We got very little snow from the big storm. i think all of the rain prio to it made a difference. The roads are clear and I did not even have to shovel the dirveway! Woohoo!
So you NASCAR fans...who are your drivers? We ought to have a fantasy NASCAR racegroup on yahoo or ESPN.
I haven't really watched it since Sterling Marlin retired but I do still check the news to see how Mark Martin did each week. Too many young guys dominating each week.

We ended up with 30-36 inches...
We ended up with about 6 inches and my SIL's snowblower worked great! We called our son around supper time and he said it looked like at least a couple feet and it was still snowing a little. He lives in Largo and is stationed at Andrews AFB. We haven't had snow like you got since the mid-90s when we got a couple feet. I need to spend the winters someplace warmer like ORLANDO! :lmao:

I can not even imagine what to say. We had half of that and it was to much. Hope you get dug out by spring. I will be in North East, MD in March. If you are not out by then let me know I'll stop by and help.

Seriously take it easy. That is a lot of snow to shovel.

:scared::scared::scared: Holy smokes, Batman! Your whole town is an igloo!! Hope you stay safe and warm any way you can.

Wow! You guys really got blasted:scared1: I'm thinking that we are heading for a Ice Age rather than Global Warming:confused3

I told my wife in mid Oct. that we would have alot of snow this winter, due to the size of the acorns (huge) and they were falling too early, also the leaves were all off the trees early this year. She thought I was crazy, but living in the same area for 40yrs, everytime the acorns were big and fell early we got Alot of snow.

:mic:We might have a couple more major ones it's only the beginning of Feb:sick:

Our driveway is dirt/gravel and is about 100 yards long - our neighbor has a tractor and will hopefully take pity on us, otherwise I figure I'm good for about 20-30 yards per day.

I shoveled the sidewalk and the cars last night and the snow piles are above my head - I can't imagine how long it will take to melt those!

And, most importantly, I was able to get to the dish and clear it off so that we got our signal back and can watch the Super Bowl. :happytv:

I'm the one whose wife is getting her history degree in August and wants to look for a teaching job in Florida - I don't think our families are going to question that move anymore!

When I got my DirecTV installed a few weeks ago, they guy said that if it gets snow built up on it and you lose signal, you can fill a SuperSoaker with warm water and spray it off. Or, when it's warmer out, spray it down with cooking spray or wipe it down with RainX wipes. That will help the snow slide of.

I think they'd question it if you DIDN'T move!

Remember - bend with the knees, not the back. :thumbsup2 And post some pictures if you get the chance!

I follow NASCAR casually, but usually don't take time to watch an entire race. I do support the hometown boy, Matt Kenseth.
A few years back, my MIL and FIL started following NASCAR because a lot of their co-workers were. They all hated Jeff Gordon, so naturally, MIL & FIL became big fans of his, just to tick off their friends!
My wife has a cousin who moved down to the Charlotte area a few years ago hoping to get a job with one of the race teams. Last I heard, he was working for Ray Evernham's shop in the parts area.

At the Monster Jam with DS. If I can't be a Disney, this & the Superbowl is a pretty good family day!

Well, I think the igloo might have to wait. We got 2 feet, and after all that shoveling, I can't lift my arms over my head. :scared: I don't think this is going anywhere for a while, though. Now to fall asleep on the sofa till the Super Bowl starts...

ok two days of shoveling and all is done.Had to shovel out mine,my mother-in-laws and my mothers( and neighbors walks).Still found some time to have lots of fun in the snow.Igloo was tuff, snow was not wet and packable. However I did manage to get one somewhat done.Due to the quality of the snow I needed to downsize from what I wanted to build.Wanted to do a two bedroom but had to settle for a studio instead. However this studio was equiped with fireplace, refrig, and sink will be install tomorrow.Had seven kids in it and they only took up 2\3's of it,probaly hold 10 comfy.Didnt have time to get the "Man Room" logo on it but hopefully that will get done tomorrow also.Went out and sprayed it down with a spray bottle to get it wet so hopefully it will freeze tonight.Pics will be up soon, they will hit FB first and then I will try to pu a couple here.Dont want to clogg up this thread with pics so most will be on FB.Enjoy the game

Nice Carl! I saw the pictures on Facebook. My igloo did not turn out so well. We are going to try again tomorrow and see what happens.

NASCAR...
Mark Martin

Has to be the best, never have won a Championship...he's been sooooo close so many times.

Even though he's driving the wrong cars now I'll still pull for him.

But since NASCAR started that stupid "Chase" sh...cra....stuff...I really don't pay that much attention...nothing is more thrilling than to see if Jimmie Johnson can play it safe to finish in the top 20 to win another Championship.

ok I have now decided to challange myself with a new snow building effort.Instead of doing another igloo I am going to challange myself to see if I can do Cinderella's castle.I may be in over my head.Of course I will need the 12" of new snow they calling for on wed(also needs to be somewhat wet):thumbsup2

That's awesome! That'll be something to see!:banana:

Whew...boy am I tired...

As I mentioned last week, we went to Disney on Ice: Princess Classics on Saturday. And since I really don't feel like doing anything at work today (:surfweb:) I'll post some pics and a mini-review.
Our traveling party was the four of us, plus one of Madison's friends and her parents, who we were meeting at a restaurant in Downtown Milwaukee prior to the show. The hardest part was trying to convey to my kids that that the show was at night. Every few minutes during the day, they would ask if it was time to go yet. Finally, we got them dressed. And what's a Disney related trip if you don't get to dress up?
IMG00053-20100206-1551.jpg

We at Buca di Beppo, which was great because it was so loud in there that no one cared how loud our kids were. :thumbsup2

After dinner we drove the mile or so to the arena. Milwaukee has two big sports arenas - the US Cellular Arena (where we were going) and the Bradley Center (where the Bucks and other big sports teams play). The problem is, they are literally back to back. And with the Bucks playing the Pacers next door, plus all of the Disney on Ice crowd, traffic and parking were a nightmare. But after 20 minutes waiting in line and $15, I was parked in the structure across the street.

