DIS Dads The Dis Dad's Club III

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

Ok, way too many responses to sit here and quote all of them, Al Bundy is my prophet and that's just way too much work.

Thank you guys for all the positive responses, it's hard seeing little ones go through that kind of thing. The doctors are still trying to find the right treatment for her, the second attempt didn't work either. They are now going to add a steroid into the mix and see what happens. There are a few more levels of treatment and hopefully she'll respond to one of them. The bad news is, if she doesn't respond to any of these treatments, the endgame would be removal of her spleen, which they don't do on young kids. The doctors are fairly confident that something will work before we get to that point. She's still in the hospital and will probably be there for another week or so as they go through this stage of trial and error. She's in good spirits and mom is breathing a little easier knowing that it's not leukemia.

Now, with that out of the way and our minds a little more clear, it is time to get to more pressing issues. WDW in May. Does anyone know when and if Wishes Dessert Party will return? We did this over Xmas and loved it. I've searched through multiple sources and haven't found anything current. We have family coming in from NY that have never been to WDW and think they'd really enjoy it.

Oscar, glad to see that things are looking up for your niece. My sister has ITP as well and she just had her spleen removed (she's 32) but is doing well. I'm not sure what all the treatments that she went through but just some positive thoughts that she lived with her condition for a long time before it came to the spleen removal. I'm sure that the docs will find the right balance for your niece.

So we've been away for the last few days to a non-Disney vacation.:scared1:

We spent 4 days / 3 nights at the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells and I have to say, next time I think I'd rather drive the extra 20 hours south. I have no complaints about the Wilderness itself, in fact everyone there was very accommodating, but with our youngest being allergic to dairy, she had reactions at the 2 restaurants that we ate at outside of the resort. (OK, taking her to the Diary state, may not have been my brightest move. :lmao:)

The kids did enjoy the waterpark and entertainment, but we've become accustomed to Disney like customer service. Chalk this up as a learning experience, fortunately none of her reactions were severe (hives only) so no major harm done.

Sorry for the non-Disney hijack, just needed to vent and say, Disney may be 23 hours of driving away, but its a lot closer when considering piece of mind.

Welcome back to the comforts of the DIS Dad's lounge!!! :drinking1

Sorry your vacation was less than magical... Now remember this experience and send all your $$$ to the mouse! :lmao:

personally I wish my cars still had crank windows. To many electronic parts to go bad with power things. Bring back my old school.

Since a computer can now fit in your hand (and be a camera), there is no going back - until one of those Matrix movies happens.

The diesel take had an electric pump, but the gas tank was gravity fed and was mounted up on a stand.

Not sure what that looked like, but with the propane tanks by people's home out in the country here, they make great horses for the children to ride.

I've never ridden the Disney Busses...and hope I never have to. :lmao:

I wish I could say that. It looks like the closest I'll get is the trip this year to Wilderness Lodge. The All Star and PoP busses, leaving parks at night, are just jammed packed. I've never seen a monorail car or boat crammed as full as the buses. After staying at a Moderate, we purchased DVC. Moving away from the value resort buses was one of the deciding factors.

I always thought is was 4 wheels, 4 speeds, 2 doors, cause I never saw a 4 door version. :confused3

My buddy in HS had a lemon yellow one and the color was appropriate for how often he had it up on jacks.
:rotfl2:

In 1964 when the 442 was introduced the original meaning was 4 barrel carb, 4 speed, dual exaust.

There is a 2nd meaning:
In 1965 they offered a automatic & a 3 speed manual tranny it can also mean

400 cubic inch displacement
4 barrel carb
2- duel exuast

I have not run across a 4 door, I don't know if they ever made one, I'm thinking they didn't, It is in the Cutlass family, the Cutlass did have a 4dr version, but like the Camaro, Mustang, Firebird I don't think they offered a 4dr in the 442.
Alot of people think it has a 442 engine in it:lmao:

I know all about being allergic to dairy, I developed it when I was 30, I haven't had a glass of milk a milkshake or icecream in almost 11 years. My throat would close and can't breath. No fun at all, I needed the epipen once, since then I just steer clear of dairy. I can only imagine what it like for a child.

Trying to get back to the POP from Downtown Disney at closing time with two big bags from the Lego store and a sleeping 3 y/o was one of the worst experiences i've had there. I swear it was 6 buses before we got on one, we were renting strollers at the parks so I had to carry DS the whole time we waited because he was sleeping. Took about 3 days for my back to get back to normal, on the plus side; small world on muscle relaxants and vicodin is quite amusing.

Very Cool! Looks like I'll be heading back home a day or two before you check in.

Shucks... would have been nice to meet ya there! not much longer for you!

