Hey fellow-Dads, this DisNewbie could use some trip planning advice from the vets. Here's my dilemma. I'm trying to figure out what to do about the last two days of our trip, Friday, Oct. 8 and Saturday, Oct. 9. In the middle of this decision is our plan to do MNSSHP on Friday, Oct. 8.

On the 7th, we're at Epcot for The Bug's Akershaus birthday dinner and staying late for Illuminations, so we'll be up late on Thursday night.

Friday the 8th we know we need to sleep in, after being up late on Thursday and planning to be up REALLY late for MNSSHP. So what to do with Friday? I figure, even with sleeping in, the kids will be up and at 'em by 10 a.m.

Alternative #1: Do we spend some time in a park? (TGM says MK or HS; TouringPlans says Epcot) We'll want to take an afternoon rest too, as MNSSHP night is going to be really late. MK seems a bit wasteful, since we'll be there later with a smaller crowd anyway. HS is a possibility, but with a late start, we'll likely not have time for the headliners. As for Epcot, we will have just been there on Thursday for our second Epcot day of the trip. Wherever we go, we'd really only have a couple of hours to tour if we're going to get an afternoon nap in.

Alternative #2: Spend a half hour on a pontoon boat (I think the kids will get bored with more than that) and a couple hours in the pool before nap time. Then head over to MK right when the party wristbands start getting distributed at 4 p.m. (Is this too much of a gamble that the kids will hold up, or will the MNSSHP excitement carry them through to midnight).

Altenative #3: Much like #2, but maximizing MK touring time. Tighten up the morning just a bit, and head back over to MK around 2 p.m. (Downside is having to go back to get our wristbands at 4 p.m.)

If we don't go to a park before MNSSHP, that means we have one ticket day left. I see two options for what to do with that ticket:
Option 1) Spend a morning in the park on our getaway day. Our flight doesn't leave until about 5 p.m., so we'd have some time. But there's that whole late start thing again after a late night.
Option 2) While the kids are sleeping in/at the pool/resting, DW and I take turns heading over to MK and collecting (but not using) Fastpasses for use when we return for the party. Conceivably, we could have 4-6 sets of Fastpasses to use at least between 4 and 7 p.m. (I don't remember whether FP is in use during hard ticket events).

Thoughts?

Do you have Park Hoppers?

No hoppers. With young kids mandating an afternoon break, and relatively short park hours in October, they didn't seem worth the cost.

OK I'm leaning towards option 2 with the FP's, They did not use them once MNSSHP started last year, but if the kids will be sleeping late, and taking a nap in the afternoon this might be your best bet. Just make sure you have dinner before you go, those 5hrs go by quick with so many things to do.

Hey dads, where am I tonight? Can you tell by these two pictures? I know that some of you can, while others might not be too sure...

Somedays I really hate my job. Others I don't mind so much, especially when it takes me to California or Florida, and I can tack on a couple or a few night stay at my favorite places - the Land and the World. This week brought me to Florida, and was a very last minute addition, just coming up last week. But I was excited that it worked out. I was originally planning to be up in the Chicago area this week and would have enjoyed meeting Brian and Barry while up there, but then the Florida trip came up, and I made the call to put Chicagoland off for a couple to a few more weeks. I know, I know, you hate me...but hey I can deal with it. :rolleyes1

In the morning I'm meeting up with Christian and his lovely wife and daughter over at the Magic Kingdom for some breakfast and fun for their final day of their week's vacation. Can't wait to see them all again. Sunday I'll be meeting up with one of my Groupie buddies from over on the WL thread prior to watching the Main Street Electrical Parade. Monday morning early I fly home. Just a quick visit, with absolutely no other agenda than meeting up with those two fellow DIS'ers - but hey, I'll take it!

Well, off to bed, gotta make rope drop in the morning...

A friend of mine works at China Beach, doing non-nuclear weapons design and testing. One of his "specialties" is air firing systems (they allow non-destructive testing of projectiles). It would be fun to see how the marksmen did with a couple of his creations.

This video is of an airgun firing a golfball at a watermelon. The golfball was traveling at about 410 mph:

And this is probably the largest potato gun in the world. No pictures of it being fired yet though. He's been too busy with other priority work to get a chance to play with "Vera" yet:

That video was great.

