I'm looking for some Disney related advice from a good group of guys...

You sure youre in the right club?? :confused3
My personal favorite with a beach that I can afford ;) is the Carribean Beach Resort. The sand for the beaches there is imported from the private Castaway Keys island I was told by a CM. It truly is a fantastic resort. Mulitple pools and even have the new pirate themed rooms and pirate pool now. The food has a very delicious variety as well.
Time wise I love october, but we are going the 2nd week of Dec this year just in time for all the Pop Warner kids to be gone. Check the calendar for Jersey Week and Pop Warner week (no offense anyone) these are hectic weeks.
What ever you decide make it a fun one!:banana::banana:

Well… I can relate our experiences. We’ve been to nearly all the moderates and CRB is certainly (and obviously) the most “Beachy”. It has very nice little areas throughout the resort along the banks of the lake. Of course, it is a lake so there is no swimming allowed from the beaches and the water would be rather cold anyway, but the pools at CRB are excellent so getting sunshine and enjoying the water are not a problem (which is true for all Disney resorts).

Now, having said that, we really enjoyed staying at the “Beach Club”. We just loved the general atmosphere of the place and it boasts both it’s own private entrance into the World Showcase at EPCOT (read: no bus ride needed) and one of the finest pools in all of WDW: “Stormalong Bay” (the bottom of the pools are even sandy).

well going late nov into early dec. stay in the november range. the first two weeks of december is a heavy dvc time. the points are the cheapest so renting points would be a problem. november is a nice time to go. as far as resorts, i like the contemp. my self but if you need a beach, you have the grand flor.(big $!!!!) beach club but thats dvc or the car. beach resort. september is another good time to go.

Thanks. Unfortunately Nov is probably out. With the farm, we're looking at harvest usually running Labor Day to Thanksgiving. This being a dry fall is the exception as it is already over. No way I could plan for a November trip unless we would just pick up and go last second if it works out for us. My birthday is 11/17 and I think that would make a lovely gift to myself sometime!

I've never stayed at a deluxe, but my wife has stayed at GF once and loved it. We do have some money that was given to us by her grandmother about a year ago and we were told specifically it is to go towards a trip, so we could probably afford to splurge on it just this one time. Could be the only time we can ever afford a deluxe... especially if we expand the family.

Personally, I've always thought Beach Club looks awesome and I love the location... the more I think the harder the choices get.

Never even thought about Jersey Week at that time. I've read about Pop Warner being in Dec. Thanks for the heads up. :thumbsup2

I'll definitely do some more research into CBR. It is another one that I've always been interested in. I'm glad there are so many options, but it makes the decision that much more difficult.

ok...I can tell yoiu from first hand experience that jersey week is HORRIBLE!!!! Now, with that being said...what is this Pop Warner that you speak of and how does it effect the crowds...I am fearful that might be when I am there this year!!

You're kind of thinking along the same lines I am. I'll have to really sit down and weigh the pros and cons on the different resorts, but good to know that my thinking (about places I've never been) seems to be on track.

Obviously I don't know firsthand, but what I've read is that it is the week of 12/4 - 12/11 this year. Looks like it is a kids football and cheer tournament at the WWoS complex. What I've read it is mostly an annoyance in the value resorts with kids running around unsupervised at night... sometimes groups will come to parks in the afternoon, but most of the day they're in WWoS. I'm sure someone with more experience could tell you more about it.

afwdwfan,

I'm looking for some Disney related advice from a good group of guys...

My wife and I were having the conversation a couple of days ago about where to go for vacation in 2011. She of course, mentioned St. Pete Beach. I said "hmmm.... maybe a day or 2... but what do you think about Disney World???" (I'm not a beach person,:confused3 I get bored after about 2 hours. I want to do something. If I'm going to sit outside with a cold drink I'd prefer to sit with friends and family watching the deer in my woods as opposed surrounded by a mass of humanity in front of the ocean:rolleyes1)

Here's my dilemma... We'll have about a week to go + weekends. She wants a couple of days in St. Pete, but I've already pretty much convinced her to drop that requirement if we can stay at one of the nice resorts that have a beach. We would typically be looking at value resorts only, but in this case, and if it will please her, I'd be willing to pony up the extra money. Granted I've always thought if I ever stayed in a deluxe it would be the Contemporary (I mean come on, a monorail goes through it!!! I've dreamed of staying there since I was 4). I've seen pictures and read a little bit about the different resorts, but as far as a relaxed, beach like atmosphere with a good pool what are some expert opinions? Even if the "nicer resort" card doesn't play out, I might just have to steal some of the plans that Emma's Dad has worked out and work a few days to the Gulf Coast into the mix.

