I thought I heard a bus driver say that it was a rule that Dis Dad Club Member #104 had agreed to pay for all Dis Dad Club Member cruises. And, you can't ever go against the bus driver rumor. :stir:

We've never been on a Disney cruise. DW went on a Carnival cruise with her friendss and said that they all had a great time. One of the friends was a cruise veteran, and she gave them all pointers about smuggling alcohol aboard, how to roll swimsuits in the towel to dry them, and a few others. DW really wants to go on a Disney cruise, but with 2 children, that is a lot of points to use. Maybe one of these days unless #104 steps us and fulfills the bus driver rumor.

Who wants to go and make this a Dis Dads cruise!!! Anyone else up for it???

I would love to except June is the worst month for me. I work 28 out of 30 days... UGH Just thinking about it.

Congrats! DW & I have sailed on Carnival and Norwegian and we really hope to do a Disney cruise sometime in the future.:goodvibes

So since it has been a couple of weeks or more since I "really" posted anything, I'll just give you all a quick (for me) run down. So many other things going on that I haven't had time to comment on or participate in conversationally... I've been so busy lately myself, that my DIS time has been diminished greatly. This whole Wood Badge thing for Scouting has been pretty time consuming for me. Not because it HAS to be (I have 18 months to complete my Ticket goals - 5 in total ) - but because I WANT it to be. I just WANT to get it done and get my Beads! Ultimately its' not a race with any other participants, but if you don't complete it before 18 months, you don't complete it and would have to DO IT OVER AGAIN. No thank you! So today I met with my Ticket Counselor, and was able to get his OK that I had completed one of my goals. Yay. That's just 3 weeks since we left the coursework portion of the program and were released to begin our 18 month completion period. The 2nd one will be officially completed on this coming Monday night. The 3rd is not far behind - at least the first half, the completion of creating a survey. Then I have to mail it out, and start tabulating the results once they trickle in, but the stated deadline on the survey for return is Nov. 22nd - so it "should" be done by December 1-10ish. So only a few more weeks. Not too shabby if I say so myself for goals that have 17.5 months to run yet. The final two goals will take longer, which is exactly why I rushed "out of the gate" to get these first three DONE quickly. And work has been very, VERY, VERY busy and hectic lately - but I'm not complaining at all. I'm happy to be busy vs. the alternative.

SOOOO... consequently, my time on here has been diminished. I miss chatting with my online friends, but it won't be forever - and in just about 46 days several of us will be in the World. Can't wait for that time in the MK to hang out and meet several of you in person.

On the homefront (or at least within the family) - my FIL is hanging in there. He continues to take his meds, and has become quite proficient, from what I hear with his walker. The sad and not-so-good thing is twice now my BIL has found him trying to cross the street to sit on the bench overlooking the public access staircase down to the beach. NOT GOOD at all! He goes back to the docs for more tests in about a week. Nothing drastic has changed since his last appointment. So at this point, everything's ok. My DW even decided not to go back west this month, but rather decided she would just wait until we go out there for Christmas. She's praying he'll be okay until then - but if not, she'll be ready to fly west if things turn for the worse.

So that's it for my little update. Hope you all have a great night & day on Thursday. I'll try to pop in more frequently. Besides - if I don't - you'll be ready to move into VII and I'll miss it! Already up to 216... only a mere 34 more til the magic 250 is met and it's time to think about getting the next one set-up - and the requisite battle to get the last post begins...

Howdy all… Oh yah… CRUD!
Again I’ve missed so much there’s no way to catch up. I rummaged through the last few pages to at least get the cliff notes. Let’s see…

- Loved the story about Minnie and Enzo (never doubt the magic)

- I need to remember to pack planty of provisions for a proper cheese ball fight when we head down to the world this December

- There’s a proposal for a DisDadCruise and if Trennr’s buying, I’m in on that one

- There’s a bunch of y’all getting back form and/or heading down to the world and I wish I was one of ya’
(actually, with a youngin’ in high school, there is no possible way to justify taking him out long enough for a Florida trip in September or October).

As for my house, it’s been very busy and won’t be letting up for a while yet. This past Friday, the hard drive on my work p/c failed, so I’ve been recovering files, reloading software and rebuilding links, connections and setting ever since. I think I just about have everything back in order but it’s been an adventure. Our marching band adventures also continue. This past weekend we headed to a regional tournament at Western Carolina University and did rather well for a school the size of ours: third place in class, a trip to the finales that evening and a fourth place overall finish. This one is always a challenging contest. We were up at 3:30am and didn’t get back home until 4:00am the next day. And, we had a blast! (band geek syndrome runs in my family) We have a ball game tomorrow and travel to the SC Upper State Class-3A regionals Saturday. So we’ll stay busy. If the kids can place in the top-6 this weekend we’ll head to the State Championships next week. I know they have it in them, but I never make assumptions (judges are very fickle). I probably won’t have much time to check back in until the middle of next week (if then), but I’ll try to read a couple pages her and there.

