My new Logitech headset arrived today. I finally got a chance to play with it for a few minutes after I got The Bug to bed. Looks like it's going to work great. While testing it, however, I did discover something else interesting - have you ever tried saying, "DISDads Podcast" out loud? It's much, much more of a tongue twister than I'd imagined. It took me three tries to say it without a mistake the first time (though subsequent tries were easier).

I think that I've posted this before, but I'll be glad to help with a podcast on occasion. I only have the plug type of microphone, but I've done some stuff with it before and it worked out pretty well. Just let me know what you need me to do.

I spend most of my perusing in the Theme Park boards.

But I stumbled across this, and quickly realized I AM A DIS DAD!

So I request the honour of joining this elite club.

I am 39 from Canada, and as the name suggests I have 2 kids ages 8 and 6 (born in '02 and 04).

More info to follow.

I'm not Canadian, yet I happened upon this thread as well. I too, am a Dis Dad not yet in the club. So at the risk of sounding like my 5 3/4 year old DD, please, please, pretty please can I join your club!!!

I promise to do all of the newbie initiation type things without complaint. I'm a great beer wench! If part of the initiation is to dress up like a woman, my daughter insist that I put make up on once or twice a month, so I am ready for that.

If you do accept me I guess you should know a little about me:

My name is Garry, I'm 30, I live in Ohio, I love football, I love MMA, I make my own beer, I play softball, I work as the Transportation Coordinator for a day-hab for adults with developmental disabilities, and I'm awesome.
I have been married for 6 1/2 years to my wife Brandy who is awesome!
I have one child, Katelyn, who is awesome!
We are going to Disney World in 96 days, which is SUPER AWESOME!!!!!

..also, I like the word awesome.

So, anyway, I hope that I can join the rest of you Dis Dads....
....it would be a-w-e-s-o-m-e!

Welcome to both of you. If you need a beer sampling volunteer, I'll volunteer for the job :thumbsup2

Dave, I think that we'll be at WDW in June at the same time, but we've now moved our resort to OKW instead of AKL. We're hoping to get a cancellation at Boardwalk (we're on a wait list), but if we don't, I'm sure that we'll run into each other a bunch on site.

Making your own also is acutally the first step towards the Canadain Initiation.
The difference though, between American beer and Canadian Beer is - we put alcohol in ours. :rotfl2:

I made a bourbon porter that would change your mind about the alcohol content of American beer. By the way, I LOVE CANADA! (just not at EPCOT) My wife and I have been to Niagara 5 times and my bachelors party was in Windsor. I've never had a bad time with a pocket full of Loonies!

Side note: Anyone going at the end of May? We will be celebrating my daughters 6th birthday at WDW.

Side-Side note: I seen something about Dis Dad Tee Shirts. What is that all about?

the line about canadian beer was funny, so I kept it.

there DIS dad's t-shirt has a link on page 1 (i think). Zazzle.com had let a few of the Dad's print t-shirts. Stopher1 has one, I think. They're pretty cool.

My random topic: for my 29th birthday, I inherited a student acoustic guitar. Now at 32, I'm thinking of getting an eletric. But, a cheap one. If anyone's looking to part ways with an mexican Fender or Epiphone just to get it out of your basement or garage, let me know. :thumbsup2

I can't imagine being 20 and winning the Daytona 500. He better be heading to WDW and enjoying all the perks!

DisneyFed
Looks like my good vibes for Junior didn't work out.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Well, that's racin'.....Never would've seen that kid winning though...sometimes it just falls that way!!

I'll take lucky over good every day and twice on Tuesday:lmao:

On another note...Kevin Van Dam won the BassMasters Classic...Again:rotfl2:

Okay, guys, my younger daughter just had her 4th birthday, and upon measuring her height for this milestone, we found out she was 40" tall. This means that the whole family is eligible to ride Tower of Terror. Mwahahaha. :scared1:

My question is: At what point did you subject your children to this ride? I have seen people go on with kids right at the height of the measuring stick, but I have no idea who those yahoos were. I know who you yahoos are. Any thoughts?