Also, we're going to be taking our son on his first trip. He will be 1 on Jan 25. I know he won't remember anything, but it won't cost anymore to take him so who cares?? For us it will be all about seeing his reaction to the sights and sounds. We could maybe do mid to late June, but I'd like to wait until later in the year when the little guy is closer to 2 than 1. I'd love to go the week before labor day, but my wife coaches HS volleyball and I farm, so we would probably be looking at late Nov to early Dec to travel. The only problem is I've been told we can't go when it is too hot (and hence July was not considered) or when it is too cold to go to the pool (now I'm a bit concerned).

I'm kind of thinking of flying down on Sat or Sun (weekend 12/3 or 12/10) and staying 5 or 6 nights. I'd prefer the first week, but I'm assuming that will parade weekend. Wouldn't be a huge deal though, because it would be later in the day Sat that we'd get there and could avoid MK for the first couple of days. I've never gone anytime other than July and I have no experience with any of the currently operational resorts except POP. Any and all advice as I begin planning and trying to twist the wife's arm would be greatly appreciated! ;)

Sorry to be long-winded, but I know there is a lot of experience around here and thought this would be a good place to solicit advice about resorts and timing. Now if you excuse me, I'll be working on some of these magic spreadsheets :surfweb: I've heard so much about around here.

November is has become my favorite time of year to go. I have been in WDW the first week in November and that was Ok but not great, but the third week of November is awesome. And by third week I mean the week before Thanksgiving, not during Thanksgiving. I was there last year and the parks were pretty empty and all the attractions were basically walk on, no waiting. It did get a little chilly at night but was in the high 70's to low 80's during the day. By this time the entire park is decorated for Christmas and we really enjoyed the Christmas party and the Osborne lights.

As far as resorts go I am a big fan of the Contemporary with the Magic kingdom view. You can watch fireworks and the castle as it changes color through out the night, and yes the monorail goes right through it! How cool is that. My only slightly negative thought is that you may want to try a DVC resort and get a one bedroom suite so that when your son is napping you have more freedom to move around and watch Stacey count down the top 7 attractions at WDW.

:thumbsup2 bayonne and the blue devils were my favs. i enjoy most music. i listen to just about eveything from ac/dc to bach.:lmao:yes, i can listen to classical.:thumbsup2 (there are a few that i dont listen to. if it has the words, yo-yo-yo in it or yeeehawww, it gets turned off.):lmao:

Same here and I'll raise you my new pet peeve. Any song where the performer feels the need to spell... this of course excludes Lynyrd Skynyrds "Double Trouble."

Don't forget any song where they say thier name in it, if they have to push the group or singer that much so people know who are, it's probably not worth listening to:confused3

How about the "South Gonna Do It Again" ? :confused3
"All the good people down in Tennessee are diggin Barefoot Jerry and the C-D-B."

Yeehaw...check
Their Name in it...check
Spelling...check
Yo-yo-yo...nope but can Charlie Daniels Play a mean fiddle?

ive been down the first two weeks of december in 05 and 07, i never noticed it being more crowded than food and wine in october. its not bad during the week days, weekends get a bit crowded, the locals visit the parks, but as far as being overly packed, i think youll be ok.:thumbsup2

beach club is very nice!! if your looking at the first two weeks of december, i have a feeling it may be hard getting into beach club, the dvc member points are very low for those two weeks and the members tend to book that place up fast. i stayed at the contemp. in may 09 and were goingback june 2011 for dd grad. present. we love it there!! the view of the mk is our entertainment!!! it is a reg. hotel room w/ a small frig. and pending were in the tower you are, it can get loud if your a lite sleeper. you want to stay as high as you can, the mk end of the hotel, and in an odd number room. odd number rooms you can lay in bed and see the mk out the door.:thumbsup2 no beach but a very cool place to stay. check for discounts. generaly if your an ap holder, you can get 30-40 percent off. nothing else aaa can knock a few hundred off. we paid $280 per night in may and i was told if you get to $350 or lower, grab it your doing good.:thumbsup2

Hi all.

I have done the week after Thanksgiving for years. The only time I saw the cheerleaders and football kids was when I was staying at All Star Sports in the late 1990's. The weekends were more crowded, not summer crowded, just larger crowds. The holiday decorations are up and the Candlelight Processional. The weather can be hot or cold. It is usually nice. The best time to do the MVMCP is Tuesday and Sunday nights. DVC resorts are full, but the others are usually less crowded. I hope this helps.

I'll tell you what else is HORRIBLE.. they way your boys played last night. I thought Marshall was supposed to be decent this year? What an ugly game. Hopefully you weren't there.... :headache:

That's good to know. We're planning on going down the week after Thanksgiving 2011. We're DVC @ BCV, but given the time of year we don't think we'll have much use for the pool and were looking to maximize points by staying in a 1BR at OKW or BWV.

The park densities you describe are also similar to the week following Labor Day.

NEGATIVE GHOSTRIDER

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

The closer I get to leaving the busier life becomes....how is theis possible?

Oh well...Sunday can't get here fast enough!!!:woohoo:

Hope you have a safe trip in your sweet new smokin' hot mini-van!!! :thumbsup2
