They last forever, and that includes pretty heavy use in Iraq as well (though I wore boots for heavy duty stuff).
I found that running shoes, while light and give good support for running, "give" a little too much (if you know what I mean) when walking and standing around the theme parks (which subsequently makes your feet hurt).
The hiking shoes have a little harder rubber which, in turn, provides a better support base, which in turn makes your feet comfy...

Why yes Yes there were Terrible raised to the power of Beverly Id say. But, from a stand point of letting the kids get involved with decorating the tree (without them also acquiring the opportunity to break the fragile glass ornaments) these silly things at least served a purpose. But, my word, those things sure mad for some seriously ugly trees. Of course, we were young, so what did we know about it. My brother and I were really only looking at the boxes and bags under the tree at that point in time anyway.
Oh wait I found a small image of the stuff in use. Now just imagine and entire room sized tree all decked out in your best holiday finery and then mercilessly covered in this schlock. Oy
She thought white lights were "classic". I said they were "boring", and everybody else had white lights, so there was a same-ness going on. In the end, we agreed on colored lights on the tree and white lights outside. Although I got some colored lights on a tree outside last year, so maybe I'm rubbing off on her. 
All these tinsel pictures are giving me nightmares! I remember my mom having us picking up each strand individually for re-packaging when the tree came down. The horror!
I had an interesting dilemma when I got married. I was a colored-light guy and my wife was a white-light gal. This was an issue that required pre-marital counseling.
We've been using white lights but need to replace some strands. We want to go with LED's for outside the house and one of the trees inside but have found that the white LEDs tend to not have that "classic" white look at all and aren't even necessarily all the same "color" if that makes sense. I'm thinking I'll be hanging some color LEDs outside this year since they look better than the white ones.
Sounds like my mom with tissue paper and gift boxes.

I use Saucony shoes. Back when I used to run (read: when I could see my feet) I fell in love with them and have used them ever since, budget permitting. Now, there's a HUGE group on the DIS that swear by Crocs, but I just can't quite get my mind around walking around in a sponge all day long.