My DD was excited when she found out she could ride ToT the first year we took her (age 5)... but when she got to the boiler room she started freaking out. Should have bailed out then.. but got her through the queue anyway. Then she was fine until the stars came out... oh boy... she didn't stop crying during the drops. Should have seen the "poor baby" looks she got from the other riders... and the "How could you??" ones I got :confused3 Pretty badly shaken, but not broken.
The entire year she was bragging to her friends how she was brave enough to ride it... and we ended up riding it 3 times in a row the next year. She's good-to-go now:thumbsup2

I think you have to judge you child. My DD was 4 and a 1/2 when we went last. We had visited other theme parks with her and she had ridden many carnival and fair rides before our trip. She had also been quite the risk taker as a baby/toddler. We measured her before we left and found that she was about 38.5" tall in her shoes. Big problem for us as she had seen Splash Mt. and was dead set on riding it. So we fashioned some lifts for her shoes out of replacement insoles and headed for WDW. Hollywood was our 4th park to visit this trip. She had rode everything else without hesitation. When we told her that the ToT was the only big ride she hadn't rode, my wife and I were o.k. when she said she wanted to ride it. She was scared a little after boarding, but said she enjoyed it. She never cried, thankfully. After it was over I got those same "how could you do that to that baby" looks though. I asked if she wanted to do it again. "Maybe the next time we come to Disney World." She said with a half squinted face while slightly puckering her lips and shaking her head no. Here's how she looked during the drop!
DisboardsTowerofTerror.jpg

She still seems to like going fast and scary! Just judge her body language. You'll know if she is ready.

That's what Dad taught me! :cool2: :thumbsup2

Hey, it works.....LOL My bosses HATE it when I say that...my Agents just roll they're eyes and walk out of my office:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Anyone else "grounded" today....I had planned to go fishing, I mean it's mid to high 70s, but 35-40 mph winds and Lake Wind Advisories cured that.

Guess I'll just hang out and plan a surprise Disney Vacation today!!:idea:

On the topic of the big race yesterday, I'm kicking myself right now... I knew that Bayne would be fast with that Rousch/Wood Brothers car but I was stupid enough to leave him on the bench in the fantasy league so that I could start Michael Waltrip.:sad2: I figured since he's running 17 races I'd save him for later and use Mike at Daytona.

We always welcome new Dads, even if they're from Canada. It does help to have thick skin though because you probably will be made fun of, ridiculed, etc.

Why do the new guys insist on calling us "elite". Trust me, Twokids, a day and a half from now you'll realize that if elite means fart joke, then, yes, we are the eliteiest. Welcome to the Club!

Welcome to the Awesome Club!

Daytona 500 over. 20 year old driver wins the race. I could beat him in Mario Kart.
:lmao::rotfl: Those darn banana peels get me every time!:headache:

I tried it again this year. I watched about 5 minutes of the race. It looked really good on the big screen HD. Turned it on just as they were replaying that big wreck on lap 29 (or so). But it just couldn't hold my attention. I started channel surfing and came across the Red Wings / Wild game. Nothing like OT and a shoot out to keep me glued to the TV.

By the way, my wife has a cousin on the crew of the #43 Best Buy car driven by AJ Allmendinger. I don't know exactly what he does, but I'll see if I can find out.

On another note...Kevin Van Dam won the BassMasters Classic...Again:rotfl2:
Do you know what the fish said when it ran into a wall?
Dam.

Hahahahahahahaha:rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

I've mentioned it here before, but it bears repeating, otherwise the rest of my post won't make any sense. My wife's parent's live about 45 minutes away from Disney World. And since we live up in Wisconsin, our kids don't get to see their grandparents that much. So, whenever we plan a trip to Disney World, we never keep it a surprise because when the kids start to miss grandma & grandpa, we always have a date to fall back on and say "well, we'll see them in June" or whatever.
Well, as I said a few days ago, we're spending Easter with my Aunt and Uncle in Houston this year. We had planned on coming back home on the Wednesday after Easter and spend the rest of the week around the house. We decided instead to fly to Orlando for four days, then home. And we decided this would the the perfect time to surprise the kids with a trip to Disney World!
They know we're flying to Houston, so they won't question why we're packing bags or driving to the airport. I'm hoping they don't pay much attention in the Houston airport when they announce boarding for Southwest flight 2202 to Orlando. If they do notice it, we'll just pass it off by saying we couldn't get a direct flight. I can't wait to see the looks on their faces when the realize they've been had and we're sneaking in a trip to the World!:woohoo:

Are you doing the Fantasy League on FLW?

Hey guys! It's been a crazy few weeks for me, with a little posting here and there - but not as much as in the past. I've been busy of course with family stuff... including pulling off a surprise party yesterday for my DW's 40th (tomorrow). I'm working on getting some pics up on my FB page, and might share a few here as well. It was a "wilderness" theme, which is her absolute favorite place to be having grown up camping in Yosemite National Park all of her life before we left the state of California (and our favorite resort at WDW too). I've been working on it for the past 7 weeks, and yeah, she had no clue. As her suspicions started to flare up, I went on the offensive and sent out all kinds of conflicting alternate messages just to mess with her head. Let me tell you the aggressive tactics worked and she had no clue. So 75+ of her friends and local family (cousins) were able to be in attendance to honor her. It was awesome.

And finally ... Welcome New Dads!