I think Disney should run everything past thr DDC before they go making decisions :rotfl2::rotfl2:

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Can I get a MAN LAW? :lmao:

I think I am going to have a shirt made up for my trip.It will read,"I am a Dis DAD no questions asked you can have my seat !" This will be on the front and on the back it will read " the few, the proud ,the Dis Dads"

:cool2: I'd buy that for a dollar!

.....and I had nothing to do with it this time:rotfl2:

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::lmao::lmao::lmao: R...i...g...h...t..... :rolleyes1

Newbie here! Can you add me to the roster as member #442? Great car, and I will wear the number proudly!

I'm new to the club, but let me know the rallying cry and I'm there. I just read the Man Law credo on this, and am in full agreement, so we should go in united IMO.

Welcome! You are member # 442! :thumbsup2

:welcome: WELCOME TO THE DIS DAD'S CLUB! :welcome:

maybe this bus crash also had something to do with the bus thread getting closed.this will be next.http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2426627 This is going to go south fast wait and see. Now you will get all the "I told you so " people should be sitting comments.

Carl's right, on other threads people are saying they didn't feel safe standing, or maybe now they will add more buses sitting only. There is always a risk, but if a plane crashes no one says you should not fly, or a car accident no one says you should not drive. :confused3

Ahhh... Wisconsin Dell's - Illinois' playground. (Along with Lake Geneva and Door Country). We've never stayed a the Wilderness, but I have several coworkers that love it there.
Yes, we do love our milk up here. And butter. And cheese. Ohhh... the cheese. :thumbsup2

Not sure what that looked like, but with the propane tanks by people's home out in the country here, they make great horses for the children to ride.
It was mounted about 6 or 7 feet up, so it would be closer to riding a Clydesdale!

I just found this club and I am ready to join! I am a father of 2 (as my name inmplies) and I am a bigger kid then both of them put together when it comes to Disney... My wife and I went on our honeymoon in 2002 to DL, and then took the family to WDW in 2004, 2008, and 2009... We decided it is time for the adults to be the kids and we are going on an adults only trip this Nov/Dec... That's right, we are leaving the kids at home so we can be kids :thumbsup2 I am really into photography, and we have never been around christmas time, so this should be fun...

, on the plus side; small world on muscle relaxants and vicodin is quite amusing.

:lmao: I bet!!

IMO, seeing that they have that many busses running all day long, accidents are bound to happen, and they do a good job preventing them... I have always felt safe riding in the busses... I plan on renting a car for this trip just so that I don't have to deal with the crowds, but if something has to change, I have no issues giving that up and riding the busses instead...

Sounds good to me! Can we get a bulk rate somewhere on 400+ shirts? :confused3

personally I wish my cars still had crank windows. To many electronic parts to go bad with power things. When I had crank windows I always knew my window would go up or down. Now with power ones they go down real slow and you have to hope it goes back up.Power locks are the same push the button and hope it locks and unlocks.I know I know I can always go and get em fixed but with manuel ones never had to worry.Bring back my old school.

My daily driver is a 2008 Chevy Aveo5. While it's not anything fancy, it serves its purpose to get me to work, and it was very inexpensive. Anyway, it has manual locks and manual windows. I agree that it's just that much less stuff to go bad. The car has everything I wanted; cruise control, an upgraded 6 speaker stereo, and antilock brakes. Other than that, you can keep the rest of it IMO.

It looks like it will be 442, and a fine car it is:car::thumbsup2 442 = 4 barrel carb, 4 speed, Dual exaust. My favorite years were the early 70,s model, I also liked the one they had in the 80's The Hurst 442 with the lightning bolt shifters:thumbsup2

One of the best cars GM turned out in the 70's IMO.

In 1964 when the 442 was introduced the original meaning was 4 barrel carb, 4 speed, dual exaust.....I have not run across a 4 door, I don't know if they ever made one, I'm thinking they didn't, It is in the Cutlass family, the Cutlass did have a 4dr version, but like the Camaro, Mustang, Firebird I don't think they offered a 4dr in the 442.

I'm with you, I have never seen a 4 door model of the 442, only the standard Cutlass. My neighbor has a 1970 4 door that is in cherry condition. Beautiful car even though it is not a 442.

Welcome! You are member # 442! :thumbsup2

Thanks to all posters for the welcome. I look forward to meeting you all, and upholding the traditions as a Dis Dad!

1) I was not a Marine, so maybe stealing their slogan is not the best idea. How about "The Many, The Proud, The DIS Dads" as a pocket logo on the front, and on the back it could say, "You can have my bus seat any time."

2) my 2000 Ford Focus has manual locks and roll-down windows, and only 94,000 miles. The longer I go without a car payment, the more realistic my DVC dream becomes.:thumbsup2

3) "Hey Bartender! Jobu needs a refill!"