Our seats weren't too bad, but getting pictures was pretty difficult. The arena was dark, but each performer had multiple spotlights on them, so a lot of the pictures came out washed out and over exposed. I'll post some of them that were OK

The "stage" before the show.

I thought they did a nice job of using the same castle stage for all of the Princesses. It had just enough themeing, and they were able to change it just enough to make it fit the architecture of any Disney castle.

The show started with Tinkerbell skating around 7 court footmen, each with an icon of a Disney princess (A spinning wheel for Aurora, a lamp for Jasmine, etc). She was joined by Mickey and Minnie, who talked to us for a few minutes about dreams and what not.

Here's Evan enjoying his $10 popcorn. You can see Madison and her friends sharing the $11 cotton candy. They were later joined by sno-cones in a Mickey head cup ($10) and a Cinderella cup ($8). I wish I was making that up.
IMG_7904.JPG

Each Princess was given about 10-15 minutes or so for their portion of the show, performing to 2 or 3 songs from their movie. None of the pictures of Jasmine, Aurora, Ariel or Mulan turned out very well, as I was still fiddling with the settings on the camera. They had a large cast of supporting skaters, and as with all Disney shows, the choreography, lighting, effects, and storytelling was top notch.

Finally, I hit on some decent settings on the camera (shutter priority exposure mode, 1/20 second, f/5.6 on my Canon XTi with 17-55mm kit lens). And yes, that is Sleepy taking a nap on the table.

I was a bit confused at how several of the stories were left. Aurora was sleeping after pricking the spinning wheel, Ariel was carried off stage by Prince Eric after the battle with Ursla, and Snow White was lying in the class coffin. I was beginning the think the theme of the show was "Maybe dreams don't always come true". But they they tied it all together right before intermission. Prince Philip kissed Aurora to wake her up, Snow White's Prince kissed her, Ariel was changed back into a human so she could be with Eric, etc. All of them were joined by Mulan and Captain Li Shang, Belle and her prince (in human form), Jasmine and Aladdin for a big song and dance number to close out the first half.

At intermission, Evan wanted to come with me to the bathroom until he caught site of a "tractor" on the ice. He went back to his seat and I'm told he watched the Zamboni as intensely as he has ever done anything in his life. :rotfl:
The second half opened with none other than our own Goofy, trying to find the castle to deliver a glass slipper to. Tinkerbell showed him the way, and we were set for the entire Cinderella story.

I missed the entire ball room scene because while Evan was intently focused on the Zamboni, he was ignoring the fact that he had to "go". He mentioned this to me as Cinderella is getting her fancy dancin' dress. One good thing though - no lines in the bathroom!

They made a big deal about trying to find the maiden that fit the glass slipper - even going into the audience to try it on a few people!
IMG_7977.JPG

Finally, they found Cinderella and put the glass slipper on her. This part was really cool, as they had a little sparkly boot that snapped around her stake and let her keep skating.

The grand finale was all of the Princesses and their Princes (Including Mickey and Minnie) dressed in special white & gold outfits. Unfortunately, all of the photos of this were drastically over exposed.

So like I said, it was a good show. The kids loved it. The skating was very good. Jasmine almost got her neck snapped when Aladdin did some kind of spin with her, but recovered in time to catch her.

And I'm sure when another of the traveling Disney on Ice shows come to Milwaukee, I'll pack up the family, take out another loan, and enjoy that show too!

Nice job Barry! Glad you decided not to work today :rotfl: ... especially letting us all know how much the concessions were, and that you actually bought them! Don'tcha just love it when the kids don't "go" when they need to or should, :confused3 and then end up having to do so once the show starts back up?!? I've got 3 that have done that at some point in their lives. At least as you said, there was no line when he finally got around to it. But hey, don't give him a hard time, those Zambonis really are cool! I wanted to drive one for a while when I was a kid, every time we'd go ice skating.

Seriously though, sounds like it was a cool show. Hopefully the next time one of those DOI shows comes through Indy I'll take my little girl. Sounds fun. I know she'd get a kick out of it - $32 concenssions and all.

Hey fellow DISDads, I have a question about shoes at WDW. I have flat feet - REALLY flat feet - and have a terrible time finding shoes that are comfortable for a full day of walking. I've been wearing Doc Martens almost exclusively, every day for the past fifteen years or so. I'm concerned that the Docs are going to be unduly heavy (and therefore tiring) for a week of walking around WDW. Any suggestions for alternatives? I've pretty much given up on athletic shoes for anything but wearing to play sports in, as wearing them for an extended period of time causes my non-existant arch to ache.

I don't have any first hand experience with foot problems, but have you ever considered finding a cobbler? (Seriously, they still exist!) My brother has a good friend who is a cobber. My niece was having some foot problems (pigeon toed, etc) that her doctor couldn't do anything about. His friend looked a her feet and watched her walk, etc. He made a custom pair of tennis shoes for her. She walked out of his shop as normal as you or I. I don't know what it would cost (he did it free as a favor to a friend), but it couldn't hurt to do a Google search for cobblers in your area and talk to one.

Nice job Barry!:thumbsup2 Love the pic of Evan eating his popcorn, really captures the moment. At least you have a picture to remind you of how much that thing cost you.:lmao:

Great job on all the igloos, I had intentions of getting out there but we have about 2 inches of snow and its all powder. No new snow this weekend at all.

WOW!! Nate, that must have taken you all weekend.;):lmao:
