AJ, that bites!

But I had a good 'dad moment' the other day. Driving family home from rare dinner out. In family van. Had 1 glass of wine with dinner. See red and blue flashing lights behind me, and freak out!

Oh no! What did I do? I only had 1 glass of wine.

Mind is racing that I am going to lose my license. Child endangerment. Social pariah. You can imagine.

It turns out the "cops" were my daughter's sparkle shoes that light up. My wife laughed at me for hours over that, until last week when, early in the AM on the way to the Airport to go to you-know-where for vacation, it happened to her too. HAAAA HAAAAA HAAA!!!!!

FYI, on the way to Educause convention in Anaheim (right next to Disneyland). Anyone else going?

Did not get to read about the wonderful football standings or other happenings, but thought I would stop by for a quick in-progress trip report. The weather here has been wonderful, in the 80s. MK was really crowded Sunday, moreso than usual. Oldest daughter, 8, did Space Mountain for the 1st time (it was closed last several trips) and she loved it.

Pros
The Wilderness Lodge is terrific - 5th floor room, dining, boat transport, beach, late night movie on the beach, pools, laundry facilities. I miss the waterslide, but it is still really cool. HDDR was really fun. Food was pretty good. The show was great. They had Bud Light draft, which is not my favorite, but it is still beer. Did all 3 mountains at MK Sunday. First time in a while for all 3, and first for the dds (8,6).

Cons
The dinner at the Castle is TERRIBLE. They do have the princesses, so it was fun for the dds (and me), but the food was really, really bad. Also, DW insisted on the DXDP again and I am eating way too much food. I am having lots of Turbo boosts to walk around the park.

Well, time for the Halloween party. More news later. Have a great week.

Had a pretty scary moment the other night. DW put a load of clothes in the dryer upstairs and we were downstairs watching TV. Heard a thump like something rolled off the washer or dryer but ignored it, about a minute later we hear another thump and when we look at the stairwell the light is flickering. I run upstairs and all you can smell is burnt electrical. Unplugged the dryer and the one prong is black. Went to the garage, tripped the breaker and removed the cover off the outlet, the one terminal on the receptacle had basically melted itself and the wires all had soot on them. From what i've looked up and been told the connection in the receptacle came loose over time and started arcing.

That’s very scary. I am also glad that there was no more serious damage. I do believe that I will have to break into the dryer receptacle in our house and tighten everything up in the near term and look into the upgraded breaker in the upcoming year.

our high school was grand national champs in 09 and second place in 10. they hold the record for the highest score ever scored in a ussba comp. i just thought maybe you may have bumped into them along the way. they are on the smaller side, they only have 108 playing members.

Cool!!! :thumbsup2 Quite an accomplishment and I know just how much work the kids had to put in to pull that off. I’ll have to keep an eye out to see if I can’t catch them at a contest in the future.

Oy! What a day. It's not even Noon yet, and I'm already ready for it to be over. It's bad enough that I have a work trip to take today, before I've even had one normal day in the office since my vacation. But if that wasn't enough, I got caught in a speed trap on the way to the airport. That normally wouldn't be such a big deal, but apparently the State of Kansas computer system believes that my driver's license is suspended! :scared1:

(This is actually a recurring problem with them, all stemming from a bad ticket I was given a couple of years ago outside of Wichita. The officer cited me for speeding in a construction zone, but the location where he cited me for speeding was outside of the construction zone. We didn't enter the construction zone until he decided to pull me over several miles later - at which point I was not exceeding the posted limit. Somehow, that ticket keeps popping back up in the system, even though it was resolved TWO YEARS AGO!!)

Because the system showed my license as suspended, the officer confiscated my license and would not allow me to drive to the airport. Luckily, my parents live near where I was stopped and my Dad is off today. So he ran me to the airport and I was able to use my Federal Government ID as my ID at the airport.

Now, my dinner plans for tonight with an old college friend have fallen through (sick kids), and I'm going to be stuck at a hotel near Dulles Airport. Any DIS Dads in the D.C. Area up for dinner or a beer this evening? I could definitely use a drink.

wow, i would of went back home and went to bed. now you get to come home and deal with that after your bus. trip.:sad2:

Sooo anybody seen Mike aka MiJo?

Nate and Dave ~ Thanks for thinking of me! We've had our office torn apart for a couple weeks due to basement flooding from the big rain we got and my PC had been disassembled (like Johnny 5). I should be around more often now as the office is just about back together. Of course, there are lots of other projects to finish up before the weather turns nasty.

We did spend time with our Navy son last week while he was home on leave. He finishes up at his command in MD on the 31st; takes the auto train from VA to Sanford on the 2nd and 3rd; and, checks in with the Blue Angels on the 5th. He's been doing a lot of studying up on the F/A-18 Hornet. They want him prepped when he gets there.