Going to try something totally different this trip. My DS likes to collect the press pennies......
Anyone one have any idea's on cleaning them, want to use a liquid since they are small and detailed. Thinking vineger might work:confused3

In a truly Tim Allen-esque moment I thought of using Plumbing Flux and a small propane torch. If you've never witnessed flux clean off old copper pipes before soldering it's truly amazing. So I checked with a couple of plumber friends and they noted that while it would work they have melted several pennies by getting their torches (I'm assuming acetylene) too hot. One of them recommended using lemon juice and salt.

Busy, busy.. aren't we all...but that is good.. makes the days go faster until our next trip to the World!

Football update- We are now 10-1.. and heading into the playoffs.. not bad for our very first year ever.

Life update- Wife and boys are doing fantastic.. all of us looking forward to Christmas, and then Mardi Gras when we get to head back to Disney!!!

Good to hear from all of you guys..

Enjoying your trip report. Just got all cuaght up on it.

Thanks! Glad you're enjoying it.

Well, it was an interesting day here...I received a phone call from Shari at work today and I immediatly think someone had been hurt or died :rotfl2:..It turns out that our Cruise Travel Agent called to tell us that the new Disney ship Fantasy opened bookings today to Castaway Club members. She told Shari about it and Shari wanted to know if I thought it would be a good idea to go ahed and book a date.... Duh! Of Course...so we are sailing on the June 16, 2012 Eastern Carribean Cruise! So, we have the December trip this year...an August trip next year to the World and then the cruise in '12. Sounds good to me! Who wants to go and make this a Dis Dads cruise!!! Anyone else up for it???

Congrats Steve! Wish we could go, but once they see what we can afford they'd probably just have to tow us behind the ship in a canoe.

The Disney Cruise we did was a lot of fun, and I'd say it's definitely worth trying. Depending on whether you're a "cruise person" or not.

Not sure if it will work or not but there was that trick of leaving a penny in a glass of coke over night and it would take of the finish, might work to clean the crud off it.

Try Silvermate. It might work.

I have read somewhere something about baking soda and Aluminum but I think this is for Silver only.

Thanks for the idea's. Going to try them out this weekend and see what works:confused3

The main problem if cleaned with something corrisive they could rust 1943 is the only year they made steel pennies, so with that how many steel pressed pennies could there actually be out there, thinking it will make a great keepsake for DS:goodvibes

I got an email last week about DVC. If I call and take a tour (phone tour I guess) I can get a $25 gift card. This is what they sent me:

Your family's exciting Disney vacation is approaching. We'd like to give you a $25 Disney Gift Card you can enjoy during your trip and tell you about a way to save on amazing Disney vacations (maybe even this upcoming one!) for years to come.

Call today to schedule your interactive tour. It's quick, easy and informative. And as a "thank you" we'll send you a $25 Disney Gift Card you can use on your vacation.

Has anyone done this? How long does it take? If I call, what am I getting myself into?

Thanks in advance if anyone knows. :goodvibes

Just click on the one you want and fill in the info it asks for.

I was hoping with the new "Memories" campaign they would have a new DVD soon.

The "Celebrate" DVD was a rehash of the "YOMD" DVD...my favortie was the "Happiest Celebration on Earth" DVD....don't have any prior to that one.

I also have a DVC and DCL ones.

That DVC-DVD looks to be new. hmmm :scratchin

Also bought DS15 a Boxed set of Park DVDs at WDW for Christmas. I'm certain I'll...ummm he'll enjoy those. :rolleyes1

i have most of the dvds and i have 3 vhs tapes. the oldest tape i have is from 1992. in the late 80s early 90s they had "the magic kingdom club" i still use my mkc key chain when we go to wdw. digging in my pocket for change at a register last year at okw, i set my keys on the counter and the young girls said, what is the magic kingdom club? :lmao: it was before dvc, disney visa days.:lmao: i also have a collection of dvc tapes and dvds.:lmao: i have enough for about 12 hours of viewing if i get bored.:lmao: forgot, also have the christmass dvc and vhs. :lmao: (i know, im not well!!)

Yeah those bus drivers are known to toss out false rumors just to get people excited witih false hopes :rotfl2: It really would be a cool Dis Dad trip though...If you have never cruised on Disney I highly recomend it...they are the best!!

We are doing our first Disney cruise in August on the Dream. We are going with some freinds with whom we go to Disney often. I can't wait. I've never been on any cruise.

CRUD.
There, I said it. I'll say it again...CRUD. I believe I'm allowed to as an official member of the DDC (#535...said so right in the posting!). I'm not sure I'll be able to contribute anything worthwhile to any of the conversations, except to maybe contribute to any sorta lack of conversation! :lmao:

By skimming over the posts, one thing I'm certain I'm allowed to do here is vent...
<VENT ON> Being a new parent of a 2 week old disney princess princess: is the best thing in the world! That said...it sucks....I'm referring to the lack of sleep and the current constant state of zone out I feel as a result of said lack of sleep. There, out of the way. Need never be mentioned again outside of the DDC, LOL!</VENT OFF> However, I (we) am (are) slowly getting used to it as it's going to be a constant thing for the next, oh, 18 years or so!

BTW, I can contribute...regarding cleaning steel pennies, I found this article:
http://www.ehow.com/how_4844269_clean-steel-pennies.html
Something else to try?