Firefly was a good series.:thumbsup2

And hi new member checking in with you guys if that's ok with you

Names Jeff live in NC planning our second family trip to Disney this December with my two boys wife and her parents. Got most of the leg work done with it everything is booked and ADR's made, just have to get MVMCP tickets bought and we will be set.

Ya have to leave the balloons in the freezer longer for it to be effective.

I did get to use you as an example this afternoon though. One of our A/C units went out and it was 80 in the office, when they were in full whine mode I told them "my friend's A/C was out as well, only he's in Iraq so it's about 30 degrees hotter in his office, look at it this way, you get to go home in a few hours, he doesn't." Gee that was an awkward silence.

Ouch, I bet that hurt...thanks for the support and well wishes guys...I pass some of my time planning what to do at our week in Disney, but at this point it doesn't really help that much..

Funny thing is, this is the first one I've been what I call "homesick"....I think it's because DS has grown so much and I've had so much fun with him. I get to see him and talk to him on Skype, but it ain't the same....and then some of it may be that it's my LAST DEPLOYMENT:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo: I just want to get it over with...:cool1:

Luckily, I'm somewhat busy, so that helps...:banana:

to the clubhouse, come on it and pull up a chair! If you want, pop a new message out there with a request to be added to the DisDad's roster, and Emma's Dad should be along shortly to add you in.

And second that, Firefly was a GREAT show. Serenity was a pretty cool movie as well. :thumbsup2

i dont remember the fast pass being open for any of the parties. (hallowo or christmas) i dont plan anything for our last day there, thats our hit the parks (mk,epcot, holly) for our good bye tour :lmao: when our dd was young, that kid never slept. so we have adopted (we, meaning dd and myself) the policy of, you can sleep at home, were in disney world, lets go!!!:thumbsup2

You definately have a pretty good perk with your job being able to visit the parks so often. Enjoy your breakfast and I hope the parade lives up to the hype, can't wait to see it later this week.

Not one of your alternatives, but we don't do a park before MNSSHP. We stay at the resort and swim, eat lunch, and then everyone takes a nap. We don't leave the party until the park closes at midnight or whenever. Are you locked in with the ticket already?

OK, so far we have 9 teams and a few more invites who have not yet responded. The league is shaping up quite nicely as we should easily have 12 teams, and maybe 14. So far, the teams are as follows:

Passamaquody Dragons
WEDway People Movers
Taxidermy Tech
Grumpy Old Men
Main Street Moose
Le Cellier Dwellers
Madder Than Hatter
Da Bears
The Mighty Ducks

Hope you got my PM. If not, please let me know. Team name - Figment Cowboys.

I 'm not sure. I sent an E-Mail invitation to whomever PMed me with their E-Mail. PLease send it again and I will be sure to invite you. Also, we have a team called "Figment's Sparks." Is that you?

I'm not locked in with the ticket, but based on our length of stay, that ticket only costs about $5, so I figure it's worth hanging on to "just in case" (like just in case MNSSHP gets rained on hard, and we leave the park early, for example).

And in another bout of prevarication, I'm considering giving up our coveted CRT reservation for our first morning at Disney. We've got an 8:05 a.m. ADR for our first day at MK. Our only other MK day is the MNSSHP evening. I'm starting to think that a) I'd rather make sure we're at rope drop (and see the opening show) than enter an empty park (though that would make for some nice picture opportunities) and b) I'd rather do a 1 TS ADR (or even a signature restaurant) for dinner that evening instead. c) We're doing Akershaus a few days later for The Bug's birthday dinner. It looks like they have most of the same characters, and I don't want The Bug's birthday dinner to be anti-climatic.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Geez. What a day already. Cheerleading tryouts this morning at 9. Baseball at 10. Baseball at 4. Dance recital at 6. 10 million degrees. Thunderstorms looming. DD got cut from the cheerleading team, which means lots of current drama at our house but significantly less drama during next school year when "cheerleader drama" takes full stage. DS throws a complete game W in his first game back from a broken thumb. DW and me about melt in the heat........... Now at home trying to cool off before round two this evening.

Really feeling for DD right now, though. I tried to comfort her with my own "cut in 7th grade story" (which was true), but she wasn't having much of it. It's particularly tough when all of her friends BUT her make the squad; I think that's what she's having the most trouble dealing with right now.