Oh yeah: Welcome Aboard to all the new Dads! :thumbsup2

rob if you get a few min., watch these guys. ive been playing drums since i was 8 and got into drum corp in the late 70s. after a few years after hs, i lost intrest due to the new formats and little solders they have now.:lmao: anyway, i seen these guys in the late 70s at the old rajah theater in reading pa. now, they have an alumni corp and it brings back alot of good mems.anyway, these guys came out and i knew we were in trouble. they played what you see on this video. in order. you can have all the latest cds, computer aided sounds all you want but theres nothing like getting your peanut butter blown out of a theater by these fine older men and women. :hippie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=734I82RfohM

Great link Dave..that is one regret from my younger days that I was not able to particpate in Dum Corps...Loved watching DCI competitons when they were in town and The Bridgemen were one of my favorites along with Phantom REgiment...for some reason I always despised Garfiled Cadets (Cadets of Bergen County as they are now called I believe). Really enjoyed watching the link and it brought back memories of High School and band competitions. I never had your pegged for a Drum Corps guy...coop!:cool1: Once a band person...always a band person!

I certainly will, first chance I get!

We are currently replacing the front eave of our house. With a log home, nothing seems to be easy, though. We are using narrow cedar boards and it is taking a while! It will look better than the old plywood, though.
We don't have much of a wasp problem; our problem is stink bugs. We get inundated with them every year, inside and out. And there isn't much that will kill them. :sad2:

Dude!!! You were a Bridgeman!!! I am jealous… Fantastic videos, (and I agree that the Top Secret Corp is just silly good), thanks for the posts. Like you I’ve been making music since I was about 8, but guitar is the primary instrument. When I was in school, I played the reeds (all of ‘em), but needless to say, there ain’t any reeds in DCI, so I was pretty much out in the cold. Went back to the six string and never looked back.

Interestingly, we actually have an excellent corp down this way. The Carolina Crown is generally listed as being from Charlotte, but they are actually based in my little town of Fort Mill, SC. One of our assistant directors at school actually in on the staff of the Crown and several of their members volunteer on the instruction staff (and we’re mightily glad to have them onboard). My DS is in the horn line at school (Baritone/Trombone) and loves it to the point that he’s considering trying to audition for the Crown. That would be an assume experience if he goes through with it. :thumbsup2

This sounds a whole lot like the way music works in our house. I love to play me some rock-n-roll, but I also get completely blown away by great orchestral compositions. I can't listen to the 1812 or the finale from Firebird (just to name two) with out having to brush back tears. That's one reason I volunteer with the school. Just to get to stand on the sidelines and hear the kids knock down the stands. :goodvibes

As luck would have it.....one of their coaches coached here for 2 yrs in ECHL before moving up to the AHL there...there was a big fundraser in the spring for a fella who was very suppportive of hockey here in johnstown over the years, that had brain cancer.(he passed away a cpl months ago) SO there was a oldtimers type game, a good buddy of mine who works for the PEns(the fella that died did as well) got a whole lot of stuff donated from signed sticks to jerseys, other folks donated things as well. I actually picked up a 'be the equipment manager for a day' auction as well, so I'll be a penquin for a day! Coach Herbers brought down that jersey, and my son and I both liked the logo, so we won that as well!

oh, I got a nemisis :confused3 :scared1:

Very Cool! :thumbsup2

Oops, I mean boo hiss. I forgot about the nemesis until you reminded me. :lmao:

But I had a good 'dad moment' the other day. Driving family home from rare dinner out. In family van. Had 1 glass of wine with dinner. See red and blue flashing lights behind me, and freak out!

Mind is racing that I am going to lose my license. Child endangerment. Social pariah. You can imagine.

Been there, freaked out just a bad. Well, without the drinking party. As part of our 1200 mile drive to WDW, we give the kids a small present at every state line we cross. It gives them something to look forward to and gives them something else to occupy them in the car. Well, one of the toys that my DW got my son was a toy ambulance with a very realistic and very loud siren. Every time he hit that button my heart skipped a beat and I checked my mirror, expecting to see a State Trooper just itching to write a ticket to an out of state minivan doing 9 mph over the limit. :sad2:

Glad you're enjoying your stay. My cousin in Tennessee told me that her son is in WDW because he has a week long fall break from school. I wonder how much affect that is having on crowds?
We don't have those up here in Wisconsin (school doesn't start until the first week of September). Do any of you guys have fall breaks where you live?

When in doubt, thermite. :thumbsup2
Fantastic words to live by. ::yes::

Maybe subconsciously you were hoping to get pulled over by a famous DDC member! :rotfl2:
